Suzanne, I don't know what your budget is but if it stretches to John Lewis/Debenhams have you considered a personal shopper? They could probably come up with some really good outfits that you may not have considered.

Went in every shop in M Keynes yesterday and still nothing in the dress line. Relying on Plymouth next weekend now.

Try looking at the online M&S, John Lewis, Debenhams etc. you may get some ideas from there.

Daughter got married in Dec. 2011 and I didn't wear hat (I look really terrible in one and daughter didn't mind). Just wear something you feel comfortable in, ask daughter what her thoughts are regarding head wear.
You may be happily suprised.

What ever you decided will be fine but most of all enjoy the day and best wishes to your daughter and future SiL.

If your not very tall you can wear floaty dresses and skirts......just dont by any thats full but tapered and always wear a top that dont finish at the waist with skirts .....one colour is always slimming and gives appearence of adding a few inches in height .

dont go too bold with a pattern or it will swamp.

I think we all have mental images of folk on here that are probably way off the mark in most cases. I thought you were tall, dark and handsome until I met you Island :-D :-D :-D

Ann, I have the same problem, and I am only 5ft. Saw some lovely dresses in M & S the other week, lovely and floaty, and was tempted, but knew it would be wasting my money.

I love long floaty skirts but being only 5ft2+ they make me look a bit squat, and being overweight (16) doesn't help the image either. I always always wanted to be 2-3 inches taller.

Practically no-one wears hats to weddings here .................... so don't be pressured into wearing one, or a fascinator if it is not "you"

Buy something that you are comfortable in, and that you WILL wear again.

Try to match your shoes and bag in color ...... as we were taught to do back in the 50s and 60s :-D

My daughter got married just over 13 years ago.

I do wear skirts and rarely wear trousers in summer ............... and I love long skirts. I don't think I have a skirt shorter than mid calf in my closet at the moment.

For daughter's wedding I found a skirt and top, in a turquoisy/sea-foamy colour, skirt was just the right length for me ........... and it was perfectly wearable for other events.

PLUS .............. it was washable, and didn't crease!

Unfortunately .............. I then put on weight, and so the thing is hanging in the storage closet downstairs :-D

Instead of Chester, have you been to Cheshire Oaks outlet?

I bought a Country Casuals jacket for D's wedding, but couldn't face the long floaty floral dresses, so pulled a shorter shift style from the back of the wardrobe that I hadn't worn for a long time. Fascinator was neutral so I added a ribbon to match the jacket. Shoes from M&S, and friend loaned me a matching bag.
