Barbra.... Been to Hawaii many times, grossly over rated in my opinion. Fiji and the South Sea Islands are far nicer.

Started to-day better than yesterday, although I put on a load of washing and inadvertenly left the freshly-opened packet of washing powder sitting on top of the machine and came in to join this thread....Not so easy!

Only got part-way through reading when I heard the machine going into the spin cycle - then SPLATT!!! the vibration made the packet 'walk' to the edge of the lid!...so I cleaned the floor up (again!) and came in to join you.

Morning all -

Could not get near the computer since Thursday morning our time, himself has either been on it or we have been out. So this morning it has taken me nearly an hour just reading what has been going on.

Colin: Like you we learnt proper history at school - we did the iceage, iron age etc plus all the discoverers and nearly every country except Wales it was just a constant source of research and all without computers. When my youngest was at high school part of her curriculum in History was the Vietnam War - I said but that's current events to me - I was in the States during the Goldwater - Johnson elections.

Stiff petticoats were in during the fifties here and I had fluorescent lime green socks that glowed in the dark not that I was allowed out in the dark at such a young age. I wanted shocking pink ones as well but never got them - so perhaps now Berona would oblige. Years later in the eighties we had a bit of a revival of coloured socks and I got myself a pair of ming blue ones do wear with a black jumpsuit and I had this ming blue sash around the middle - my boss used to call it my Olivia Newton-John outfit. That jumpsuit looked really snazzie but it was beggar when it came to using the facilities.

Glad your facilities are sorted Berona - we once had our drains blocked. (very kindly by the young lads next door - they had lifted the lid off the sewer system down the back and chucked debris down it) All the effluent started building up until it was coming back up the outlets. I did do a giggle when I read about your handbasin taps giving you a shower. I am sure this would make for good TV sitcom - it would be far better than some of the drivel we get.

Sue - we had a wear purple day with a red hat here awhile ago. We also had some one from OZ talking on National Radio the other day about the Australian shoreline and how some beaches have disappeared and that Melbourne and surrounds have buildings that are too big to be near the coast and could vanish into the sea at any time. We also have a bigamist in the family history - she declared him dead after seven years when he went away to sea - but no he popped up again with a new wife.

It is a market day today in our local village so am being told to hurry up - I am to drive down, leave the car at the village, walk to the mall several blocks away - do his banking and then come back and collect car and he will struggle back home on his crutches. This is his idea - he has them from time to time.

He also has type 2 Allan & Colin, and I came very close to it but managed to turn it all around lose weight and make a few changes. I love my walking but since he has stopped work it has just about ground to a halt.

Tec you would need these bright colours for your Tango dancing - and Berona I think he wants you to knit him one of those 'stretch 'n grow' outfits.

Keep well Barbra, Linda, Patricia, Janet, Carolee and anyone I have missed.
Maybe Sue you need to take a roll call..
And as my son-in-law always says on the phone Catch you later. (if he did he would probably drop me)

Tec, I hope we are not going to argue about our cruise. I would freeze if I went to Alaska - I have no desire to go there. On the TV, yes - it's great - but not in reality. However, even though I have been once to Hawaii, I would happily go again, only this time, I would be game to try one of those drinks which are blue. Don't know what the name is - but I saw the results on other people!

Hi, Persey. I have such a laugh at your posts - you have a way with words. Perhaps I do need to do a roll call - I'm losing count of everyone on here. The thread has grown incredibly - so much more than I had envisaged.

I though that the Almalfi coast drive was very overrated Barbra. Sorrento is nice enough, but Pompeii was fascinating, but the ruins at Herculaneum are much better preserved. I like visiting historical sites, but then I like Disneyland as well lol

Barbra, as UK is still in Friday mode I assume you want to know about my yesterday which is now our tomorrow except it's today.

If nothing else, I earned all my consultancy fees from the Shire of Dardanup.

Long story short, many years ago while the Shire was still a small rural Council, it was trying to attract a major retailer into the area. The particular retailer was thinking of building in the City of Bunbury (which it eventually did) but at the time Bunbury did not even have Saturday afternoon trading.

So dardanup applied for, and was granted, approval for all their retail outlets to trade 7 days a week 24 hrs a day.

Nothing was said by neighbouring Councils at the time but they are now all up in arms together with the owners of a new shopping centre in Australind, as it seems that the Eaton branch of W**lworths will start 24 hr trading soon.

I was working at Dardanup when all this happened and with changes of staff I am the only one who remembers the course of events.

As it turned out I even got the year right and found the documentation on the file.

It seems that the other players are disputing whether Dardanup has this approval.
