Hi Everybody,
Can anyone help me find out about my ancestor Joseph Van Studa?
He was a soilder when he married in 1782 but I have no idea how to find out anything about his military career and with his name being Dutch there are many different spellings such as vanstuder, vanstuda, van studer or sometime the van is missed out and it is just studer or struder. I know he was born in England, probably in the Hampshire area and his family came to England with William of Orange when he transported his army to England to become king. We know he comes from a family who were soilders and naval men but have no idea what records to look for.
I have tried Ancestry and Find My Past, any suggestions would be really helpful, I am going to Kew soon to the National Archives so if anyone knows what I should look for I would be really greatful.
Thank you.
Claire
