Mel Fairy Godmother Report 13 Oct 2023 13:08

You did make me laugh Vera :-D :-D :-D

Its still 17 here and we have had sunny spells and rain showers which the pc says is going to get heavier.

Not heard a thing yet from the waterboard they have probably forgotten all about me. Its such a nuisance as the I have just cleaned the sink and it took ages to rinse it. Done lots of washing up and some of the things on the room divider and lots of little trays.

This is Mel signing off from the tomato too. :-D :-D :-D

SuffolkVera Report 13 Oct 2023 12:32

Good day from your totally barmy friend

I think the fact that it is Friday the 13th has addled my brain. I keep doing the silliest things today. The final straw was just now when I announced to OH that I had had enough of doing stupid things so I was going to go on the tomato for a while!! He looked at me as though I was mad (which I clearly am) and then we both burst out laughing. I think the computer will be forever known as the tomato now :-D

I'm sorry you're having such bad nights at the moment AnnG. You have my sympathy. Have you got anything on your mind that you're concerned about or are you like me, comfortable, warm, no worries, but sleep won't come? I hope you have some good nights from now on.

This morning I showered and then decided to give the drain a bit of a clean. It was a bit mucky and greasy with plenty of hair down deep so it was on with the rubber gloves and out with brushes, soda, boiling water etc. It took longer than I expected but it's much cleaner now. I think it's a while since I did it and I felt a bit ashamed of the state it was in. Memo to self: must do it more often.

I hope the water people can sort out your low pressure Mel.

No car yet :-| OH rings every evening now to chivvy them up. Last night they said it could be ready today but we're not holding our breath. It will probably be Monday. A one man business tends to do one car at a time but this is a big concern with lots of cars going through so they operate a sort of queueing system.. So for instance when the car is at the spraying stage it goes in a queue behind everything else waiting to be sprayed, then when it gets to polishing it joins the queue at the polish shop and so on. I think the poor car has spent more time in a queue than actually being worked on.

We had a lot of rain overnight and today is just grey and miserable and very windy. It's not cold but the wind is making it feel a bit cool. Not sure how warm it is as the computer is telling me it's 18 degrees and the iPad is saying 21.

I've got a couple of emails to send so I had better get on with that and by then OH will have lunch ready.. This is SuffolkVera signing off from the tomato. Bye for now.

Showing 17 now but the sun is out sometimes and when it is it feels really warm outside. I just walked down with some books for Irene.

Morning all,

Sorry you have had another bad night Anng perhaps your body is getting ready for the hour difference at the end of this month.

Iv'e made my coffee too hot what a nuisance.....

My arm is not too bad tis morning but my left one I hd the jab for shingles in is hurting nd feels hot to the touch. It hurt when the nurse did it but the other, covid and flu went of after a day.

Its 17 degrees here and they forcast rain for most of the day. Pc says cloudy. The water man should be coming today to see why I have no pressure in my cold tap. The strange thing is when I first turn it on it rushes oiut for a second and then dribbles like an old man.

AnninGlos Report 13 Oct 2023 08:00

Good morning all. 18 degrees here and very grey and drizzly. Probably an indoor day then. I seem to have developed a very strange sleeping pattern of one or two hours sleep and the same awake. Wish I could revert again to more or less sleeping normally for a few hours at a time. Seems to have been a change this past week. :-|

AnninGlos Report 12 Oct 2023 13:05

Sounds like you need a rest today Vera so good to not do anything physical. Again for the 3rd night in a row I didn't sleep well, kept waking and then dozing. Don't feel too bad today and all ready for the group. Not many today as half of them are unable to be here for various reasons. No plans or agenda Vera, it is very free running. That doesn't mean we have a lot of unfilled silence. We don't Always somebody with a problem or idea.

Boiler was serviced this morning and passed with flying colours. Apparently my emissions are wonderful :-D It has done very well so far, must be over 20 years old now. Worth £75 for peace of mind.

SuffolkVera Report 12 Oct 2023 12:36

It's been raining heavily with just a few short breaks since yesterday evening and is only 13 degrees which is a bit of a shock after the 23 degrees of a couple of days ago. We haven't had to put the heating on yet but I don't think it will be long. As I've said before, once our heating goes on in the autumn it stays on till next spring. I'm hoping we can put off switching the underfloor heating on till we come back from our couple of days in Yorkshire. We have a couple of electric fan heaters which we can use if we just want a bit of a boost in the evening.

I'm having an easy day today as I feel a bit like a zombie. We both worked hard yesterday and went to bed tired out but I couldn't sleep. I turned the light out at 12.30 and was awake at 2.00 am. At 5.15 I got up, made a cup of tea and read a book till 6.45. Then I dozed till 8 am. I can't seem to get my head in gear today.

