Hi Allan. In my day, boy friends were something which had to be kept secret and not talked about. We knew nothing about our teachers because they were never appointed to a school anywhere near where they lived so that their private lives were kept private. These days, they not only live close to the school, but their children attend - even their own classes.

"Oh, what a tangled web we weave,
When first we practice to deceive!"

Nuff said. This is really drifitng off into the realms of the ridiculous. I think that the writers just drag up every impossible, and implausible, situation they can picture.

Summer Bay, together with Midsomer Norton, is on my list of places never to visit.

Barbra Report 14 Mar 2012 22:12

Its only a soap prog not real
I think Alf will marry Irene & they will buy coffee shop of leah .who will leave with Brax the caravan park will be demolished so they can build a big suppermarket so there will be food shop & garage .were else do folks get there petrol .or have i missed something :-S

Allan

Allan Report 14 Mar 2012 22:22

Barbra, you may be correct.

However, cars are only used in Summer Bay for:

1) taking people to lonely places where the car breaksdown. Usually when there is a mad/jealous/prisoner on the run (take your pick)

2) For leaving town at speed (and who wouldn't) only to (a) Crash into the nearest tree or (b) to be pulled over by the cops, usually when you have promised your boyfriend/girlfriend that you will dispose of the 20 kg. bag of heroin they have hidden in the boot.

Cars are not actually used for the purpose of going from A to B but merely as transport to the nearest disaster.

If that happens, Barbra, I hope the caravan park will be pulled into shape with the vans parked in neat rows as they are in other parks - not higgledy-piggledy as theirs are. I notice the vans go right up to butt onto the bushland. That's a no-no, for starters. There needs to be a big, big space in order to avoid bushfires.
However, these writers have probably never stayed in a caravan park in their lives. If they had, they would know that there is always an 'office', even if it is part of the proprietor's home. Regulars and visitors alike have to 'check-in' and those paying fees need to have receipts. In H&A, people walk in the door and look straight at the dinner-table!

There must be shopping facilities nearby because I have seen them bringing in milk, fruit juice and celery - often. As for petrol - a minor detail, not worth mentioning. How else do Sid's family get back and forth to the farm? I've often wondered how far from the beach that is supposed to be. I get the impression that it is miles away as it looks to be well out in 'no-man's land'.

Barbra, Irene has started singing. Would really send Alf around the twist, can't see them getting together in the near future. I'm just about to press the mute button every time she belts out another tune. :-0 :-0

Where do they bank the van fees and when. I never hear anyone saying "I'm going to do the banking".

Berona

Berona Report 15 Mar 2012 06:31

Where do you think they get the money from for the milk, juice and celery???

Probably no bank near the place, but a post office with a bank agency in it.
Come to think of it - has anyone ever seen a postman? They always seem to pay cash too, so no credit cards seem to be used - not even in the restaurant.

Aren't we a cynical lot?? lol.

saw an episode of Home and Away today from 1990. Alf had hair, Marilyn was in year 12, whether as a mature student I don't know!

Judy Nunn was in it, and part of the action took place in a SHOP!

I may have to watch more episodes. It was on one of our "Free to Air" digital channels, all of which repeat programmes such as the benny Hill Show, On the Buses etc.

Now is that quality, or what??

Berona Report 15 Mar 2012 22:51

Oh dear. Now Allan has found the 1990 version too.

Allan - I record that one. I couldn't bear to sit and watch it properly. It is shown five mornings weekly, then all five repeated again at the weekend.
I record it so that I can skim through it to see if any current actors were in it then. Yes, Danni Minogue, Judy Nunn and Julian McMahon are in that one but not in H&A these days.

Marilyn works for Alf in a general store and has decided to go back to school to finish what she didn't do at an earlier age.

Hi all.
I've seen bits here and there.
What i have noticed though in h&a and neighbours,Not one person can dance, they are never in time to the music.
Maybe they are told to dance, then the music is added later, well thats what it look like.

I'll see if I can catch an episode of Neighbours and have a look for you Barbra.

As for dancing - they don't dance these days, like they used to - and yet, they enjoy watching Dancing With the Stars, where real ballroom dancing is displayed.

I went to a 50th birthday and the younger ones controlled the music - blaring out loud while everybody sat around in different groups and talked. Nobody thought of dancing until one of the 'middle aged' ones sneaked a 40's swing band record on - and all the over 50's got up and danced - jiving to their hearts' content.......while the young ones sat and stared at them! They not only couldn't dance that way - they had no inclination to get up off their chairs. What's wrong the with young ones of to-day?
