Caring for original old records

I wonder if anyone can give me some practical advice on how to care for original old family records. I have a few which go back to the mid 1880s and they are easy to read but because they were folded for many years before I had them they have fallen into a state of disrepair.

I also have some old photos and some of my grandfathers Army records. He was born a little over a hundred years ago.

I live in Spain where the weather is either very hot and dry or damp and misty.

I will be going to the UK again at the end of this month or beginning of October so could bring them with me.

Many thanks

Bridget
