I also had the Genes one, but as it was telling me how to start my family tree !!! I deleted it. :-)

Pretty sure it was genuine though.

The current hot scam is that you get an e-mail notifying you that you have been cited on the trace track scheme and need to pay for the test, card details please. The scam comes with the genuine phone number which does not take incoming calls anyway.

Roger

You've added to a thread that is 11 years old so not the best place to post.

However I also got the "Checking in with you" email a week ago and it seems to be genuine to me.

Sad isn't it that there are people ready to take advantage of a bad situation. I think it is pretty certain that these days nobody would ask for all those details by post, phone or e mail.

Yesterday I received an email supposedly from the Tax Office telling me I was due a tax rebate of £280 and to fill in the attached form and email it back. The telephone number was the same as the one on the genuine Working Tax Credits form, BUT the form asks for all personnal information such as name, address, phone number, CREDIT CARD DETAILS, and asks you to fill in the amount of rebate you are due. (Supposedly so they can debit that much from your credit card.)

Both me and OH were almost taken in by this but couldnt understand why they actually wanted credit card details, and then I heard in on the radio in the afternoon that the presenter of a show on Radio 2 had also had the same email, (different amount) and she had phoned trading standards to find out that it was a definite scam.

So just to warn everyone of the present scam which is going around and not to be taken in. When people are short of money at this present time, thats what they are taking advantage of and it can be so tempting.

DONT BE FOOLED
