Olympic torch

Last week the Olympic torch "procession" halted here overnight (well, not here as in my home, that would have been too much). I love the Olympics but am frustrated by the total and blatant misappropriation of funding. For example, take an aerial photograph and you can track the route because you only have to look for the roads/streets that have been resurfaced. And then, because it stopped at the park opposite me, the council "tarted" the place up, to the extent of putting up huge hoardings to cover the sadly dilapidated yet once beautiful Victorian buildings including a fabulous pavilion. Once the torch left everything was torn back down. And there is still much discarded yet related litter left. Forgive me if my memory is failing but did we not criticise China for doing similar such things in Beijing?
