Janet - when dementia was taking over my dad's memories I made a "memory" album for him of all the photos of his parents and siblings, aunties etc. He would look through the photos and tell us things we had never known. My brother would quickly scribble down notes because we knew when dad was gone the stories would be gone too. My dad always talked about his family and we always knew our grandparents and great grandparents names including maiden names. It made things easier to get started on the family history. When dad would look through the album he would tell us little things such as his father being known as Charlie not Charles and about going to tea with his maiden aunts - one who was very strict and one who was very gentle and would spoil him with cream cakes and sweets. I actually have a birthday card from these two great aunts who were quite elderly at that time. Apparently they loved having my mother and I around for afternoon tea. I also found out that I knew other relatives that had previously been names on the family tree. Of course I don't remember them - only my grandfathers and my grandmother.

Good morning/evening all

It is becoming difficult to know who is on and when, and I don't help matters by popping on the Thread at odd times, but you all know who you are so I shall conent myself with a "Greetings to all"

We have heaps of old phots and I really must get around to labelling them before I forget who they are of. I have two old ones of my grandfather Clifford and one oh his family taken sometime between 1928 and 1930.

I also heve a few of my maternal grandmother with, possibly, one of my maternal grandfather

When I was younger I was very interested in photography, and bought bulk slide film and processed the films myself.

I have many hundreds of slides which I want to scan onto disc

Hi, Allan - hope you are well.

If you ask Mac he'll give you a website that shows the work he has done on old aircraft. It's very interesting. I think he also works at the York Air Museum. I think he's in his early 70's

Good Morning Allan - Sir,

Hope you're as bright as a button this morning.
You are obviously very clever to scan slides onto disc, I cannot do anything like that, but when Berona get here in her capacity as IT Consultant, no doubt she will teach me a thing or two,

I am 68 years old, and I don't care, as mentally I feel 48, just a bit slower that's all.

I don't know for sure Dianne - just a few things he has said. I know he's not what I'd call elderly which to me is 80 onwards. Hope that doesn't offend anyone:-)))

Allan Report 28 Oct 2009 21:35

Tec, no not clever. I'll scan them into the computer first and then burn them to a disk.

I backed up all my current photos on the computer onto a DVD a few days ago. At first I tried an ordinary copy command but kept getting an error message. After that I used a disk-burning programme I have called "Nero" and that did it.

As a bonus I discovered that we could view the pics on the disk using our DVD player so no we can see them on TV!

Good Evening Linda,

It may have escaped your notice, but I have, more than once, refferred to you as "young lady" in my post.

My age is the reason I can apparently no longer spell, which is very worrying as I was once good at it.

we had shed loads of rain last night, but it was a lovely day today. OH went down to the allotment to do some digging, he likes digging, he keeps saying that anyway. After I did a bit of housework, I had a walk down and picked yet more sprouts and some leeks. There are also some Chrysanthemum plants which are full of flowers,so I picked a huge arm full and have them in the house and gave some to the neighbour.

On the local news, it was showing pictures of this day last year, when it was snowing. Apparently it is the mildest October since the records began.
