I won't expect you to do a rain dance on the cruise Berona.

There are so many things that are not Politically Correct now, but I think that was recently discussed on another thread.

I only get around to that after you Brits go to bed and things go quiet on here. Sleep well, Tec - and Mrs.Tec too!

I has rained here too. (well, sort of). Last night and this morning, we have had rain - but I have to look out and stare hard to see it - it's so light - and I have only heard it on the roof for a couple of minutes last night. In other words - I will still have to water the plants!

Well, having been dancing in the dark, I'm now exhausted - so I'm going to bed.

This business of not taking photographs when children might be in the vicinity ... I also think it's nonsense. I used to do it with the children of friends.Not any more.
Now that I am of grandfather age, I do smile at children. When their parent is present. My OH says things like, "isn't she/he lovely/cute" and I have to warn her that I could get arrested for that.

This is not the forum for raising the issue, but children are far, far less at risk from strangers than they are from big brothers, fathers, uncles and grandfathers. And from people in authority such as teachers, ministers, scout leaders. These are not strangers as far as children are concerned.

It's overcast again here, but I know it won't rain (do I sound like Hanrahan - we'll all be rooned?)!!

Have you been for your daily drive yet Berona? I know you said you take the car out to give it a run, but I reckon you go out and do screechies!!! Vroom vroom!

That age of innocence is long gone hasn't it? Children are so much more sophisticated now. I remember when I was a child I had a pram base as a toy. I used to push it around for hours and my dad made a stick thing on a screw thing as a gearstick for me. I called it my "fastee brum brum". I still have it - can't bear to part with it. Now, the kids play on computer games etc.

We certainly have a variety of topics on this thread - we do seem to focus on the weather though - we sound like a bunch of farmers!

Better go - stomach growling.

Good morning, Alison and Colin,

Colin you are right..there was a case a few days ago over here in WA. A father on an access visit with his two children took them on a car trip. On the journey he deliberately ran into a tree at high speed and all three were incinerated. Part of the access deal was that he was only to be allowed supervised visits with his children which didn't happen.

Alison, years ago we had to make our own fun, none of this instant gratification or expensive toys: it taught us to use our imaginations!

Hi all,

Thanks Sue and Allan for you birthday wishes for my daughters birthday, today.

This morning my daughter and I went to breakfast together, her choice, Maccas!!!
She is spending her day with her best friend in town (Melbourne) to see a film, and some clothes shopping, as best friends do!!!
We are all having dinner together tonight, as is our tradition.
I asked her the other day what she would like for her birthday, she told me she would like me to go horse riding with her over the September School holidays.
So, I'm off to ride a horse soon, I'm petrified!!! I hope I don't fall off!!!!

Colin and Allan - it's true this is hardly a forum to discuss such an emotive subject but I think we're all aware - particularly if you read a newspaper - that not all the danger is with strangers. It's a sad fact of life.

Hope you have all had a good day - my day was busier than I planned but I'm not complaining because my OH decided to clear out the gardening shed and throw a load of rubbish out and I was able to sort out some pots and found others I'd forgotten I had.

I bet Tec slept well after his moonlight dance - I hope the neighbours weren't watching or we may find that he's been taken away.

Just popped in while dinner is cooking.

Alison - I take my car for a trip Weekly - not daily. It's because I am such a stay-at-home and only do short necessary trips, that I need to take it out once a week to keep the battery working!

Carole - you are braver than I am. When I was about ten years old, someone gave me a 'leg-up' onto a horse, but I kept going and went down head-first on the other side! Haven't been on a horse since then. A few months ago, someone at a Victorian pony club listed the email addresses of all their members - one of them must be very similar to mine - and was copied down exactly as mine is! The list was then passed around to all of their committee and helpers - so I was receiving mail from all of them. I could have told anyone when all of the events were coming up etc. I wrote to the secretary and he said he would get it fixed, but I still get a lot of them - so my 'Blocked Sender's List" is very long.

Sue - are you getting any rain? To-day has been dull - but no more rain, although it might come down now that I have watered my plants! It's still very cloudy.

Hi, Berona. We've had no rain today in fact it was quite sunny for awhile. It looked like rain this afternoon but nothing happened.

SueMaid.....Well- the men in white coats didn't come for me, I'm still here. The neighbours wouldn't have called them anyway, they are used to me, and would have said " Oh he's having one of turns again - lock the doors"

Berona.......How far do you go on your trips? You wouldn't go far if you lived here. Petrol is currently £1-12pence a litre here, that is £5-14p a gallon. It is a few pence cheaper inland, but because we live in what is regarded as a remote area, we have to pay a premium. I don't know how the price compares to you with the currency exchange rate.

Carole........Hope the birthday dinner was enjoyed by all, and that you managed to stay on that horse. My grand daughter is obsessed with horses, she competes in gymkhana's quite often, and has won lots of trophies.

Tec - I'm glad you haven't been taken away but I do wonder why the neighbours lock their doors. On the subject of fuel - it is expensive here but much better than in the UK. Luckily when we visited the UK last year we shared the cost of fuel with my brother and mum.

Hope everyone comes on this morning to say hello as I won't be on this evening. I'm babysitting my grandchildren so my daughter can have an evening out with friends. Wouldn't it be lovely if we could all get together for an meal. Tec, you really do need to win the lottery:))

Very wet and windy here overnight. A storm front was expected from Margaret River, which is 90 kms south of here, extending to Albany but not until 8:00am today. I don't know if this is the prelude, the fringes or what but it has been really blowing from a bout 1:00 am

I've been reading about the price of petrol in the UK. A friend of my OH's buys the "International Express" each week and when she has finished with it, she passes it on to us

I nearly went into shock ...an MP was saying that MP's salaries should be doubled. As if that wasn't bad enough the statement was made by Sir Patrick Cormack.

I used to work with Sir Patrick's father, Tom Cormack, when I was doing Port Health work at Grimsby in the mid 1970's. I never met Patrick but his mother was always on about him.

Still, I hope that his Knighthood keeps his ears warm in bed!

I hope that for those with outdoor activities planned, the weather stays fine

Sue.....Why do my neighbours lock their doors?
Well, I've no idea what your neighbour looks like, but if you spotted him out there, in the dark, dancing, and howling at the moon, wouldn't you lock your door?
I am doing my very best to win the lottery. I did win £10 the other week, but that wouldn't even buy Berona a new pair of dancing shoes.

Allan.....Hope your inclement weather improves - we actually saw a glimpse of the sun today, in between showers.
I will never get a Knighthood - sometimes have a nightcap, but it doesn't keep my ears warm.

Good morning/evening everyone.

Tec - talking of 'dancing in the dark' sounded so nice and romantic - until I realised you were doing a rain dance! It didn't work for us - we look like having a nice sunny day again to-day. That's OK. I've done my watering.

I only do short trips in my car these days - really interesting trips like to the supermarket, doctor, chemist - you know, lots of fun! Even my children don't live far from me and they usually come to me - I don't need to go to them. I fill up about once a month and that costs me around $30, so I take a weekly trip of about 50-70 kms, non-stop. This was how I found a good fruit market about 7kms from my place, so I did make a stop there and bought enough fruit and veg to feed an army. Couldn't resist how nice and fresh it looked. After that, I went about another 25kms, then turned around and drove back home again.

No 3am walk to-day, Allan? I was awake at 3am and thought of you, but it didn't make me want to go for a walk. I read a few chapters of my book instead!

Sue - enjoy your baby sitting. I'm sure you will.
