Tec, Kalgoorlie is in the North Eastern Goldfields of WA, about 700 kms NE of Perth. I've not been there for about 20 years but I have fond memories of the place.

Leonora, where I first worked on coming over to OZ is about 200 kms further north.

Please folks, no offence intended, but the famous brothels were well known as a tourist spot. One has now been turned into a Museum!

When we visited from Leonora my OH and myself would often walk down Hay Street and have a chat with the girls...I never knew anyone who actually visited them for their intended purpose!

Diane, I don't think I knew that about the Captain Pugwash author. I love all the old children's shows. My daughter is quite good and the children only watch shows like Wiggles and others with lots of singing and dancing. It's good for my grand-daughter's co-ordination. The boys like Thomas and Bob the Builder. My grandson in Hobart watches Ben10 and Spiderman but I don't like them very much. I was put off a little when he told me he played a PlayStation game and he killed the baddie by throwing him in a fire. No good for a 5 y.o. in my opinion.

Sue, the funny thing is that when we were young we were subjected to violence in cartoons etc. I'm thinking of the Road Runner Tom and Jerry etc where characters were constantly being blown up, run over by trains etc but as kids we never gave it a second thought.

Hopefully, with the modrn interactive games, kids will still maintain the same detachment

That's the problem with some of the new one's, the kid's think it is the norm to play game's with violence in them. Mind you there are those who would say are old game cowboy's and indian's was a violent game to play, I suppose it was

Yes Sue, at least in WA

I have my own one man business as a Consultant Environmental Health Officer.

If a Council wants to utilise my service all that is required is the approval of the Heath Dept of WA, and as I have worked in various EH positions, and am on the Dept's own list of available Officers, that is only a formality

I also assume that I could work throughout Australia with the necessary approvals.

The funny thing is that my UK qualifications are only recognised by law in Victoria. However after 27 years working in EH in Oz I wouldn't anticipate too many problems

Well that's a good point Allan and Diane. I remember years ago visiting a friend who told me that she wouldn't allow her boys to play with toy guns and swords. I looked out the window to see her two boys with sticks having a "sword" fight. So they had obviously improvised.

Don't know what my day will be like, but I slept later than usual - then booted my computer, no problems, but then found text messages on my phone and emails in my inbox dealing with a contentious issue here in the villa complex - then, I had to catch up on quite a few pages of this thread - YOU have been busy too!

Welcome back Allan. Tec will be breathing a sigh of relief. Your mention of the museum was interesting - just exactly what do they exhibit???? I wonder if it is the same kind of exhibit that our guide wouldn't take the ladies to see in one of the buildings in Pompeii?

No Sue, we didn't get any thunderstorm. In fact, my courtyard pavers are dry as a bone and the sun is just coming on there now. Maybe what Allan said applies to this place. He said it didn't rain much on the goldfields. So maybe I am living on a gold field!

I think that when I was young we played with toy guns, swords etc, and we didn't really think of the significence. However, now that we have aquired a gun and knife culture in our towns and cities, it is no longer acceptable.
Replica guns are not allowed by law in the UK as far as I know. Carrying a knife is also an offence.
