Sleep well, Sue

SueMaid Report 3 Sep 2009 21:47

Good morning/evening everyone. A cold, miserable, wet morning here:( I shouldn't complain really because we've had some good downpours and the gardens and lawns have had a good soaking, but the grey skies dampen the spirits.

I intend relaxing for most of today as we have a busy weekend ahead. Fathers' Day on Sunday so the family will be here for a bbq. I'm hoping the weather brightens up by then so the children can play outside. Is there nothing better than the sound of children laughing as they play?

Carole I hope your daughter has a lovely birthday on the weekend - 16 eh? Lovely age.

Hope you Aussies have a good day and our Poms are enjoying the evening.

Good evening/morning

Sue, the damp weather doesn't much help the arthritis either! I was recently 'officially' diagnosed with it, although I had known for some time that I was affected. It's in the ball-joint of my thumbs and sometimes makes simple things like writing painful.

It's Karma...a couple of years ago I was laughing at my OH who also has it in her legs and if kneeling in the garden would often ask me to help her stand again!

Lets hope that the weather both in Oz and Pommie land allows for a good weekend

Regards to all

Good morning, Allan. Yes the damp does play havoc with the arthritis. OH also has arthritis in his thumbs and is often in real pain. He finds that washing up in the morning loosens his hands up....a kind of hydrotherapy:))

Good morning Sue

Yes, it's a real pain in the rear end, metaphorically speaking. I've always considered arthritis an old person's disease.....and I ain't old!!!

16 is a great age to be, and I seemed to stop growing old then.

Each year, until then, I felt mentally a year older on my birthdays, but when I reached 16 that was it. Thank heaven I went down my own path and not one like the late MJ

Good Morning SueMaid,
Good Morning Allan,

I'm sorry it's still raining on you Sue - my fault for sending it, but was only thinking of your garden. We have the village play park at the back of my house. Big fund raising effort last year to refurbish it - everything new now.The sound of childrens laughter from there often makes me laugh too.

Allan, You shouldn't have laughed at your OHs painful knees - now you're getting your cum-uppance.
I hope the sun shines for you all on Father's Day. We have that in June here.

Regards
Tec.

Good evening Tec

At least I got a cum-uppance, which is more than my OH did until I helped !! lol

I also love the sound of children playing, but in this day and age you have to be careful who you admit that to. We have children on both sides, and at the back and in summer when the are in the home pools the sounds of laughter and splashing about are quite relaxing.

Sue...... I did a rain dance for you especially....but I don't know how to do a sun-dance, wish I did.

Allan, Isn't it sad you have to be so careful about children these days. Makes you think twice before even smiling at a strange child now, for fear of being accused of some ulterior motive. My daughter is a teacher in a primary school, if a child is hurt by falling in the playground, they must not dare give them a hug - I find that ridiculous.

Tec, you are so right

Years ago, before our two were born, we lived next door to a couple who had two young girls, the eldest being about four.

In summer we always used to leave the kitchen door open to let some of the heat out when my OH was cooking dinner. This door was opposite the other house kitchen door.

as regular as clockwork the eldest daughter would march into our kitchen and ask my OH "Is your daddy in?"..she associated men with dads.

She would then march into the living room, sit opposite me and proceed to tell me what she had been up to the previous week. I had more intelligent conversations with that girl than I've had with some adults.

When the girl's mum thought it was time for her to leave she would also pop into the house and collect her daughter

I can't see that happening these days!

It is ridiculous Tec but unfortunately a sign of the times. We were visiting Saltburn by Sea in north-east England and there was a group of kindergarten children playing on the sand. We were watching them line up, hold hands and get ready to run into the water. Without thinking my OH raised his camera to take what would have been a charming photo when another couple told us that it probably wouldn't be a good idea. We all agreed it was a shame especially when the children all ran into the water with the adults and then squealed and ran out again. It was a lovely sight and such a shame that we almost felt guilty enjoying the moment.

It seems the age of innocence has passed - but as a male, I object most strongly to being automaticly suspect.
Not long ago a man was beaten up in a park for taking a photo of his own children on a bouncy castle because other children were also in the shot.
Ludicrous

Good morning/evening everyone. I'm late again. Did a few more things than I intended to do before hopping onto the puter.

Tec - the mind boggles at the idea of you doing a rain-dance. I'd love to see it.

I also think that the present day attitude regarding children's safety, seems over the fence and I miss a lot of those things too - however, I understand that a lot of children may have been abused in the past, and it was never discovered. This is what the authorities are trying to avoid with their present day rules. Hope it works, as a lot of it seems ridiculous to me too.

My daughter pulled me up recently on another current issue. I told her that I couldn't buy shoes in 'nigger brown' - only the lighter shades of tan, dark tan, etc. seemed to be available. She said "you can't say that any more". Heaven forbid! it's the only name I've ever used to describe the darkest shade of brown! I have never associated it with skin colour - only leather!

Sue,

Because we live close to the water I often go for a walk and take a camera, hoping for a few shots of dolphins.

One of the places you are most likely to encounter them is in an area adjacent to a children's play ground, but I make a conscious effort to avoid that area for obvious reasons
