Palliative care (from Latin palliare, to cloak) is any form of medical care or treatment that concentrates on reducing the severity of disease symptoms, rather than striving to halt, delay, or reverse progression of the disease itself or provide a cure. The goal is to prevent and relieve suffering and to improve quality of life for people facing serious, complex illness. Non-hospice palliative care is not dependent on prognosis and is offered in conjunction with curative and all other appropriate forms of medical treatment

things didnt go well today, didnt realise how low dad had got because he has been lay in bed for so long he was very unsteady on his feet, anyway doctor wants to biopsy the abcess , rearange his tubes and start chemo next week providing abcess lump has gone so they will probably put a drip up of antibiotics to speed things up, and they are going to get help with the pallative nurse team, not sure what that is yet going to look it up , mum is breaking down all the time so im hoping the nurses will support her too , mum did not want to know the prognosis .

i phoned the surgeons secretary today and explained my concerns and that Sdad is just lay in bed 24/7 and the this new growth in his leg is preventing him from standing on it so thanfully he is going to see him tomorrow , really hope they sort this latest setback out , hope everyone is ok xxxxx

ladylol Report 31 Aug 2010 19:52

Sdad had tubes out and got an infection the day after which has left him with a ulcer and infection so chemo is postponed for another 3 weeks i understand the reason for postponing but surely the longer he waits the more the cancer will spread .

Puss, good luck to you S dad for the chemo. Hope everything goes well.

Jean, I did read an article that it is advisable to have blood test first to make sure levels are ok and that it is a good idea to get a course of antibiotics to have before/after having it done.

Wondering if anyone else has had a tattoo done whilst they were having treatment and what was their experiences?

Please accept my condolences, Wendy.

Lorraine, I think that he will be susceptible to viruses and infections unfortunately at present. Best wishes to him for the chemo.

Annie, I would content myself with a transfer if I were you. Getting needles stuck in you unnecessarily is quite a risk. In your state you will be open to infection, much more so than the ordinary punter.

I want to get a new tattoo. The one I have I got before I got Leukaemia, now I fancy getting another one. Would I be able to do this given the condition I have and the medication I am on? Forgot to check with my specialist when I last saw him.

A shame , Polly, but she is better off where she is now than struggling with brain cancer. My sympathy to the family.
