Goodnight Tec.

Have fun at the council, Allan.

We have just had a bird kamikaze into the window. I expect it will need "tweetment" also. (had to get that in before Allan, Tec and Colin did!)

Good Morning Janet,

Have a good day.

Stay beautiful!!

Thank you Alison, for that explanation. Sometimes I feel so ignorant, so I like to be able to understand what is happening to people.

Yes, medical science is always zooming ahead. When I see people recovering from cancer, I am so thankful for this. When I was first married, I watched my friends' little boy going up and down with leukemia for 14 months until he succumbed at age 7. He might have lived with the modern treatment and would be in his fifties. Things like this make me very interested in treatment.

Must go. Off to the docs to get my form filled in!

I had better toddle off also. The husband tells me he hasn't any clean socks left - suppose one should wash them then - or maybe go shopping and just buy new ones? decisions decisions!

Good night Brits
Have a good day Aussies and Kiwis.

Good luck with your forms Berona.

Good whatever it is everyone.

I have only just read the last few pages, but there were many before that which I have not read. Maybe one day I will have time to read through them.

I would like to thank everyone for their good wishes. I would especially like to thank Allan, Berona, Sue and Tec for all the support which they have given me "behind the scenes", they have really helped me through this difficult time.

It seems an eternity since mum died, but it was only early on Saturday morning, but the funeral is not until l next Tuesday. After dad died four years ago, there was a lull before the funeral so we had time to catch our breaths, but this time, it has been non stop. I am surrounded by piles of documents and the letters are coming in thick and fast from all the various organisations, they all need dealing with.

Plus I have been returning the house to some sort of normality before the funeral as people will need to stay there. The various authorities were brilliant at instantly supplying an electric bed, oxygen machine etc, so that we could bring her home for the last couple of days. Unfortunately they have not been so quick at collecting it again. I made a special plea for the bed to be removed because that was very distressing to see and they did come for that yesterday.

I had hardly slept for the week before, but have now had a couple of reasonable nights, so feel less like a zombie. The worst thing is that my sister had a flu bug and she has passed it on to OH and me.I am burning hot, my throat has been sandpapered, I have a racking cough which is making my ribs hurt and my head is full of cotton wool. I would normally take to my bed, but I can't as there is so much to do, so I am working on the principal that if I just take some tablets and ignore it, it will go away.

Today I am not going to mums, but will have to go and buy something to wear for the funeral.Since I stopped working, I have stopped wearing smarter clothes and reverted to more casual wear. Unfortunately I have also put on weight, so can't fit in to the few suits etc I kept.

Oh by the way, I thought Aussie fairies were called Quantas stewards?

(OK, I will remove that if it offends, but two of my close friends are gay and they would think it was funny)

Allan Report 1 Oct 2009 09:55

Linda, no need to remove the reference to some of the Qantas staff..I think that many airlines would be the same..as would many hospitals etc: a much maligned but a much needed group!

I do hope that our thoughts have brought some comfort to you and your family and please believe me that you will always be with us in spirit.

At times like these I wish I had been born under another sign other than Pisces, but I really can empathise with your situation.

Take care, and remain strong....very difficult advice to follow I know, but please remember you did everything that your mum would have wished

Kindest Regards

Allan

Hi Linda. Good to see you taking time to post on here. Buy yourself a nice outfit so that you will feel comfortable on Tuesday and after that, I hope you will relax (and maybe take to your bed!). Things can wait then, until you feel up to sorting them out. Just get yourself right first.

Looking forward to talking to you more on here soon.

So many threads with the same sort of messages.

I just wish every one well!

Well as I suspected, no way can I get into the suit which i wore for dad's funeral.

Note to self "You will start that diet soon"

So I am off to buy something suitable but usable afterwards. I used to be so smart at work, I wore suits, in my day we were not even allowed to wear trousers in school. that changed just before I stopped working, but it never really seemed right to me.

Nowadays, i am more likely to be found in a pair of jeans and my mother would not approve of that as funeral attire!

I saw the thread about Jean, I hope that she will pull through, it does seem to be the season for bad news

Berona

Berona Report 1 Oct 2009 11:22

Yes, Linda, it's not good news about Jean and our Alison has had more than her share of it too. One thing all of these people have in common, I have noticed, is their wonderful spirit.

