Berona it's raining here too. Just lightly. It always amazes me what silly things people do on the roads when it's raining.

OH is car hunting so I'll have the house to myself for a while. I hate looking around car yards and usually OH has had a good look on the internet before he actually goes out and test drives. He then brings the car home for me to have a good look and if I like it then he does the wheeling and dealing. Very painless especially as I don't really care what we get as long as it's not an enormous 4 wheel drive or a car that's hard to park. I think we'll be getting one of those smaller 4 wheel drives.

I must get on with my day. Aussies, have a great day and Diane sleep tight. You sound so much happier.

Have a good day, Carole

Berona, I do not know the reason why we celebrate the Queen's birthday so late but I do think that both West and East should come into line.

'Bye Sue

I must also go. I have to go into Bunbry and restock my medication, and OH wants to go 'shopping'

Take care in the rain

Carole - a good downpour for a whole day would do nicely thankyou. This drizzle is hardly enough to water the plants, but enough to slick the roads - not good at all. Enjoy your day.

Now, I have a few things to catch up on, so must go, even though I just got here! - but I'll be popping in occasionally, between other activities. That sounds good, doesn't it? I don't do very much really - and a lot of what I do is done on the computer anyway!

Just found this poem...

DEAR ANCESTOR:

YOUR TOMBSTONE STANDS AMONG THE REST

NEGLECTED AND ALONE

THE NAME AND DATE HAVE WORN OFF

THE WEATHERED MARBLE STONE

IT REACHES OUT TO ALL WHO CARE.

IT'S NOW TOO LATE TO MOURN

YOU DID NOT KNOW THAT I'D EXIST

YOU DIED....AND I WAS BORN

YET EACH OF US ARE CELLS OF YOU

IN FLESH, IN BLOOD, IN BONE.

OUR HEARTS CONTRACT AND BEAT A PULSE

ENTIRELY NOT OUR OWN

DEAR ANCESTOR, THE PLACE YOU FILLED

SOME HUNDRED YEARS AGO

SPREADS OUT AMONG THE ONES YOU LEFT

WHO WOULD HAVE LOVED YOU SO

I WONDER HOW YOU LIVED AND LOVED.

I WONDER IF YOU KNEW

THAT SOMEDAY I WOULD FIND THIS PLACE

AND COME TO VISIT YOU

Carole - I love that poem. I couldn't help thinking of my great grandparents as I read it. Their home, now heritage listed, is used as a restaurant and where they were buried has been cleared - even the church has gone - but in the corner of the church property is a walled section dedicated to the pioneers of the district, with plaques which have the names which were taken off the removed headstones. Some of their grandchildren's names are there also..

I had dinner at the restaurant on both occasions that I have been there - and felt that I was back there again, in their home, whilst I read that poem. I will c & p it and keep it. Thank you for posting it.

Just a flying good morning from me,after I have read the posts I missed last night. I am not a night owl and once it gets to about 11pm, I need to go to bed. Of course yesterday i had been there since about 7pm and only got up to turn the computer off.

My brother is arriving soon,so we can go to another couple of banks and sign on the dotted line. I could do without this, especially as I will be spreading germs around, but we must get the executor account set up and as he still works, Saturday is an easier day for him.

Oh Sue, I meant to thank you for your card, It was very kind of you, my brain is not very co ordinated these days.

Linda you are very welcome - just wanted you to know I'm thinking of you.

Carole that is a lovely poem. I have another good one that I'll put up when I find it. I hope you get back to your birthplace. I've done that a few times and it's a very moving experience.

It's been quite cold and wet today. I stayed inside most of the day and sorted out all the research I've done over the last few weeks. I was able to put most of it into my family tree program. I've sourced some photos of churches in London where OH's ancestors were hatched, matched and dispatched and OH spent some time printing them for me. I do scrapbooking as a way of telling our families' stories.

Good morning/evening all. Where is everyone? Diane's the only one who's ventured on here.

It's pouring here and very welcome. It'll give the poor lawns a good drink and won't hurt OH's veggie garden. A bit miserable for a long weekend. Youngest son isn't too happy. He worked yesterday (Sat), will be working Monday and his day off today is miserable.

Carole I too have a lovely poem for genealogists.

A FAMILY HISTORY POEM

I saw behind me those who had gone and before me those who were to come,
I looked back and saw my father and his father and all our fathers
and in front to see my son and his son and the sons upon sons and beyond,
And their eyes were my eyes.
As I felt, so they felt, and were to feel, as then, so now,
as tomorrow and for ever.
Then I was not afraid, for I was in a long line
that had no beginning, and no end,
and the hand of his father grasped my fathers hand,
and his was in mine, and my unborn son took my right hand
and all up and down the line that stretched from time that was,
to time that is, and is not yet,
raised their hands to show the link.

Good Morning/Evening Everyone,

It has been a cold wet day here, with gale force winds. The first gale of the season. The sea was very rough, covered in "white horses", and crashing up the beach onto the rocks in white spray. I normally enjoy such a day down at the beach, but didn't feel like it today. So instead I shut myself in my room where all my books are kept, over 1,000. The intention was to sort them out, as they are in a bit of a muddle, but instead found myself sitting on the floor, reading them. Not much sorting got done.

Diane....Hi, I am sorry that you feel like running away. Can't you bring your time off forward. Explain how you feel to your employer. Is there a relative or friend you could visit for a few days for a change of scenery? You need to set some time aside for yourself - I hope you can some how.

Sue....Lovely poem, I shall copy it if I may, Carole's was very good too. I have many poetry books in my collection.

Tec.

Good morning/evening everyone

Nice Poems....which, I suppose, is where the notion of everlasting life has its genesis

It's Telethon weekend here in WA, and even the PM is over here. There must be an election somewhere as the Feds donated $1.5m to the cause. Last year over $6m was raised

G'Day Allan,

I take it Telethon is a national charity fund raising event? We have similar things here.
Yes, I like stormy weather - it's nice to walk on the beach, with the right clothes on. I find it very calming and relaxing somehow. Strange man.

Allan Report 3 Oct 2009 22:56

Hello to Berona and Diane

Tec, Telethon is a WA event, although some other states do have something similar.

The event raises funds for Princess Margaret Hospital which is the major children's hospital in WA, and money is also channelled to the Telethon Institute which is a research body investigating childhood diseases.

Many Eastern States celebrities fly over for the event

Good Morning Berona,

So, we have both got grotty weather. Oh well. I had a man up on the roof yesterday - I had a slate missing - No Allan, dont! Wanted the roof checked out before the real winter storms arrive, we really do get some horrendous gales here in the winter.

Diane, that's awful, but if you get ill because of stress, they will simply have to make alternative arrangements.

Allan Report 3 Oct 2009 23:14

OK, Tec I wont!

But it does remindme of when we lived in Bollington in Cheshire. Usually, in the first storm of winter we would loose a tile from the roof. We'd phone a local builder to fix it: next morning after the call, but before we were out of bed we would hear someone scrambling on the roof. Tile replaced; a day or two later a bill would arrive which we duly paid by cheque. Over the few years that this happened we never ever once saw the builder!
