Alison, my apologies. I was just getting a cup of coffee.

I'm fine....much better than Saturday when I had a touch of, ahem, tummy touble!! We still managed to go out in the evening for the meal but then I had to come home whilst OH went back to join in the celebrations.

(My daughter's, partner's mother was 60)

It must be something to do with that age cos on my 60th the same thing happened!

Hi Alison. I'd love to go and live in Queensland. We've had temps like that over the last week or two, but because it rained last night, we only expect 20 to-day. Too big a drop!
If I don't get in to my treadmill soon, I'm going to start shivvering!

Yes, Tec, we have air con. We got it put in after I got my breast cancer - I find the heat unbearable. I love the cold! *shakes head in bewilderment at Berona*

I nearly missed that post!

Tec: The Moreton Bay bug also known as the Bay lobster, found throughout the waters of Australia's north coast. It is a relatively expensive delicacy served in many restaurants in Queensland but we get them here in restaurants in NZ They are very meaty and delicious. Don't think their sea-legs/claws would traverse the rose garden. We get aphids here and they are a real rose pest.

Trout are fairly plentiful here but you can only get one from a friend who has been fishing or at a restaurant - they are not in the fish shops - for a nation that is surrounded by sea our fish shops are not exactly brimful with variety. The last time I had trout was at a 21st held on a Marae and they had cooked all the food in the hangi and the venison and trout were superb. They did not go in for pavlovas etc for pudding it was steamed ginger pud and custard. We had a great night - every time anyone got up to make a speech there would be a waiata (Maori song). When we filed into the hall for our meal the guitars were playing and we were sung to our tables.

Fidgeting probably has two ts when you are doing a lot of it Allan.

We have some selection of NZ fishin WA. It goes in cycles: at the moment we can get frozen Flounder which apart from not having red spots is identical to English Plaice. A few years ago we were able to purchase a fish which was very similar to Dover Sole

Do Dover Sole originate from Kent?

I ask this because a lot of my ancestry harks from Kent.

Persephone...I'm not sure how the common name originated but whilst I was doing fish inspection at Grimsby on the East Coast of the UK quite a bit of Dover Sole was landed which was caught in the North Sea.

It was a premium fish and very expensive.

In NZ a lot of people know Grimsby because of Austin Mitchell.
He wrote a book about us here before he became an MP called
'Half Gallon Quarter Acre Pavlova Paradise'
He was often on our TV in the days of black and white.

Austin Mitchell was also a presenter on Yorkshire TV, one of the commercial stations at that time. he co-hosted a 'light'current affairs programme with a chap called Richard Whitely (I think that was his name)

Austin Mitchell always appeared as though he was enjoying himself

I was in Grimsby doing Port Health/Fish Inspection from 1975 until 1982 when we came out to Australia

Yes Austin Mitchell is still very popular here and quite often has a quarter of an hour spot on our National Radio (the one without any advertising) and chats to one of our presenters.

Chris Laidlaw (used to be half - back for the All Blacks many moons ago, he was a Rhodes Scholar and is quite well known in the political world) is a presenter on a Sunday mornings and I have heard him talking with him.

We have Fishery Inspectors here that travel around the coast to try and put a halt to those catching too smaller fish or going over their limit in cockles, pauas etc. They have a reality program on the TV that screens here from time to time. It is very interesting - all the excuses one hears.. and then the ones that try to get away of the human variety not the fish species.
