Hi, Pat - is it still raining in Devon? Does it ever stop? We were there last year and it rained most of the time.

I've tried to stop myself but I'm tempted from all sides. My daughter's partner owns a bookstore, our local market has loads and there is a charity stall at our local hospital with some real bargain books. So you see I can't help it:-)))

Good morning downunders, good evening Brits.
I think the advent of the working mother has helped train boys better, because their mother may not have had a lot of time to go around picking up after them....but I remember seeing my mother's family when I was very young.
My gran had four girs, then four boys, then twin girls. By the time the twins arrived, the girls were in their teens and she taught them well to be fantastic housekeepers and mothers (looking after the twins) whilst she herself went around picking up after the boys, and mopping the bathroom after each of them had showered - slopping water all over the floor!

As a result, the girls became wonderful housewives and mothers but the boys were hopeless as husbands - useless and untidy!

I saw this result when I was young and made sure that my boys didn't grow up like that. I don't say they are the best of husbands, but they sure are better than my uncles were!

"I don't need any more books" etc. etc.

I made a point of teaching my boys to make their beds and generally help around the house. Eldest son, as I said, is army trained too. Youngest is just untidy but I don't go in his room so that's his business. Whenever we've been away the place is always reasonable when we get back. He can cook and wash clothes and knows how to clean the bathroom/toilet and vaccuum. My mother had my sister and I had to take turns in washing up as we got older and we also baked and generally kept our shared room tidy. My brothers were never expected to do anything and that showed when they were married and in their own homes. They learned quickly:-))

Hello Berona, I made sure my son didn't grow up to be useless either, he is an excellent cook and now he lives with his girlfriend, he has shown that he is perfectly capable of keeping the flat nice and clean. He didn't show much interest while he was at home, but he obviously took it in

It's dry here at the moment. I looked out the window.
What sort of stuff do you like reading?
I like the criminal stuff myself.although I'll read most things but I don't like sci-fi.
In fact I might read now. Well I have got an extra hour!

Pat, I like crime stories but I'll read most things but, like you, I don't like sci-fi or fantasy. At the moment I'm reading a book called "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". I've only just started but it looks interesting. Written by a Swedish author who has since passed away. My future son in law gave it to me.

Oh I nearly forgot about the clocks Pat
It must have poured down here overnight, judging from the amount of rain on the side of the road. It was just drizzly when I went out this morning, but was lashing down by the time I got back.I had washed my hair before I went out, but needn't have bothered, as I looked like something the cat dragged in by the time I got home again. It has rained most of the day since then.

if you were born house-trained Tec, why are you trying to recruit us all as staff?

I've just looked at my post and have discovered that I nearly mnaged to combine the words yuo should into one word.

My poort ypingis not being helped by one affectionate cat walking over the keyboard trying to gain my attention.

I am also proud to say that I created a word which has now become part of the official language of Oz, or at least West Oz.
