I did notice that Coast had a few nice dresses in, straight style but a bit short for me (old knees aren't a good look!) and in plain colours, some of the dresses with a sort of ruffled front, would look nice on the right figure.

One block colour for outfit is easier to team up with shoes bag headwear and jewellery,,,,,,

also try and take your headwear with you as some hats/and things dont look right with the outfit,either swamping or get lost in power of outfit......good luck......and try on what you woulnt normally go for,,,,,you'd be very suprised how on a hanger and on can look......

We have just been into Cheltenham looking for an outfit to wear to grandson's wedding in September. All the shops have sales on and consequently it is like rummaging through a jumble sale or charity shop. So, nothing bought yet. Still got 2 months yet.

Should be a Spectacular Wedding if everyone is the same. :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D ;-)

You could see if there are any dress hire shops in your area, you may find something to suit at a fraction of the price than buying. Also hats, I hired a hat when my son got married rather than add it to my collection of 'never to be worn again' expensive items.

all eyes are on MOB also....I had very misgivings and was,,,,I dont wear this that or the other in everyday life ,but gave it my best shot to look the part and do the bride proud and it was lovely to get good reactions from her & everyone else so worth every penny and effort.

Its only for a few hours.

Think twenty plus years down the line - wear something that won't date badly.

You'll be the second most important woman there so you don't have to concede to anyone, other than the bride.

If your not a hat person don't be pressured into wearing one, I was for sons wedding and hated it, even through dinner I had to keep the damn thing on,
the result was I had wasted money on getting my hair done which was flattened...!!

Your OH sounds like he knows what he's talking about, if he thinks you look good in everything then wear what your comfortable with.

Whatever you do don't panic buy.... you still have time..... take a break have a coffee and a chill out with your sister before you make the purchase.
you can always ask the store to hold an item whilst you look around.
If you have a camera phone take a few snaps whilst shopping and think am I going to be comfortable in this all day. will I be able to stand dance and walk in these shoes, will or would I ever wear this outfit again, If the answer is no then keep looking

It is going to be a long day and you want to enjoy it too :-D

if you dont like hats how about a very small fasanater on the side of your head or if you put your hair up if long hair you can were it at the back

Was going to suggest taking a really good friend for a second and honest opinion. I re read your post and realised you have sister to shop with.

I agree with Wend, whatever you most feel comfortable in.

Having visited a few of your department stores in May, you are blessed with great choice !! You will know 'what' is right I bet, the minute you put it on.

Don't forget to wear your best knickers and bra ;-)

I would say just wear what you feel most comfortable in, Suzanne. If pretty floaty dresses, jacket and a hat are not your style, then don't wear them. A nice pair of soft linen trousers with a funky jacket and something pretty in your hair to match the jacket maybe?

My daughter's getting married on 11th August!
I hate hats, they're usually too big (don't call me pinhead!) :-P
So I've gone for a 'saucer' hat - they're held on with a hairband.
I too usually wear trousers - I even wear cords to work (in various colours), with a smart jacket, so I've opted for a long dress.
I wore a knee length number to my other daughter's wedding, and found, to my embarrassment, that after a few 'fizzies', I ...erm,,,forgot I wasn't wearing trousers :-0

My long dress is a flowery number,mainly shades of red with a semi-casual short jacket in a not exactly dark pink, more a light red!! - that looks lovely with jeans.

I had a problem as the grooms mother and sister are wearing turquoise, a colour I can't stand.

I can also wear flat shoes with the dress, and wear it with a shrug for more casual times.

I found that I've never since worn the dress or heeled shoes I bought for my other daughters wedding - a waste of money in my opinion.

thanks everyone for your ideas,its scarry, when your not a clothes horse,i really have no idea,hubby said i would look good in a plastic bin bag,but weve been together since we were 16,so he would say that. :-D

shoes and bag must match........and compliment the outfit,,,,,,, hat must match the outfit.....,,,,,,maybe stick to more neutral tones and go striking with a hat,

and any jewellery /beads or stuff same colour as the hat,,,,,,,

I didnt want a hat but am glad I had one as the photos say .I'm Mum of the Bride and not a guest in a silly little facinator on a schoolgirl headband which all the guests seemed to wear

And I got many compliments and didnt take the hat off till a change for the evening....loved it....

Google 'Mother of the bride suits' and look at images,might give some ideas.

A few peeps I know whose dau's have got married recently have worn 'Fascinators' not hats, looked very elegant and fashionable especially if you are not a 'hat person'...I'm not for myself !

Ask in store for help of a personal shopper too,

omg no hat,ive got a little headband and thats as far as its going for headwear,the headbant looks nice with my hairsyyle for the day.
only problem is the outfit ,shoes and bag.
