Hello all:-))

Alison... I too will be thinking of you on Friday, as I have been for the last few days ((((((hugs)))))))) Stay strong and keep smiling, ploise!!!! xxxx

I found an amazing contact the other day, this guy holds marriage details and death records for the Colne Valley, Almondbury and Huddersfield, Yorkshire districts. Even more amazing he has records for before the 1837 years.
If anyone is interested, just let me know and I will give you the details :-)))

Sue..Cant you just take your laptop with you when you go away??? We will miss you too much :-(((((

I missed watching the Melbourne Cup, yesterday..I was so busy doing something else...not that I follow the GG's or even gamble for that matter!!
"Shocking" won, for anyone that is interested!!

Berona Report 4 Nov 2009 06:40

Back in 1970, my OH and I were instrumental in starting our local soccer club. New homes were going up everywhere and young families moving in, so there were lots of young lads looking to play the sport.

The help we received from parents was fantastic, not to mention the amount of friends we made. One such family had emigrated from England in recent years, but after three years with our club, the Dad decided to return to the UK, as his mother was ailing. The remainder of the family didn't want to go, but went along with what the father wanted. Sadly, only days before they left, the grandmother passed away, so they arrived only in time to attend the funeral...I didn't hear of them again until this week.

I sometimes go into Friends Reunited and look up my old schools, also the schools which my children attended. I love to see what paths people's lives took after leaving school...This week, I decided to type in the name of the club and found quite a few of the 'old boys', including two of the boys from this family who had returned to England in 1973. I sent a message to one of them and asked him to "say hello" to his parents. I have received a prompt reply from him saying that he contacted his Mum and she would love to hear from me - and gave me her email address.

Needless to say, I have already sent off the email - and I'm looking forward to 'catching up'!

Hello Berona,

That's fantastic news! We hear so much about the dangers of the Internet, but not so much about the positive things.

Currently 27oC here and very humid. Storms forecast for today and tomorrow

It has been low 20's here. Pleasantly warm; overcast - but still no rain.

Yes, Allan, I was thrilled about that. They were such nice people that I did miss them when they went back. They had no idea what they would be doing when they got there, and no address and I don't think they had my home address either. We saw so much of each other at meetings, helping in the canteen, and generally 'around the field', we didn't have time to socialise in those early days.

The son I contacted was only nine when they went back and he is probably hoping some team- or school-mate will remember him, as he doesn't remember me, of course. However, it shows that it's a good idea to mention everywhere you have been in case someone from that time sees it, as I did. I may even be able to help him contact one of his old friends, as I still live in the same area.

Good morning everyone.

The sun is attempting to shine here, but I am not letting that fool me as I know it is very cold out there. I had to keep my arms tucked under the duvet (dooner) this morning because they were so cold when they were out.

carol, I would love the contact for the person with the Huddersfield deaths as my mother came from there. I have a couple of annoying ones i can't find on my tree, even though I have trawled through the original images

Hi Linda

The site is: Steve Whitwam's Family History.
www.whitwam.co.uk

When you enter his site you will be able to email him directly, he will give you an access code which you copy and paste into the access box.
Linda, if you get stuck, let me know and I will help you if I can.
I was also born in Huddersfield, I know its a big town...wouldn't it be funny if our family's knew each other?

Hey-ho Beautiful Peoples,

I won't be on here for a couple of days as I shall be quite busy, in hospital, at both ends of the spectrum (so to speak) - no rec**um jokes please. Will be waaaaay glad when it's over.

Please behave Tec, Allan and Colin. Have a lovely break SueMaid. Hope your place smells normal soon Berona and to everyone - that's - everyone, have fun.

Thanks for that Carol, I have gone to the site and have added it to my favourites, I will look at it tonight.

My mother was born in Cumberworth and the family was in the area for generations before that,so there are loads of them all over the area.

I go to the records office in Huddersfield from time to time, it is in the central library. I really need to go soon because I have a great long list of things to look up.

I have just been down to the allotment in my wellies. we had a phenomenal amount of rain over the last couple of days, so the soil is really claggy. I picked even more sprouts, plus an enormous armful of pink Chrysanthemums. I have just taken them to one of the neighbours who is a bit down at the moment,so I thought she might like them, which she did.

I must sort my self out and leave soon as I have to attend the official probate hearing for my mothers estate. I hope it all goes well, it should do, but I can't help worrying that I have done something wrong on the forms.

Goodnight beautiful Alison. Good luck for tomorrow. It's a bit of a b*mmer but you probably won't feel a thing, and be sparking on all 4 / 6 / 8 cylinders in no time. xx Colin

Oh dear, even Colin is coming out with Allan like witticisms. I had better go in case it is contagious.

Bye all

Alison Report 4 Nov 2009 11:43

Thanks Colin!

No, Linda, I am not hairy-legged like Allan. I suspect he walks better in heels than I do as well!

Sorry Linda, have a good afternoon and hope the rain eases. After 38 C yesterday it was a balmy 23 or so today in not very sunny Sydney.
Goodnight Carole.
