Oh my gosh sorry Berona - I let the day go by without wishing you a Happy one - I would like to do one of those clever little drawings on here but am a bit of a dummy. I can do it on a word document and then when I transfer it - well it's now worth looking at.

Hope you had a very enjoyable day and that the weather was kind to you and that you had lots of goodies and thoroughly were pampered. Once past 39...... well it's all a down hill slippery slope but enjoy the ride.

Been to the dump today am back now, so before dinner I thought I would sneak in whilst everyone is asleep so I can talk about trolley buses - yeah I know they were the topic several pages ago. Our last trolley bus in Auckland with fare paying passengers was in September 1980. But wait there's more:
Wellington has never stopped having a trolley bus service but some of the buses were getting old and what is termed the "new generation" trolley buses started either last month or this month.
So I will be able to play on them when I am down there visiting my daughter and her husband. I am dead chuffed about that.

I'm so glad you believed me when I said I was 39, Perse - nobody else did!
I was in the middle of commenting on crochet to Barbra, when my phone and door both rang at the same time. By the time I got back - everyone had gone!

Barbra - I made blankets from crocheted squares years ago and they are still being used in the family's caravans. They are very warm. I became so interested in making them that I began buying wool when the scraps ran out, and that left me with lots more scraps.....After the wrists became affected with arthritis, I had to give it away, but still managed to knit - so that was the next novelty and I've made a few of them as extra blankets when the grandchildren have friends sleeping over. Again, I became so interested in mixing the colours, that I began buying wool again!! Haven't done much over the last couple of years though.

When I say I can remember trams and trolley buses in Sydney - people look at me like I must be over 100!
Not quite!...I was very young when we travelled on trams in the city of Sydney...At that time we lived in the Rockdale/Bexley area and we could get a tram from Rockdale to Brighton-le-Sands, where we went swimming in the shark-proof area - and we could also travel on a trolley bus from Rockdale to Kogarah. When I went back there a few years after leaving the district - they were all gone.

I've travelled on a tram in San Francisco and it was a hair-raising experience whenever they made a stop in those streets which are so famous for being hilly. The driver was in the front working the gears whilst the conductor (built like a wrestler and using arms and legs) put all his strength into pulling the brake on! This happened each time the tram stopped. Made us think of what might happen to us if he wasn't as strong as he was!

Now about those photos, my Grandma looks really frighting, not a smile in sight..Ive been told by my Mum that she was really strict, Mum couldn't have a boyfriend until she met my Dad..that's when my grandfather intervened, the rest as they say is history and a long soppy story!! (my mother was 27!!)
The photo of my Mother, yes you can defininatley(sp) see my siblings and I, she had jet black curly hair though, where as mine is dark brown and dead straight.

Getting old photos and finding out what your ancestors were like, is a wonderful experience.

My mother's cousin did the family tree for Mum's mother's family and gave me a copy for a present. Another of their cousins died soon after her son married the youngest sister of my Dad. Their children never saw their grandmother, and grew up without knowing what she looked like. When they told me this last year, I looked up my book and found a photo of their grandmother and her sister and took copies for them. I felt quite thrilled to find it and I suppose that is nothing to how they felt when they saw it.

I also went to the area where my ancestors lived and bought a book on the pioneers of the district - and found photos of my great grandparents in it! I had never seen a photo of them before. It's a great feeling.

That was a shocker, Allan - but it did make me smile.

Is our Alison a character or what? You are such a cheeky madam, my girl.

Berona hope you had a great day - I can see you are very special to your family and I can see why.

It's nice to see everyone drop in just like old friends stopping by for a quick cuppa and natter.

It certainly is a great feeling and to be able to put a picture to a name, that's priceless. I was in tears to finally see my Grandparents!!
It makes them feel real!!

I have the most wonderful photos of ancestors. My most precious ones are of my paternal great grandparents surrounded by their many children with my grandfather perched on his dads knee. The other one is of my grandparents standing by their garden gate and my grandma is pregnant with my dad or uncle. She died when my dad was only 10. I have another photo of my grandmother and I look very like her. I've been very lucky with contacts through this site who have sent me loads of photos. At times I feel guilty because I've not always been able to return the favour. When the 1911 census came out I bought a load of credits as a belated Christmas present. I then sent any info. I found from the census returns to various people. I really felt I was returning the favour.

Hello Sue,
Sorry for the rant the other night. I was going to say something really nice about last Sunday's seven bridges walk but it's a bit late now.
I didn't do the walk, fortunately considering how wet it was, and 25 km is a bit far for me. Not to mention the hills at Drummoyne and Rozelle. The rest would be a doddle. A bit at a time.
I have walked across three of them and driven over all of them.
