Good morning/evening everyone. I'm up very early this morning.

Welcome to the Aussie thread GirlFromOz - hope you pop in often.

We're dog-sitting this weekend as my sister-in-law is away for a wedding. The dogs are little malteses - one the sister of my little dog. They are all getting old now so instead of racing around the back yard they just tend to sniff at each other then go to sleep:)) The only problem is meal time when my dog tends to get a bit snarly.

Grandson's birthday party tomorrow so that'll be fun. 14 children will be there so I'll make individual cupcakes for them all to take home. The kids all seem to love them although the little ones tend to eat the icing and decorations and leave the cake. My daughter always makes the children's birthday cakes and is attempting a pirate ship this year. She's designed it herself so I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Hope you have a great day today Aussies and enjoy the rest of the evening our Pommie friends.

Good Morning Aussies
GoodEvening Poms,

Hi SueMaid,
Can I bring my labrador for the weekend? he's very well behaved in other peoples house, especially if there's food about.
The birthday party sounds fun - hope the Pirate Ship turns out ok. My daughter is a teacher in a primary school. If one of the children in her class has a birthday, she makes a theme cake to suit what she thinks that child is interested in. Some of them are quite imaginative.
I am in a very strange mood tonight - which is a bad sign. I feel like doing something totally outrageous tomorrow, but can't think what.
All ideas will be seriously considered.......

Tec send your lab along - I'm sure he'll enjoy having 3 yappy little dogs getting under his feet:))

If you think we're going to encourage you to do something outrageous then you have another think coming:)) I'm not having Mrs Tec come on here blaming us for your misbehaviour. Although when Allan gets here I'm sure the two of you will come up with something.

It's lovely of your daughter to do a cake for each of her pupils. Lucky children.

Hi SueMaid Hi Tecwyn
how's you both today?
I make Christmas cake's, but was to busy last year to make one but had got all the ingredient's, so I decided to do it about three month's ago, been feeding it with rum, by the time I get round to marzipan and icing it will be ready just in time for this christmas, { mind you it will be pretty drunk by then } lol. Good job the alchohol stop's it from going stale.

Tecwyn Report 21 Aug 2009 22:08

Sue.........
Labs on his way.....thanks
I think Mrs Tec gave up long ago - no longer surprised at anything, but it sure keeps her on her toes......she must like it, she is still here after 46 yrs.

Allan will have some bright ideas I'm sure...........can't wait.

Being serious, and not wishing to cross threads, but I noticed on another thread that you suggested someone saved their tree on a memory stick.
I have a memory stick that I save something I'm writing about. That is normally in "My Documents"
If I bring my tree up on Genes, how do I save that onto a memory stick?

SueMaid Report 21 Aug 2009 22:14

Hello, Diane - nice to see you:))

That's going to be some cake by Christmas. My OH is the only one in the family who loves Christmas cake so I usually buy him a small one - the same with Christmas pudding. My dad loved it and would eat it with a slice of cheese. That fascinated my kids when they were younger and they'd stand at his side and stare at him as he ate his cake and cheese:))

I don't really want to think about Christmas just yet. Still in the midst of birthdays. August is our birthday month with 7 birthdays in 3 weeks. By the time my birthday comes in September everyone is broke:(

Sorry Tec I must have been typing while you were posting. I'm not sure about the GR tree being saved on a memory stick but when OH gets up I'll ask him and he might have suggestions. I save mine from the Family Tree Program and that's easy.

When I train new volunteers I use a memory stick as do other presenters and it's so easy. We have a computer in the lecture room and we no longer have to lug up a screen projector and folders.

Hi GirlFromOz........

Hello Diane, I can taste that Christmas cake from here, that's going to be one tipsy cake by Christmas.
I enjoy a slice of Christmas Pud fried in butter with cream on - delicious

Thanks Sue.......I must do something about saving my tree, at the moment it's only on Genes, and I'm afraid I may lose it some how.
Given that I'm a geriatric dinosaur I not very computer savvy, unlike you bright young things with razor sharp brains.

My daughter has bought me an MP3 Player and an I-Pod recently, both gone in the desk unused

"Very interesting dear- but what is it" lol

SueMaid Report 21 Aug 2009 22:32

Oh Tec - learn how to use your MP3 player. Truly they are wonderful for sitting quietly listening to music you've chosen yourself or for listening to music when you go for a walk. Of course if you're with other people they're antisocial but by yourself they're wonderful.

Diane Report 21 Aug 2009 22:38

Yes you two it's going to be very very tasty lol
will have to make sure no one drive's if they have a piece. I know what your saying Sue I hate useing the { C } word this time of the year { to soon lol }but it was the only way to tell you what kind of cake it was. Isn't it weird the different way's people enjoy to eat different item's. I knew a girl in my younger day's who put a sprinkle of salt on her apple slices and that way you enjoy your { C } pudding Tec is that a welsh tradition of eating it, sound's nice.
Sue Hope your Grandson's party go's well and not to much mess made, how old is he?

Allan

Allan Report 21 Aug 2009 22:47

Good whatever time of day it is to you all

Tec, an invite to a party for children? Lots of sloppy food, trifles, custard: if we had a mole in SueMaid's house, we could innocently suggest a food fight

Janet I hope that your cold and tendonitis soon clear up, but I am sure that the current cold and damp conditions are not helping.

Diane, I used to make our Christmas cakes when I lived in the UK. I used to start them in September, and like you I administered rum on weekly basis.

When my two kids got married I made them both a two tiered wedding cake. However, I had to leave the actual decorating of all cakes to my OH.

Oh, SueMaid, MP3 player indeed. I remember my first record player: a wind up gramophone with grat big needles that you could have almost knitted with

Joke for today

Diane.......
I don't think that is particularly a Welsh way of eating Christmas Pud.
My wifes father used to eat it that way - he was a Welsh miner - I then tried it, and enjoyed it that way since.

G'Day Allan,

Like todays joke,
Think of the fun you and I could have at Sue's party - we could go as clowns, and get the kids really going with the jelly and custard fight -
Sue and her daughter would love it wouldn't they?

You've all beaten me to the punch again! I was up early, too - but got waylaid by my messages and checking other threads. Anyway, welcome to our newcomer and good morning/evening to all!

Tec, I would download the tree onto your computer by using the Import/Export Gedcom at the bottom of this page - then copy it over to your memory stick. It can take anything from a few minutes to a couple of days to download, so you might have to be patient.

My very first purchase in this materialistic world was a green Dansette Record Player.
When I went to Oz I got invited to all these parties becauseI was the one with the record player, and a stack of LPs and 45s
