Allan,
That roofer was obviously a relative of yours, going out in the moonlight repairing roof's...........is this called moonlighting?
I waited three months for that guy to come, this house is very high, and according to Health & Safety Regs, he should erect scaffolding, but he just goes up a huge ladder - I can't watch, no head for heights.

Allan, It is so long since we had that kind of contractor around here. These days, they spend most of their time talking, telling us how lucky we are that we called them when we did, or it would have been a bigger job by next week! Also, they tell us how efficient they are and what a good deal they are doing for you - then they do the job in half the time expected and want payment immediately and we often find later that the job is only half-done!

Good morning Berona

Tec, I just saw your post before signing off

We have a two storey house and any work above the ground floor is also supposed to involve scaffolding.

We recently had our gutters replaced with the contractor working down from the roof. No scaffolding!!

And now it really is time to go

Hello - sorry I left you all after my initial post. I've become lost in a website I found quite by accident. It's a site full of old London maps, engravings of old churches and "street" characters as well as many articles about the history of London. As I have mentioned OH's paternal ancestors were Londoners - some were quite prosperous. I've found a map with a detailed drawing of Jamaica Row (Road) where some ancestors lived. It actually shows the houses they lived in - or at least where they were situated on the road with the houses numbered. Very exciting.

Berona,
We have lots of those kind around here. I'm afraid I've learnt the hard, and expensive way, but am more wary now.
Anyone any good is in great demand, so you have to wait your turn. The cowboys can come tomorrow of course.

Bye Allan - we'll miss you:-))

We've recently had new blinds installed on our two front windows. We had one company come in who was not at all friendly and acted as though we had the worse windows in the history of mankind. She measured the lounge window 3 times clucking her tongue and shaking her head. I also had the nerve to ask if there were any "specials" available. The second company rep. was very pleasant. He measured the windows without comment. I asked if the windows were ok and he said yes. He helped me choose a good colour and he told me of the specials without me asking. He got the business although the quote was more than the first one. Even the young man who fitted the blinds was very nice.

Sue,
That sounds wonderful, yes it is exciting to find such detail applicable to OH ancestors - I expect you will spend hours on that site.

I so wish I could get down to the Vale of Glamorgan to get photo's of the farms my maternal ancestors owned, there are about six in all, also to do research in the churches where they were all baptised, married, and buried. I am simply bursting to get to stay at the one that now is on the internet..........maybe one day.

Goodnight, Diane - I hope things look brighter in the morning.

Tec, the Vale of Glamorgan sounds so beautiful. OH has ancestors from Wales - he has a very diverse background. I'll look up where they were from and you may know the area.

Even though I am looking out, I can't see any rain. However, my cat just came in and walked past me. I ran my hand down her back as she passed - and YUK! It's raining! Had to go and give her a rub with a towel and wash my hands!

This light rain is so annoying. It doesn't get to the back of the garden and there isn't enough of it to seep from the front to the back. It keeps us inside too and I love to be out in the fresh air. To-day is the second of a three-day weekend and so far, we've had rain on both days! So much for Spring! We had drier weather in Winter!

Sue,
Yes, I would be interested to know of OHs Welsh ancestry,
I may know the area.
I'm currently teaching someone on the internet to speak Welsh,
that's interesting!

Well as it's past the midnight hour, I must go to bed, and I want to be up at six am to watch the Formula 1 Grand Prix,
so my friends, enjoy your Sunday, take care

Goodnight
Tec.