There are more on other threads, too, and I hope they can all take their strength from each other and know that they have a lot of friends here who are pulling for them.

Hello dear friends:-))

Linda..It was so wonderful to see your post tonight, brought a smile to my face a tear too!!
There is so much sadness on the boards at the moment, its really making me feel very, very sad:-(((
I was so sorry to hear that your dear mother had passed away, I offer my sincerest condolences..Now you hold her heart in yours..treasure your memories. Soon you will smile again:-))

I just had the biggest fright of my life.. my puppy got his leg caught in the spring of a trampoline, it felt like one of my children screaming out in pain.
My husband had to cut his leg free with bolt cutters (not his leg, the spring. It scared me half to death, he seems ok, Ive rung the vet..I will take him there in the morning and have him checked over.

Must go, take care all...stay beautiful.

Just a quick hello before I go to bed. Special greetings to Linda, and so sorry to hear about your mum. I think funerals are tough, but one that I remember with some fondness was my father's. He died far too young, but it was amazing to see how many people came to the funeral and introduced themselves to my sisters and I.
Alison, cancer is too common, but there are success stories. OK, not all of them are as aggressive as yours but I have a cousin who had a thyroid cancer almost 30 years ago and had her third child a couple of years later, an aunt with breast cancer 20 years ago and my GF with malignant melanoma. The last had a secondary in her armpit about 5 years ago but seems OK now. I guess we all live on edge, however.
Most recently my brother in law had a bowel cancer removed in February. Like a lot of males, he would not go to the doctor although he had had problems for a while. He is now doing well.

Good morning/evening everyone:-))

Nice to see lots of our friends posting even if that Janet person turned up just to be the 3000th post:-))

Carole I hope your little puppy is ok. I have to be honest I couldn't help a little smile at the thought of your OH frantically trying to free the puppy and you wringing your hands in despair. When my sister in law's dog was a pup she slid across a polish floor and under the banister of the stairs and landed with a thump on the stairs. She jumped straight up and bounced back up the stairs almost with a grin on her face. My SIL was in tears but we couldn't stop laughing once we realised the pup was ok.

Alison, you’ve had quite a battle but you certainly haven’t lost your sense of humour:-)) Cancer is such a funny thing. Some people have simple cancers but somehow they succumb very quickly whereas other people have aggressive multiple cancers and fight on for years and years. Berona, leukemia in children now has an 80% success rate so your friend’s little lad would probably have survived. Isn’t that the same with most illnesses and diseases? When I look at certificates and see how some of my ancestors died it seems so silly these days.

Linda it is good to hear from you. I am pleased that we have been able to give you support and we’ll continue to do so whenever you need it. When I started this thread I truly didn’t expect that we would all become firm friends.

Diane, do pop in whenever you’re up to it. It was nice to hear from you. Hope things are looking brighter.

Meant to put this up for anyone who wants to see what time it is in different time zones. Easier than trying to work it out.

Morning all

Allison...thanks, you made me smile last night. I promise I will stay as always...beautiful !!!! same as you!!!
Puppy is fine!!!! he's become such a loved member of our family, my youngest son was in tears last night and blamed himself for what had happened. we have tipped the tramp up on its side for the moment until I can have it made safer.
Sue...I wasn't wringing my hands they were busy holding on to the puppy so he wouldn't try to break free and take part of his leg off!!!

Good Morning/Evening Everyone,

Linda, How good it is to see you post on here again. I too hope that the thoughts and messages of support from your friends on here have brought you some comfort.
Hope you found what you wanted at the shops, maybe just being out will have done you good. Take care of that nasty cold, hope you and OH will feel better soon, and know that we are thinking of you.

I too went shopping today. OH decided we needed new pillows, so off we went to a recently opened store 20 miles away. Because we had the dog with us, I had to wait outside the store with the dog.
OH disappeared into the store. I waited for one and a quarter hours - 75 minutes. I was becoming concerned, when she appeared triumphant with four pillows.
Fortunately, during this time I was able to sit on a nearby seat, joined first by an elderly man who explained to me in detail, a row he was currently having with the Water Board. Then joined by a lady who insisted on relating her entire medical history - in detail. Ugh.
While this was going on, I noticed three other guys, standing about on the end of a dogs lead.
I wondered was there a social need for a creche for abandoned husbands, and the family pet? Shopping - I hate it.

Tec.
