Hi Colin, So that's what Mrs. Chisholm was known for! Gives a new meaning to Caroline Chisholm Drive (Winston Hills). The best I can do for convict ancestors is a gr/gr/uncle who was sent to Tassie for 7 years for stealing a brass tap. Compare that to to-day's sentences! Of course, they did want to colonize the country somehow. One of my ancestors was a Redcoat; another a 'gentleman of means' (don't know what happened to his 'means' though) and the rest were just poor immigrants, some of them making a name for themselves as pioneers of the Ulladulla district.

This board seems to be busiest from 7am until 10am (our time), although we will have an extra hour tomorrow. That is the time when the other boards can get quite hot if you want to look in on them. I think the vino might have something to do with that and a few people take advantage of it and like to stir. We only had one attempt to stir this board but he went away when we ignored him.

Bananas here in NZ $2.85 to $2.99 a kilo and our $ is not worth as much as the Aussie Dollar.
Our kiwi fruit sometimes go for under a $1.00 a kilo, it is the Tamarillos that cost too much about $10.00 a kilo.

Colin, I'm not sure whether you are still on or not but my research has ground to a halt until my nephew can make a trip to the UK.

The Co. he works for has sold some vehicles to the British Army and he is the liaison person for the contract.

Basically, my paternal grandfather cannot be found before 1904 when he married my grandmother (he was 44 she was 22).

I have the marriage certificate but we can't even trace his father, whose occupation was given as coach trimmer.

from 1904 until his death in 1930, everything is recorded.

My maternal grandfather is going to be even more of a problem, my grandmother was not married to him and all I have is his surname, which both my mother and her brother took as their own, my mother just before she married my father in 1939, so she obviously knew him and he made an impression on her.

Our bananas down here are $2.99 a kilo, I love bananas and have banana sandwiches almost every day for lunch.

I bought some Kiwi fruit last week. 50cents each.

We managed to do some and at last can see a difference...less lawn and more soil. OH has been busy plating a few vegetables as well.

There is now a nice crop of potatoes growing as well as turnips, broad beans and broccoli. In fact we had some turnips last night...very tasty

Hello everyone:-)) Persey - great to see you again.

Lovely day here too. Warm with a cool breeze. We went out to buy a new DVD player today then spent the afternoon sitting out on the verandah and relaxing. Loved being with the grandkids but glad the week is over. My mother told me quite sharply today that I've had my time looking after small children and that we shouldn't have been expected to look after the grandkids. I told her - equally sharply I'm afraid - that we weren't "expected" to. Our daughter is very undemanding and discussed us looking after the children for awhile before we all planned for the week away. I suspect what she really meant was that she felt neglected.

Tec I do hope the Duchess is improving by the day and that you also are more rested.

Colin I also hope that your lady has a restful weekend and the antibiotics do their job.

As always it's good to read everyone's posts - it gives a wonderful insight into our daily lives and I feel we are getting to know each other well. Of course you all realise that I'm really 25 y.o. tall, slim and incredibly good looking - at least in my dreams:-)))

We are off out to a local Chinese to celebrate my daughter's partner's mother's 60th birthday (I hope that I put all the apostrophes in the proper place) but first we are meeting at the mother's house, which is virtually just around the corner from us at 5:00pm.

Allan I am very impressed at how your crops are growing.We still have some turnips left on the allotment, plus millions of Brussel Sprouts.

If you have a brick wall with your tree Allan, would you like me to have a look for you? I have subscriptions to everything under the sun.I will probably fail miserably, but I did manage to knock Sue's brick wall down and now she is back another couple of generations. Send me the details if you would like to.

Berona, how do you store your bananas? Mum liked bananas, she used to put them straight into the vegetable bin inside the fridge, then take one out the day before she was going to use it. They lasted much longer than just keeping them in a fruit bowl.

Hello Sue - you have given me the courage to admit that I am having a birthday. My youngest grandson was 3 yesterday and I will be 39 next week!

We are having a family barbecue tomorrow at my daughter's place so I hope the rain holds off. There's plenty of shelter if it does rain, but it would be much nicer without it.

I'm waiting for someone to do the calculations.

Linda, I don't bother much, and usually just put them in a bowl, but sometimes, if I buy more than half a dozen, I will put them in the fridge crisper drawer, but it doesn't seem to stop them from going brown.

Ive heard if you wrap your bananas in foil before storing them in the refrigerator, they are supposed to last longer. Ive not tried this myself, because bananas go really fast here!!

Dear Berona you were obviously a child bride:-)) I hope tomorrow is a nice day and you enjoy yourself with your family.

We have a fine crop of vegies in the garden - cabbage and cauliflower well on their way. We are eating fresh lettuce leaf by leaf and will be eating silverbeet soon. I'm also expecting fresh tomatoes for Christmas as they are also growing at an amazing rate. We are paying about $3.00 a kilo for bananas and we go through a lot. The strawberries were so cheap awhile back but they've gone up in price and we don't have any in the garden yet.
