I think 24 hour trading is not all it is cracked up to be. Our local supermarket trialled it for a while and I would go occasionally in the early hours when I was waiting to pick my daughter up from a nightclub. The problem was that the fresh food shelves would be just about empty and the rest of the isles would be full of the night staff filling up all the shelves.

Persephone,
Loved your post - hope your trip to town doesn't turn into an ordeal,

Berona,
Don't worry, I won't make you freeze in Alaska - as my Personal Advisor, I will leave the itinery of the cruise to you, so you may go where you wish, and we'll all follow you.

Did you say wind-ups, Barbra? Am I missing something?

Allan

Allan Report 30 Oct 2009 22:12

Sue OH and myself are seriously discussing going to Canada next year.

It will be our 40th and there is also a conference which I would like to attend in Vancouver, which actually starts on our wedding anniversary. We would go earlier and go on on of those Alaskan voyages.

I would also like to visit Toronto as I have some sketches done in the mid 1880's of the area with a particularly intriguing one of Fort Henry at Kingston. it would also give my chance to catch up with a childhood sweetheart who now lives there. It seems impossible to picture her as a grandmother of six!

Now, isn't that nice? Just as I was about to remind Tec of how long he has been sipping the Pimms, he goes and says something nice like that!
(or is it the Pimms talking?)

I would like to go to Vancouver as well Allan, as I have family there.
A cousin of my mum's lives there and she has some family mementos which she wants to give to me. My aunt also lived there, but she died last year. Her daughter and son in law are still there, but I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole (long story). We did try to go using some of OH's frequent flyer points, but couldn't get any business class tickets and it is too far to go cattle class.

Your OH wouldn't mind if I tagged along on your anniversary would she?

Barbra..
I know I'm an Ancient Monument,
but I don't think Allan quite quailifies yet.

Berona,
So where are you leading us - not up the garden path I hope.

Allan,
Maybe some were pleased you were at the meeting, while others were not?

Allan that sounds like a wonderful trip. Canada is on our large list of places to go.

Berona, make sure you pick a lovely place to go seeing as Tec as given you the job of holiday co-ordinator. I'm happy to follow where you lead us:-))

Barbra I'm enjoying the silly wind-up threads that are on tonight.

There you go Tec, i just said that I like ancient monuments,so no wonder I get along so well with you.

Speaking of ancient monuments,I am off to spend sometime with OH, so good night one and all.

Allan

Allan Report 30 Oct 2009 22:28

Linda OH would probably be all right with that...after all she does not mind me catching up with my old sweetheart...whom she has met and who also was a guest at our wedding.

Tec it is interesting as there is a possibility that the Shire of Dardanup and the City of Bunbury (as well as parts of neighbouring Shires) could be forced to amalgamate. The whole question would then be academic

Barbra no I'm not an Ancient Monument.....more a Stately Edifice

Berona,

The last time I saw her was at our wedding. She had married a little earlier than myself.

I then lost touch until a few years ago when I was trying to locate her brother, who had been my best mate at High School. I found her via the internet in one of those coincidences that occurr from time to time...and yes my OH has seen the sparse bit of info we have exchanged.

Must be off folks. I need to go out and buy a few sweets for a couple of gorgeous little ones who dress up, knock on the door and giggle while their mum waits for them. I'm a meanie because I won't give to the young teens that just knock on the door hoping for a handout - but I will give sweets to the little ones who dress up.

Enjoy your day Aussies and a good evening to our Pom friends.

Goodnight Linda. Pleasant dreams.

Just had a quick look at the top thread on page one. That would have to be the busiest to stay there - and what a load of codwallop! Same old windups by the same old posters. Gets monotonous. Can't they find something else to talk about instead of whether or not a person did open a pm when they said they didn't? Seven pages all about that!

p.s. Are you leaving us Sue? Have a nice day!

Allan

Allan Report 30 Oct 2009 22:51

Bye Sue, have agood day and watch out for WUMs

Berona, what amazes me is that people realize that it's a windup, but they still respond.

Barbra it's amazing how things happen. I am also a member of Friends Reunited. My old girlfriend has a photo on there with one of her grandsons and she hasn't really changed all that much.

I also managed to contact several old school friends on there but after 45 years its amazing that we really didn't have a lot to discuss
