I think our Tec and Berona have become friends via this site - how nice:))

I think my taste in music is widespread due to influence from my parents, my own tastes in the 60's and 70's and now my children's influence. They all like our music. My youngest at 28 loves Bobby Darin (sp?). I like some of their music. My daughter has introduced me to Amy Winehouse and although I don't like her life style I love her voice.

I meant to say that music also brings back memories. If I hear the Beach Boys I'm transported back to 1968/9 sitting on the beach with friends during summer holidays and making eyes at surfies who's only interest was the next big wave:)) Listening to Al Martino singing "Spanish Eyes" makes me think of my dad as this was a great favourite of his. He also loved Johnny Cash and we played "Walk the Line" at his funeral.

My tastes run to classsical music and also liturgical music.


I love Gregorian chant and the chants of good old Dame Hildegard Von Bingen.

I also like the sacred music of the Eastern Orthodox Church. I'm not a particularly religous person, but there is something about this music which stirs what passes for my soul

Morning/Evening

Another rainy day here hope it clears up this afternoon as my son starts his finals today for football. Other son has finished his football so I actually got to sleep in this morning:))))
I am off to the shops this morning but not for long as I do not like shopping...I am a get it and get out kinda shopper, have been since I was little. Mum and my sister could shop for hours so I never get an invite...lol. Either that or they look at me and say Janet has had enough they can tell by my face.!!

Still seem to be coughing, hoping it clears over the weekend so I can get back to normal next week.

Ah Allan you're a marshmallow really aren't you:))))

Janet hope you start to feel better soon. A cold can really drag you down and make you feel lousy - especially if the weather's miserable. Hope your boy does well and advances through to the next round.

The weather here has been glorious - warm and sunny. We've done some more work in the yard. Mostly washing down outdoor furniture and putting aside a couple of things that need repairing and staining.

Oh Berona I got a shock - I thought you could see me through the screen:)) Actually the party is tomorrow but I've just sat down after icing 24 cup cakes. 12 pink ones with sugar roses and 12 blue ones with choc chips. Of course there were a couple left over and we had to try one:)) My daughter rang not long ago to say the pirate ship cake looks great. She's very clever having drawn it all out. Each part was marked A, B, C etc. She said it went together very well. This is the girl who made an Elmo cake 3 weeks after having twins. She copied it from a Sesame Street book.

I've just been reading the thread about the Lockerbie bomber being allowed home to die. Do you find it difficult here in Australia making comments on British law and politics. I often feel I don't have a right to speak for or against in a debate. Or do you often feel that something you would like to say goes against popular opinion and you'd prefer not to air your views? Not that I've been backward in coming forward on some threads:))

Good morning/Evening everyone. I hope you are all keeping well?
Not much happening here but the sun is shining so I may get out into the garden today. Other than the usual chores, I won't be doing too much (don't want to wear myself out) Lol.

I do envy you all living in Australia and other various Countries. Its a long time since I was able to visit other Countries. Although I did go to Ireland to my Sisters a couple of times. lol My only 'Claim to fame' is that I used to live in Cyprus but it was a long time ago and I was only 'knee high to a grass hopper' at the time. I do remember quite a bit of it though. We lived in Limasol for a while and then moved to Akrotiri as it was safer for us there. We lived there when the conflict was on and there were a lot of shootings ect.
I would love to go back and see what it is like now. I expect is has changed a lot.

I visited Cyprus in 1970 when I was in the Army Reserve. We were based at Akrotiri as part of the Joint Services Health Unit.

SueMaid, you said that I was a marshmallow, which is true, but in cases like Biggs or the Lockerbie murders, which is what it was, I'm afraid my heart turns to stone.

The b*stards should do their time! Did they give their victims any special consideration..I don't think so.

Just to see the greeting that the bomber received in Libya filled me with revulsion

I usually keep out of the threads concerning British law and where I think there might be a debate, but on my last trip to the UK in 1989, we did a tour which took in Lockerbie and we were in the crowded pub with the locals. We could see how they were all deeply affected by the disaster and I just felt I had to put in my little bit concerning 'compassionate' leave from gaol.

I don't stay around to see if anyone wants to argue with me at these times - I just say my piece and go.
