Good morning :-)
Ah........the Boys' Brigade hymn. A great sing!
The Collect (special prayer for today) Merciful God, you have prepared for those who love you such good things as pass our understanding: pour into our hearts such love toward you that we, loving you in all things and above all things, may obtain your promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Hello all
Another week of thought provoking posts, many thanks Cynthia. I don't know where you find them.
St Peter, the key holder of our Christian faith, reading him described as being sturdy and steadfast like a rock had me thinking of the Boys Brigade services that we sing in church.... Will Your Anchor Hold, the 2nd verse reads........
We have an anchor that keeps the soul Steadfast and sure while the billows roll Fastened to the Rock which cannot move Grounded firm and deep in the Saviour's love.

The Rock Upon Which the Church Stands
Sturdy and steadfast as the rock he’s named, Peter, the cornerstone, by faith untamed. Against the winds of doubt, he stands resolute, His belief, his strength, none can refute. In the heart of Rome, amid the roar of the crowd, His voice rings clear, strong and loud. On this rock, he lays the Church’s foundation, Spreading the Gospel to every nation.
We give thanks for the life and witness of St. Peter and for all church that are named in his honour. Amen.

The Keys of the Kingdom – given to St. Peter
The Keys of St. Peter have been important in Christian art for ages, symbolizing the authority given to Saint Peter by Jesus. Artists often show him holding two keys, which represent his authority in both Heaven and on Earth.
The way these keys have been depicted in different artworks shows how important they are in Christian symbolism, reminding us of the Church's values and its role in guiding believers.
Lots to see on Google.

The Keys of the Kingdom – given to St. Peter
"I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven”.
Because of Peter's steadfast preaching of the gospel, it is he who will unlock the kingdom's door for those who believe, while concurrently barring entry to non-believers. The Bible teaches what is permitted or forbidden.
So, the keys of the kingdom represent God's endowment to His people, declaring who shall enter the kingdom based on their reaction to the gospel.
Definitely something to think about.

There are keys, and then there are keys!
Whilst keys have been around for a very long time – (the first locks appeared in ancient Babylon and Egypt, some 6 thousand years ago, and were simple wooden devices which used small pins hidden in a small opening near the bolt), the keys that Jesus gave to Peter represent the ministry of authority that Jesus entrusted to him in the service of all the Church.
The key that gives us access to the kingdom of heaven is recognizing that Jesus is the Messiah. The word Messiah means the anointed one who came to redeem the world. When we recognize Jesus is the one anointed to save us from our sins, and put our complete trust in him, then we gain access to the kingdom of heaven. The kingdom of heaven is open to us because Jesus is the key to entering the kingdom of heaven.

You're very welcome Vera :-D
Keys: Peter was given the Keys of the Kingdom – what a responsibility. Many of the keys we are given can be for important reasons.
Church officials have keys to the building and to all sorts of things within those sacred walls. Sometimes they get forgotten or lost.
Most of us have keys for our homes – and how often do we mislay them? We then panic because we are frightened of our homes being broken into – we want to keep intruders out.
However, the keys given to Peter were not to keep people OUT of anywhere but to allow them INTO the Kingdom. Big difference.

What an interesting set of acronyms last week. They were certainly new to me Thank you, as always, Cynthia. I also particularly liked Sunday’s verse as it took me back to my schooldays. I Bind Unto Myself Today was a favourite hymn at our school and regularly sung in morning assembly.

Good morning :-)
On Saturday we celebrated St. Peter’s Day. One of the most famous things about St. Peter is that he was given the ‘keys to the Kingdom of Heaven’.
Keys are used to lock or unlock doors. The specific doors Jesus has in mind in this passage are the doors to the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus is laying the foundation of His church. The disciples will be the leaders of this new institution, and Jesus is giving them the authority to, as it were, open the doors to heaven and invite the world to enter.
My church is dedicated to St. Peter and one of the processional crosses we use is in the form of two crossed keys, we also have a lovely window with a picture depicting St. Peter with keys.
Amazing what one can do with keys. ??

Good evening :-D
Made it by the skin of my teeth! It's been church, baptisms and walking day today, so a pretty hectic schedule. Well worth the effort though. :-D
Collect (special prayer) for today:
O God, the protector of all who trust in you, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: increase and multiply upon us your mercy; that with you as our ruler and guide we may so pass through things temporal that we lose not our hold on things eternal; grant this, heavenly Father, for our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
