Irene has always been there since I began watching, although she is not in the 1990 episodes which are being shown on 7-2 in the mornings. Haven't seen Colleen for quite a long time. She was in the 1989 episodes but haven't seen her in the 1990 version.
Marilyn is the main star of the 1990 episodes. Just as dizzy as ever with that high-pitched voice and high heels (but her waistline is only half what it is now).
I don't think I would like to see myself in old episodes once I had lost my 'youth'.

Hi all.

Barbara it starts on 3rd Sept.
I hope they we get a flash back of what was going on brfore it stopped as I've lost track lol.

Berons/Kim..Irene had a change of actress if i remeber rightly.
I like Marilyns voice...dizzy as she is.

Berona

Berona Report 25 Aug 2012 01:11

I can't say I like Marilyn's voice, Marion. Although I don't dislike it either. It's just that most people's voices get a little deeper as time passes and hers seems like she is working on keeping it at the higher (younger) pitch.
Well, she got her way and will be happy now. Won't say any more about that.

I understand you wanting a re-cap of the ending. I can't ever remember what happened last night, let alone a few weeks ago!

Kim - once again, I noticed green grass all around - no sign of other graves.

MEgirl Report 25 Aug 2012 11:58

Not long to go then Marion, you have a much shorter break than we do. Yes the first actress to play Irene was a very nasty piece and always sloshed and hitting the kids. Irene was a blonde way back when. She has gone through quite a few hair colour changes in her time.

It was looking like a cemetery as they walked up Berona; I could see some plaques in the ground. The old sod wouldn't be appreciating his send off anyway. Marilyn was done up like a dinner. How can she afford to have all these clothes??? Can't be raking in the money from her hairdressing surely and her shifts at the diner.

Berona Report 26 Aug 2012 00:25

How long have you been watching it, Kim? I only came into it when the main man of the time had three daughters. I began watching daily when the youngest daughter left the nest. I think in reality, she left the show to persue her singing career. (Tamsin?).

Earlier, I was too busy watching Neighbours and E-Street. Of course, I didn't have much say in those days when the family were all still living at home. Goodness! that makes me realise just how long I HAVE been watching!.

The 1990 version, shown daily in the mornings, is up to Pippa beginning to take notice of a new man about six months after Tom died. We had a change in Pippa - without any warning. One day, she was there, the next day I asked myself "who's this" and it was the new Pippa. No explanation. She just went on talking the way she did 'yesterday' but was a totally different person - much taller for one thing.

p.s. Yes. Looked up Wikipeda and found that the Irene we know has been there from 1993. In 91/92 it was another actress. I only watch it to see if I know the actors so will look out for Irene when the morning screening moves to 1991.

MEgirl Report 26 Aug 2012 08:09

Berona it started in 1988 I believe and I started watching it late 1989, so I'd missed a bit. Honestly can't remember much of it, but I do remember Tom dying. Sometimes I would miss nights if I was working or shopping. I only saw the first Pippa for a little while and as you said, she was gone. I think I preferred her best.

The first Irene was a real rough head; this current one is a little softer, especially after being off the drink for so long. Her house like the one at the caravan park has revolving doors, so many people there and gone. How many bedrooms are they supposed to have??

I have never watched Neighbours and only saw a few episodes of E-Street. Marcus Graham was in that (Harvey) I think.

I did a few years of 'respite care'. That is, I took a child from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening, each four weeks - to give the child and his carer a break from each other.
In order for me to do this, both my son and I were interviewed together, then separately. We had to produce references and give the name of our doctor. A police check was also done on both of us. ... to explain, by then, he was the only other occupant of the house, and although it wasn't his idea to do this, he did support me and helped out, particularly with regard to spending time with the boy and showing him how to do things. We then had to do a six weeks course on child care. Once the visits began, I still received visits from his Case Worker, from time to time. They need to keep an eye on everyone who has anything to do with the child.

I do know that DOCS and their agencies are flexible as far as placement of the children is concerned - but when I see what Irene does and says, I cringe at the thought of the lack of research for this programme. She's a recovering alcoholic FGS!! That should be enough - but she decides who can come and go wiithout consulting with anyone! .