Yesterday I did all the ironing, made soup for lunch and 2 lots for the freezer, did a lot of odd job, sorted out the outside freezer so I knew what was there and could find things and cooked a big evening dinner. OH hoovered right through for me and took off all the remaining green tomatoes as they won't ripen outside now. I had 5 plants in medium size pots outside and they have done really well this year.

Thanks for the recipe Mandy. I think, like AnnG, they would be too sweet for our taste but I shall keep the recipe as they might be useful to take to the next family party. I'm sure lots of the youngsters would enjoy them. I hope Jake settles down in his job. I am sure he will. They sound a friendly bunch and they will expect him to be a bit slow to start with. We all take time to get up to speed in a new job. It might have been better if he could have worked a full week to start with to give him time to get into the swing of things before having a day off. I wish him well.

Mel, I hope you are not so achy today. Stick with the exercises if you can. They will probably help keep the joints and muscles a bit flexible.

I hope your garden group goes well this afternoon AnnG. Do you have a programme of things to talk about?

I'm going to spend this afternoon having a general tidy up on the computer. I'm sure there are files that can be deleted now and I want to back up my family history trees as I have changed a couple of entries and added a couple of bits. I've had Family Historian for years and I was so pleased I had a proper backup when we were having some work done on the computer and the chap asked what had to be kept. OH told him about most stuff but forgot my Family Historian programme and it was removed. I had to reload the programme which I could do foc as I still had the original code and then I could restore all the information from my backup.

I think it's stopped raining at last. No doubt it will start again soon :-(

Morning girls,

Dull and sreary here but it is 15 degrees so dos'nt feel cld out as there is'nt any breeze yet. It absolutely chucked it down last night and everything is very wet today out there.

There are two deer laying against the box hedge resting.

Injection arm is achey this mroning but other one is not too bad yet.

I am hoping I have a day to myself today and not have any callers like BIL as I need toget some jobs done. I did the ironing yesterday spo thats out of the way now I need a good tidy up and dust.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 12 Oct 2023 08:41

good morning all 10 degrees now, quite a drop from the 17 it was this time yesterday.

Mandy thanks for the recipe but I think on reflection, too much sugar in it for me. I am watching my sugar intake to avoid diabetes.

Boiler check this morning so hope all is well with that, then garden interests meeting this afternoon here. Only 8 of us expected today. dull and looks like rain here at the moment.

better get dressed but I have cleared the clothes out of the airing cupboard, must have been two weeks worth of washing in there. :-D

Yes Anng he is a nice friendly chap who owns it ,Jake said they are all friendly .
The Cookies went down a treat with the children but I thought they were very sweet ,I'll copy out the recipe as you'll never read my scribbles where I copied it out .

1/2 cup Unsalted butter
1/3 cup Cocoa Powder
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 cups castor sugar
1/3 cup brown sugar, light or dark
3 cups porridge oats
2/3 cup peanut butter
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt

Line 2 or 3 trays with baking parchment
In a saucepan put both sugars, butter,Cocoa powder and milk stir and get a good boil for 1 minute exactly, take off the heat .
Then add 2 cups of the oats ,peanut butter ,vanilla extract and salt stir well then add the rest of the oats .
Spoon out into cookie size blobs and leave to set for 20 -30 minutes.
It should make 24 but I made mine a bit more heaped up so it made 18

I think it might be nice to leave a few oats out and add fruit or nuts .
I think if made them again I wouldn't add as much Cocoa powder as they were very chocolatey.

No Mel Jakes not serving in the shop yet he's been making sausages and burgers ,making tea and cleaning ,they did say they would train him up for the till .

My back has been very twingy today I think its all the bending down doing the pots and baskets the last few days so I think I'll have an easier day tomorrow.

We've had light rain since lunch time .

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 11 Oct 2023 18:18

Its just been tipping it down here. It started raining when I went to corn the big girls and when I got beck indoors it poured.

I have done a little casting over the last couple of days but the plaster has gone off and things are not coming out of the moulds but crumbling. I must have left the lid on the pot open a bit and the damps got in. I have another tub on order but it dos'nt come till Friday.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 11 Oct 2023 16:50

Poor lad I hope he has a better day today Mandy. It will take a little while to learn the ropes. What is he doing in the shop? Serving customs or running around after everyone else and making the tea? He has to get to know the other in the hsop too so it will take a little time to settle in.

Rang the waterboard this morning and they are going to send someone down on Friday to see what has happened with my low water pressure.

