To answer Barbra's question re birds. Allan is on the west coast of Australia - I am on the east coast - and we don't really have birds which attack, although our Magpies can attack us if they think we are too close to their nest. They are harmless if they don't have young ones.

When my children were small, I would walk to the local shop, pushing the youngest in a stroller. I always had to put the shade over the stroller when I went past certain trees because my little fellow was snowy blonde, so I mostly made sure he wore a hat. The birds didn't bother the other children, but didn't seem to like blondes....Another time I was in my car at a red light and saw two cars stopped opposite. A boy on a bike skimmed in beside them and stopped at the light and removed his cap. He too, was very blonde - and out of the trees from the opposite side of the road, came a magpie, which swooped on him and pecked his head as it kept going. From where I was, on the opposite side of the intersection, I could see the blood on the boy's hair. Fortunately, it was just a quick peck and not serious, but it must have hurt!

Sorry I disappeared this morning. The phone started ringing and then I needed to make a couple of phone calls and that was it. By the time I came back on you were all gone. Never mind - as always you do very well without me:-))

Alison you didn't come on this morning. I'm thinking of you and I will keep my fingers crossed for tomorrow.

It has been the funniest of days weather-wise. It started out blue skies and very mild. It became overcast by mid-morning and I brought all the washing in. Then it rained for about half an hour. Now we have the blue skies back but it's so windy and cold. I do wish the weather would settle down and decide what it wants to do.

Just popped in before going to get something to eat.

It has been sunny but very windy here to-day. I walked out in sunshine to go to my mailbox (I've counted - 70 steps there and 70 steps back - for want of something better to do!) and whilst checking the box, the clouds blew over and I walked back through a shower! Of course, it stopped when I got to my front door....My luck!...Hasn't rained since and right now, it's quite hot but the wind has calmed..

Sue and Berona, that was the expected cold front. All over bar the shouting now, I think. It was just all front and no substance. It was "raining" as I went out from work to pick up some monitoring equipment but had stopped by the time I got there. I had been regretting that I had not taken my spray jacket (this is a very light weight polyester material that I scrunch up and carry in my backpack. It is more or less resistant to rain and helps protect against the wind, too.)
I am now going to look at my hot matches, but I suspect it will be the usual mixture of people born in the wrong country, and ones I already know about. I will be only very distant related to the tree owners. But hope springs eternal. It was through hot matches that I found a Maguire rellie and one of my OH's distant cousins.

Hi, Colin. I've had some wonderful contacts through the Hot Matches. I found a second cousin I didn't know about and met him for the first time when we went to the UK last year. His grandfather was the brother of my grandfather. I've been able to share a lot of information with relatives and the best thing of all is the photos that have been sent to me. In return I have been able to share certificates. On the other hand I happen to have an Elizabeth Brown and a Thomas Williams in my tree and I get matches for every Elizabeth Brown and Thomas Williams that were born in England and Wales.

Part of my mother's maternal line originated in Devon and they were a very large and very well researched family with descendants spread throughout the world. Through GR a large number of us begun to compile a very extensive family tree - each of us researching our own branch and then connecting it up. We shared a few photos and many certificates so that all our work was well documented and proven. All of us could trace our individual families back to my 6 x greatgrandparents.

I do ramble on when talking about the family history:-)))

Good morning everyone.

I didn't appear last night because my back was aching,so I went to bed early to watch TV.

I had spent half the day emptying my mums loft. She lived in a dormer bungalow,so for the latter years when she couldn't climb stairs,all the room she needed were on the ground floor. There are,however two further bedrooms and a shower room upstairs, ideal for when my sister came to stay, or the grand kids stayed over. From the upstairs landing area, there are two small doors which give access to a large amount of storage space in the eaves. My father had all sorts stored in there. We have been emptying it slowly, but yesterday I cracked the back of it. There are just a few things still to remove, but my knees and back were aching from prolonged crawling around,so I called it a day.

OH valiantly emptied the garage and removed the millions of shelves my father need to keep all his clutter. He made three trips to the local tip with the car packed to the gunnels with junk

It sounds like the house is empty, but it isn't, we have left all the things which may be of use to the family and will go through them later on once the house is sold.

Speaking of which, you can't market a house now without one of the new fancy HIP packs,so I forked out another £320 this morning to pay for one of them. So far it seems to consist of me going to a website and filling out long tedious forms,doing the work for them.

Oh Tec, my chest infection is starting to clear up thanks, though I still have a lovely cough. Incidentally the Lynda who also comes on this thread spells her name with a .Y in it, whereas mine is Linda with an I, so that is how you can tell us apart.

Alison, if we don't speak before tomorrow, I will be keeping everything crossed for you

Colin, I know what you mean about the hotmatches, I have had some dreadful mismatches with people of different names and years of births and in different countries

I had my echocardiogram today and I'm doing well on that front apparently. I'm a bit anxious about tomorrow. I'm hoping that if my liver cancer has started to grow again, that it's doing it slowly, like last time and I can have an extended break between chemos. If not - well - I can do it. I was "Brunged" up in the bush and I'm quite tough!!! But with any luck (and much praying to recently departed Dad), things are stable. I have been known to Pray and ask my ancestors whom I am researching to please get a working bee going on my behalf!!

Hi, Linda. What a job but it has to be done. Hope you're not finding it too difficult. When my dad died my mother got rid of his things almost immediately. I found that a little difficult to cope with at the time but I do realise it was her way of coping. Of course she didn't have to clean out the house to sell but I'm know we'll have the same job when the time comes and I dread it. I hope you get rid of that cough before long - make sure you go back to the doctors if it lingers so the infection doesn't flare up again.

Good whatever it is wherever you are,

Well we went for our flu jabs today, so will now wait to see if the bug gets us. I think I have only ever had proper flu once in my life. In bed for a week, and felt very ill indeed. Many people say they have flu, but more often than not it's a heavy cold. Proper flu is something else not to be forgotten.

This afternoon was beautiful again, sunny, warm, still. So we went for a walk through the wooded grounds of what was once a huge country estate, belonging to the aristocracy. The magnificent hall that was once there is now gone, but the grounds are fascinating. Little footpaths through the ancient trees, leading to the stone ruins of estate buildings., including a remarkably well preserved, and very impressive stone built dovecot. The old ivy covered stone walls just wreaked history and atmosphere. Truly a magical place - absolutely deserted.

Linda.......Sorry I thought it was you I was talking to yesterday. The other Lynda must have thought I was very forward. What a good job I wasn't cheeky, as I am to you sometimes. After all, you know that I'm insane, but possibly the other Lynda doesn't. Oh well.

Hello, Tec and everyone else:-)) Your walk sounds lovely - I'm glad you and your Duchess enjoyed the sun together. I've just been "speaking" to my cousin in Leeds and he says the weather has been warm and sunny - quite unseasonable for October. It looks nice over here at the moment but that doesn't mean a lot. It looked good yesterday and I think we had all seasons in one day.

Tomorrow afternoon we go over our daughter's place for a week to look after the children while my girl has a well deserved break. She rarely manages time away from the children so we are happy to give her the chance to relax. I'll pop in whenever I get the chance although I'm sure the children will keep us busy. They are well-behaved children but as all little ones are quite demanding. We'll need a holiday ourselves by the time she gets home. In fact we are hoping to get away for awhile in November. We haven't decided where to go but a driving holiday sounds good.

Lynda - with a "y" - wouldn't have been in the least bit offended if you were cheeky, Tec. She's great fun and would've given you just as much cheek back:-)))