Hi Ladies...and anyone else looking in lol.

About Irene yes she manages to get in all sorts of kids under her wing.
Didnt she have a baby for her daughter? What happened with that story?
I remember Pippa changing over night too.Come to think of it didnt her husband tom?? change to.

Berona

Berona Report 29 Aug 2012 00:16

Goodness me! You must all have been watching since long before I started.

I picked up on the re-run a few months ago, and it was still on the '89 season, so I suppose they had started from the beginning ('88). Now well into the '90 season, I might watch it a little more carefully to see if I can pick up on anything. I have only been interested in the actors and how they have changed before now.

Can't answer you about Tom. I only began watching when he was recovering from an illness and he died soon after I began watching. I record it and watch a couple of episodes at the same time - fast forwarding quite a lot. The plots are so similar to what they are now, so maybe the writers are watching the old version too! Danni Minogue seems to have disappeared from it No new ones recognisable as yet.

Marion - are you thinking of Leah having the baby for Sally? or did they use the same story twice?

MarionfromScotland Report 29 Aug 2012 07:34

Hi All.
Just a quick hello to all.

You had me thinking Berona, yes she did have a baby for daughter Fin,just found this.

It could only happen in H&A lol
Will have a good look later.

Berona Report 29 Aug 2012 08:26

Marion - I had a look at that link. Wow! How can so much happen in one woman's life? No wonder the series has been going for so long! For all that to happen in one person's lifetime, it's enough to write a book about on it's own!

So they did use the same story twice. I'm sure Leah had the little baby girl for Sally. Correct me if I'm wrong. Haven't got around to reading their life stories yet - took me long enough to read about Irene!

Berona Report 30 Aug 2012 03:00

Kim - ;just had to come in and tell you that in to-day's episode of the 1990 H&A, there was a brief appearance of a police sergeant and I noticed on the credits that the role was played by John Meillon, Jnr. Is that a relative of yours?

MEgirl

MEgirl Report 31 Aug 2012 12:32

John Meillon is related to us and that is his son. The first John Meillon married my gg.aunt. back in 1864. Father and son were both good actors and my dad looked very much like John Snr. They used to drink together along with my uncle at a pub at North Sydney and they never knew they were related. I managed to trace the connection with my tree. It is a small world really. Thanks for mentioning that Berona - John Jnr. was also in episodes of ACP too with his mother June Salter - Matron Arrowsmith. :-) :-)

Berona

Berona Report 1 Sep 2012 01:49

I thought I saw most of ACP episodes, but don't remember seeing June Salter. I know she was an actress, but remember her best for her quick wit in Graham Kennedy's panel show. I only remember the big lady matron in ACP ... but even that is stretching my poor old memory quite a lot. These days, I find it hard to remember what I had for breakfast!

So Brax has 'cooled it' with the solicitor. I wonder how she felt when she walked in on him nursing Bianca's baby?
Earlier, firstly Bianca waved the baby's bottle around his nose, but never put it in his mouth - and wondered why he was crying! Then, she walked out and Heath followed her. They both walked down to the beach and left the baby crying! With only Darryl to do anything about it, he picked him up and nursed him to sleep....which is how the parents found him when they returned. What kind of parents are they?
Then, they took the baby to bed with them and had him in between them. It wouldn't be surprising if they found him squashed in the morning!

Well????? Come on, Marion - we are waiting.

Where is it up to?

MEgirl

MEgirl Report 4 Sep 2012 06:53

Berona you will have to Google Matron Hilda Arrowsmith, she would often fill in if Maggie (the large one) was on holiday. There was a lot of rivalry between the two, esp. when it came to lawn bowls.

That's a big baby for one born so early; he looks very healthy. Bianca needs to calm down or the child will be as neurotic as his mum.

Poor Casey never seems to get a break. How can one family have so many dramas???

Marion from what I've found acting goes way back to my First Fleeter in the early days of Sydney Town, there was a bit of talent all the way through. Must have ended with me, lol. :-D ;-)

Romeo and Indi - there's a push/pull relationship. Who knows where that one will end. Good that you are all back watching again, not too far behind us now.