I think thats the last lot of needles for me now but she said I could up the codine patch a bit and she showed me some exercizes to do each day.

AnninGlos Report 11 Oct 2023 12:21

Ah, bless him Mandy we have all had those wobbles after first days at work. Is the shop manager a nice person do you know? Maybe he or she came over as a bit brusque if there were a lot of customers. Hopefully they will be kind to a new trainee, Good luck to him.

I know how Max feels, a bit like us with the covid test up your nose.

You have not said if the no cook cookies were a success. If they were can we have the recipe please.

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 11 Oct 2023 12:07

Morning all,

We've had a little light drizzle first thing but it's still very muggy here .
We took Max to the vets for his yearly jab and she had a look at his joints as he seems a bit stiff in one leg at times ,she thinks it's a bit of arthritis.
No way would he have the kennel cough up his nose so we left it and if he does need to go to kennels then he'll have to go in and have it .

Jake enjoyed his first day at work he had yesterday off and back in today, son said he was in tears last night saying he didn't know if he could do it he didn't want to let them down by being a bit slow but he went OK today so it was a bit of a wobble ,I don't think it helped having yesterday off ,son sat him down and said everyone has to learn and they would understand if he was slower then the others ,he takes everything to heart thats the trouble.

Glad you have your leak sorted Mel ,hope your needles are not so painful today .

Oh got soup cooking so better just check on it .

Morning girls,

Bit dull and grey here this morning and we had fine rain last night. The temp is 16 degrees and pc says cloudy so I don't think there will be any sun today but it may brighten a bit later on.

Docs this afternoon for shingles jab and needles and I must do some ironing and HW.

So that my exciting day. I had two subs with my shopping one was a lemon loaf cake and not the lemon drizzle one |I ordered and the other was Asda chicken and veg pies instead of Birdeye ones with shortcrust pastry so they both went back as I am not keen on puff pastry.

Have to ring the waterboard now and tell them I don't have much pressure and had to run the tap a long while yesterday after the boys had gone because the water was coming out dirty.

AnninGlos Report 11 Oct 2023 08:25

Good morning all, another night i didn't sleep well and really don't know why. It is a long time since I had two in a row like that. feel very weary this morning. It is 17 degrees now and drizzling with rain so looks like the end of our second little summer. H/W for me as i have the garden interests group here tomorrow. Not that it is dirty or untidy but must make an effort. Might do some card making then.

SuffolkVera Report 11 Oct 2023 07:51

Good morning

It’s a bit dull and cloudy but it looks as though it is going to be another warm day. Rain’s on the way for this evening and through the night.

It’s good that your leak has been sorted Mel. As AnnG says, it might be an idea to get your washing machine looked at. All this grit could be doing some damage. You are lucky to be getting acupuncture on the NHS. It was quite a while ago that I had it but I had to arrange it privately and pay myself, even though my doctor agreed it was worth trying.

I haven’t got any plans for today. I’ll probably do boring old h/w and ironing, maybe a bit of gardening. Hope you all have something nice planned for the day.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 10 Oct 2023 19:48

Best to get it looked at Mel, all that grit may be doing further damage.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 10 Oct 2023 19:18

I agree with you about the bonus of the fine weather we have had over the last few days.

Well I am now leak free. The chap took the meter reading for me and I have mislaid it at the mo but when I went to fill the water jug up, which I do by filling a plastic jug the water came out really dirty and muddy and there was lots of air coming out too. I had to run the tap for a good 20 minuits before it cleared so that has now gone on my meter ready. Why did'nt the fella tell me to do that before he read the meter?

I have the docs again tomorrow for needles and my shingles jab so at least that will save me one trip.

I too need to do some ironing as I seem to have piles of it now and there's more to put in the machine but I can't faff around having to empty it out every time I wash. May have to spend more money to that seen to. Will it ever end?

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 10 Oct 2023 15:45

Once the mist lifted it has been another lovely day here 18 degrees so not as warm as yesterday and a strong warm breeze. I have done a couple of little jobs in the garden but don't feel up to doing much today. I didn't sleep well and feel really tired and 'out of sorts'. Anyway I have cut back a lot of honeysuckle coming over from Cynths that she can't reach, It was tangling with a rose of mine so I cut all of it ver my side back. she doesn't mind. It is still flowering and smells beautiful but was just a nuisance. I have also pulled out the perenial climbing sweet peas that had got entwined with a clematis. And I have changed the bed and washed the bedding and made a new baby card. But that is all I have done, compared to the last three days it is not much. Still the bin is really full now and the garden looks tidy so not too bothered at not doing any more.

shame the weather is going to revert back to normal, these last few days have been lovely a real bonus.
