Good morning Aussies, Good evening Brits

Hi Susan, SueMaid, Berona, Susan, Carole, Colin, Tec, and apologies to anyone I have missed.

That brief trip to Sydney will be in my memory until I die...the trip itself, and Sydney were fine: I was due to fly out of Perth on a Monday and was to pick up my ticket at the airport. The previous Saturday I had gone out with the Council Social Club whale watching just of the coast from Margaret River. Not being a good sailor I had taken the usual anti sea sickness tablets and not being a clear thinker had a few glasses of red both on the boat and on shore.

Needless to say, the combination of the two rendered me more useless than I normally am.

I got home and thought about getting my gear ready for the Monday when I realised that I had lost my wallet. Credit Card, Driver's Licence, State Government ID card all gone!

In a blind panic I cancelled my credit card, drove down to Margaret River on the Sunday to check over the area where we had had the BBQ, spoke to the Whale Watching crew....no wallet. Off to the Police station to report it missing and then sheer dread...I had no ID to ba able to pick up the plane tickets!

Numerous phone calls to Virgin Blue...sorry without ID, no ticket.

Then late Sunday afternoon a call from the bus company whose bus we had hired for the Margaret River trip: my wallet had been found and all its contents were intact. It had been wedged between the seats.

Now the opposite applied, I was able to travel to Sydney but was strapped for cash as I had cancelled my CC and put a block on my bankcard.

Oh happy days!

Good morning/evening everyone:))

Tec - I would never be so discourteous as to refer to you as an old dog:))

What a night it's been here. The wind has been incredible and we've yet to venture outside to see what the damage is. Shouldn't be too bad in the back yard as our house is on a slope and is protected by the house next door. I did take down the hanging baskets and moved the garden furniture just to be on the safe side. Carole, I do hope you are all safe. Victoria seems to have got the brunt of the crazy weather. I'm watching the winds batter Melbourne on the news.

Have a good day, Aussies and enjoy the rest of your evening Poms:))

Berona Report 25 Aug 2009 22:41

Good evening Tec - and anyone else in Britain. Good morning Australia - don't tell me I'm first cab off the rank to-day?

Tec - would love to see you all fly out here but make sure you keep enough money to buy half the cruise-ship with me!

Linda - you must be spoiled. Business class indeed! My OH flew B.C. when on business, but he was quite happy to fly Economy when paying for it himself. I suppose it is a bit daunting for those of you who think Australia is 'over the other side of the world' - where we think nothing of the trip, as it takes us to a lot of countries, or brings us "home".

Reports of strong winds here in Sydney and where SueMaid lives. I can't see any sign of it yet, as I live in a sheltered complex - and anyway, the weather here where I live is so very often different from the way it is in other parts of Sydney. We seem to be in some kind of a narrow strip which is not affected by the weather. We certainly don't see as much rain as other places do -but then, Sydney hasn't seen much anyway - but we've seen even less.

Editted to say, Sue, you beat me to it while I was typing!

Good morning Sue,

I got the super-dooper laser LOOK, I'm ashamed to say. And I deserved it

NSW and Vic must be copping the winds that we had recently. The last couple of days have been great here, nice mild days.

This morning though, whilst I was out walking a fairly thick fog descended. I hope that clears before I head of to Harvey for the day's work

Hi, Berona

Hi Allan,
That was an experience enough to bring you out in a cold sweat.
We've all had those kind of nightmare experiences, but can look back and laugh fortunately..........

Hi Sue......Sounds like you had a rough night - I hope there isn't any damage. I hate the wind too, being on the West Coast we get the full force of Westerly gales - tomorrow could be fun here. Hope everything is ok for you........I knew you weren't calling me an old dog.
Been called worse, but not prepared to put it on here lol

G'Day Berona,

Don't worry - there will be plenty left to buy half the boat....

Which half are you buying - Fore' OR Aft'

Pointed end - or blunt end.........

Being a lady you can have first choice

Just had a look around and all is reasonably well. A plant pot has blown over and smashed but it's no great loss and the plant's ok. It was top-heavy so I should have had it in a more sheltered position. We had stacked a few folding chairs against a wall and they have fallen but no damage done. I looked over the back fence and there are a lot of broken branches on the trees. Berona, I'm glad you haven't had this wild weather. As I said I think Carole has probably had a lot worse than we have.

Janet, hope you are feeling better today. Winter colds can linger and make you feel miserable.

Linda, if you're looking in I hope your mother has had a good day today.

Good evening Tec, We,too, face west and really cop the winds in winter.

For no apparent reason, other than that is how my mind works, when you asked Berona which part of the ship she would like to purchase i just got a vision of Edward Lear's Jumblies

"far and few, far and few, are the lands where the Jumblies live.
their hair is green, their hands are blue and the went to sea in a sieve they did, in a sieve they went to sea"

I'm not sure that those are the precise words but they'll suffice

Sue, I'm pleased that your property has not suffered any major damage.

I can stand most weather but strong winds really get me to the childish point that I just want to get my head under the bedcovers and not come out until they have passed

Hello everyone, just a quick check in before I go to bed. It was cinema duty tonight, although I could have done without that.

I hope that all our Aussie friends are fine as that wind sounds bad, not that I am suggesting that you all have wind.....

Berona, I am only spoiled by flying business class because of OH's frequent flyer points. His work took him to far flung places, always flying business class and staying in the best hotels, while I stayed in the UK ferrying the children around. He amassed a huge number of frequent flyer points which we used for holidays. Not that the flights were all that cheap because you have to pay the taxes and that made it just about as much as a cattle class flight. Still it was nice to be able to turn left when you got on the plane. Sadly we have used them all up now, so are back in the cheap seats.

They have finally identified the bacteria in mums bloodstream, so have blitzed her with the correct antibiotics and she is responding well to them. The pneumonia seems to be a bit better as well. Sadly they have just moved her from the nice ward where she has been being treated into one of the "chest" wards. This is bad news as it is one of the large busy wards where she will get very little attention. Her local hospital is very poor and she has been in enough times for us to know how appalling some of the treatment can be.

Still she seems to be on the mend which is a relief, given how ill she has been.

Allan...........

I saw those Jumblies when I ventured inland the other week.

Some ad purple hair - green, crimson all colours,

Don't worry Berona, we won't buy a sieve I ope.

SueMaid Report 25 Aug 2009 23:31

Linda I'm glad your mum has improved. Identifying the bug makes it easier now they can give her the right treatment. It's a shame she has been moved to another ward.

My son had a stomach bug awhile back and had to have some time off work. It was annoying for him as he would go to work feeling fine but then would come home by mid-day feeling unwell. It improved but now and then he still feels off colour at times and he came home early again the other day feeling ill. He went to the doctor who ran some tests and found that he still has the stomach bug and it is the bacteria that causes ulcers. He is now on 8 tablets a day and on vitamin tablets as he is also Vit.B12 deficient. As he has been feeling anxious and stressed without any obvious reason he is now relieved to find that B12 is the vitamin responsible for feelings of well-being as well as other things.
