As far as computers go, I wish I had been born later - I would have made a career of them - but I am still always eager to learn more about them and anything else.

I don't like to think of myself as an old lady - but can't help it when one of my children takes a firm grip of my arm to make sure I don't trip on something and fall. My stiff knees force me to sit down more than I want to, and my wrists are unreliable - most of the times they are good - but there are other times too - however, once I am sitting comfortably, my fingers and brain are as good as they ever were - that's when I don't feel that I'm an old lady. New inventions always fascinate me.

If you get a recorder, Tec, don't throw the player away. I had a player at first, then two years ago, was given a recorder for a present. This has now stopped playing and recording. DIL is coming over at the weekend - she's the electronics expert - and if she can't fix it, I'll be getting out the old player again. Better than nothing, although I like to record my favourite TV programs and look at them in my own time.

I refuse to add anymore expence than I need to, I got my digy box free when I ordered item's in catalogue over a certain amount, so no need to buy new TV or subscribe to any of the company's that provide digital TV.

We bought our daughter's DVD recorder when she recently moved out (her new partner also had one) but we kept the old vidoe recorder as we have so many films and shows on tape.

It now sits connected to an old tv in one of our rooms.

Well I must go now and prepare for the day ahead.

No Diane, not many jobs where you don't need to use a computer for some reason or other. When I said I would make a career of them, I meant that I would like to work on the technical/programming side of it.

I did have my own business tutoring users, prior to retiring. I started it just before I was widowed and it was good therapy for me for a few years.

Goodness - everyone is leaving. I had better go and see if our plumber has arrived yet. Still got a sewer line blockage and somehow, I was nominated to talk to the plumber. Talk to you all later.

As regards age, I think it's largely up to the individual and their attitude.
There is a neighbour of mine, same age, and frankly he IS an old man. No interests other than a daily paper, and sits about all day waiting to go to bed.
I am never still, don't seem able to sit down for long during the day, and I'm interested in so many things, have always regarded having to go to bed as a waste of life. I think if you can keep your brain active, and are interested in what goes on around you, you will stay young in outlook.
My mother was 85 when she died four years ago, but right to end she was as sharp as a razor, and could discuss up to the minute world affairs with anyone. Also she had many outside interests to keep her busy as much as her health would allow.
So age is just an attitude, and yes, I believe you are 39, keep it up.

I don't know if anyone is out there at the moment, but I wasn't able to get on either this morning before I started work or at lunch time. Lots of messages to catch up on.

Loved Quasimodo. I have heard Part 1 before, but it can stand the occasional repeat.
I got a digital HDD/DVD recorder with digital tuner a few months ago, as my old VHS recorder died age 20 so it was probably just old and full of years.
Mr Rudd's 900 dollar stimulus package paid for it, with plenty left over. Trouble is I had already used the 900 for other things.

I read your exchange with Mr Tec re the flying experience. What an interesting exchange!
I think I am a similar vintage to Miss Sue.Of course I believe Miss Berona when she said she was 39 but then on the Old Geezer's thread she admitted her first flight was more than 39 years ago. I will soon be 61. Too soon. I always said I would retire the weekend after my 60th but didn't. My girl friend of 18 years (how long we have been seeing each other, not her age) retired due to ill health a couple of years ago. She took a while to find new interests but has been enjoying retirement except for money worries.
Maybe we will be joined by some others, soon.

I was 61 this year but do not feel it, mentally, that is!!

I have aches, pains, arthritis in my hands, but mentally still feel 16. I have never been bothered about getting older for as you will have seen from some of my posts, I'm still as daft as ever.

I agree with Tec, ageing is a state of mind. I think that some people are born old!

I have only been to WA once, about 1990: flew to Perth, took a 3 day WA Rail tour to Kalgoorlie and saw the big pit and the city sights.
Then did a 3 day "backpackers" style bus tour to Monkey Mia and Kalbarri.
The rest of the fortnight was in Perth and Freo. If I ever get back I would like to see the area below Perth.
I would certainly visit Freo again. Loved the place, especially the Maritime Museum. At the time, they had the original of Dirk Hartog's 1616 plate on loan as well as the one de Vlamingh left in its place at Shark Bay.
So much of early WA history is Dutch. The first temporary settlement was after the wreck of the "Batavia", 1600s but can't remember exactly when, the first mutiny, and the first executions.
The first Englishman to see Australia was in 1688, almost 80 years before Captain Cook. His name was William Dampier. I learned Australian history back in the days when they actually taught it in our schools. Before other things became more trendy.

Hello Allan, you posted when I was looking up some maps (of WA. Bless Google). I also am awfully well for the shape I'm in. Pains and more serious stuff, too. I never thought I had a sense of humour because I never got it when people were taking the p*** out of me, but you and others have convinced me that I do.
Sixteen was not a particularly happy time for me, but I imagine my self physically like I was when I was about 21. 6 ft 1 and 11 stone. Sadly, I am now about 18 stone due to genes and bad overeating and am paying the consequences with type 2.
On the other hand I once lost 45 pounds plus in a couple of months due to severe depression and I don't recommend that as a weight loss method.
The plus is, while I haven't lost weight in five years, I have only put on a few pounds. And you only live once.

Colin, i must have become a true West Ozzie! I constantly criticise the State, but really love it.

I like Freo better than Perth as the heritage has been preserved.

Working in the "Great Southern" has been an eye opener for me, especially in places like Kojonup.

We are all part of a developing heritage!

I think that you and Tec are the same height...I'm just a short ar*e at 5' 7" however, I share your type 2!
