I recall seeing a brown metal plaque about the size of a teaplate. It was in memory of someone who had died in WW1 & I was told it was the widow's shilling.

Doesn't quite make sense that he died in WW1 as if it's in memory of who I think it is he would be too old to fight in that war - unless it was the son of the person I thought it was, but in that case I dont see why it would be in posession of the person who had it! (I assumed she was the daughter of the person on the memorial!)
Does this make sense? I've searched for her birth & cant find it, she married my greta uncle & she died of appendicitis in the 1930's!
