Hi Carole.....Don't blame you for buying your f & v from somewhere other than the supermarket. I do that now and buy only once a fortnight. I find that it is still fresher after two weeks than that from the supermarket, bought weekly!

We could do with some rain. Every time it rains here, we rejoice - for less than five minutes - then it stops!

Hi Berona..

Sorry, that you aren't having much rain at the moment, you certainly needed it after your dust storm. We had one here a while back, so I understand.
I think your dust storm may have been much worse!!

I will send our rain up to you soon :-))

Driving here is strange. This being a very rural area, we tootle about, frequently not seeing another vehicle for miles - there are no traffic lights, traffic islands, dual carriageways etc. Peace lasts for six months of the year. Then in April the tourists begin to arrive, through to October. They bring their aggressive city habits with them, and are not accustomed to narrow roads. Also they are intimidated by the stone wall on either side of the narrow roads, so tend to drive in the middle of the road, as do European tourists, who are on the "wrong" side of the road as far as they are concerned. It can be alarming to go round a sharp bend, of which there are many, to find a car coming at you in the middle of the road.
Therefore in the summer months we go out with trepidation.
Likewise, when I have to go to the city, I am totally out of my depth, and am never in the right lane of traffic to get where I want to go, so causing chaos at roundabouts - I get some very strange gestures at times.

Well I have to bed now, been a busy day dismantling a huge shed for my neighbour who was widowed in April - but it helped her.

Have a good day my friends down under,
and a good night up top.

Godnight everyone.

I know what you mean about the stone walls on either side of the narrow roads, Tec. I've driven there and was constantly looking for the next gateway, etc. in fear of meeting an oncoming vehicle. We could never have passed each other! It showed me why so many people in the UK have small cars!

Good night, Tec. Sleep well.

Hi All,

Thank you, SueMaid for letting us know about Linda's Mum. I hope she knows that we are all willing to "listen" if she needs to have a "chat."

I hope Jean Durant gets some good news - I've been following the thread - hope they update us, when they learn the results.

Hot and smoky/dusty here. I have a heap of ironing to do - yuk. Had to go out this morning for my regular blood test, but first of all had to drop the 12 year old at his dad's work - he just can't be trusted to not touch things and as I have to lay down when I have my blood taken (I'm a fainter!), it's safer to not take him with me for the test. I'm having Herceptin again on Wednesday and being school holidays, my hubby will have to start work late, so that he can stay home and look after the lad while I have my treatment.

Cheerio now.

It has turned out to be very nice day - although expensive! I went to have an eye test both for my driving licence and because I am long overdue for new specs - and finished up ordering two sets (one bifocal and one full readers) to the tune of about $700!! That'll keep me quiet for a while!

However, I did manage to get something else done too. My daughter came to meet me so that she could help with the selection of the frames, and we found ourselves next door to the bank where I originally opened my accounts. Although I updated my Will last year, I had not got around to putting my daughter's signature on my accounts - so that's another "must get around to" job done and out of the way!

Hi Berona

That was a very expensive day out.
I also wear specks, my last pair cost me almost $800. I have my eyes checked every 2 years, by that time I'm usually up for a new pair not so much the lenses more the frames, I like to update. I have Myopia (short sighted) and my left eye does not work well at all. I have duel lenses for reading and distance. It took me some time to get used to them but its worthwhile!!

Today I finally ordered 2 Certificates after dilly dallying for too long, I'm so exited and pleased with myself having achieved this all on my own!!!
I cant wait to get the certs in the mail!!!

I hope everyone has had a great day down under/those across the waters wake up to a beautiful day :-)))

Thinking of you Linda :-))

Hello, people:-))

Alison - nice to hear from you. Hope you are doing well on the Herceptin. At least now you don't have to mortgage your home to get a course. Jean hears Monday or Tuesday about her scan and I'm sure the "gang" will keep us up to date. If not I'll put something on here.

Good morning everyone:-)) Hope everyone is well.

I spent a great deal of yesterday researching London ancestors on the Ancestry site. I don't what happened to the family fortune but it would seem that some OH's London lot were quite prosperous. They lived on Jamaica Road not far from the docks and had a family business as ropemakers. There is even an article from the Times in 1793 regarding these pesky ropemakers going on strike and asking for "1d per quarter on one-sixth prt to the wages now paid". Dear me, some people don't know when they're well off:-)) OH's family amongst other business owners had written to the Navy asking them to intervene. OH was highly amused as he has been a strong unionist all his working life.

Good evening morning to all,

Berona, that was one expensive day!

Sue, why didn't your OH follow in the family tradition and learn the ropes?

I know, I know...today must be one of my manic days!Threats of Thunder and hail here today. Sky beautiful and clear when I went for my walk, now grey and foreboding!

Good Morning Sue,
Hope you're bouncing about the place today. Very interesting about the Rope Makers on Jamaica Road. It is really interesting to discover what our ancestors did. I wonder how much our own makeup is influenced by what they did? Some of mine were shoe makers, as were yours I believe. I've always had an appreciation of good quality leather shoes, and have never owned a pair of trainers. The others were farmers, and I've always felt an affinity to the land, and the countryside. Interesting.
How did the AGM go?

Tec.

Hello Uzzi, Sorry about your weather - dry here for days, but dull and overcast - happy packing tommorrow - ha ha.

Allan, How strange, I have also been a bit flat for a few days, but we are going from summer into autumn, and the days are getting shorter, that usually affects me, also I am quite tired at the moment. but bouncing back.

So come on - make us laugh - or groan - whatever

Tec, it is strange and I think that the weather has something to do with it,
in fact it seems that we are in for a nasty spell of wetha.

The talk yesterday of medicals, and the cost of Berona's glasses reminded me of a recent conversation with my Doctor.

A new extension is being built on the surgery and I asked her what it was for. She told me that it was for a new Ophthalmologist so that he could do day proceedures there.....it was definitely a site for sore eyes!

Good morning/evening Tec, Allan and Uzzi:-)

Sorry you've been feeling down, Allan and I'm glad you're getting on top of it. Do we need a reason? Sometimes these moods just hit for no reason. I thought we were all a little subdued yesterday with Linda's news on our minds. We can all imagine how she is feeling at the moment.

Nice to see you Uzzi:-)

Tec, the AGM is today (Tues). The lead up was going smoothly but someone may put a spanner in the works as she feels that things may not go her way and she is frantically looking up our constitution trying to find a loop-hole. She probably won't but knowing this woman well she will certainly make things unpleasant. Grrrrrrr....some people!

I feel that I know more about OH's London rellies than he does:-) They are actually a fascinating lot. I would love to be able to tell my father in law all this information. He was quite up on family history and he made my research easier by telling me years ago small snippets of interest that I had the foresight to write down. He proved to be very accurate but I now have photos I would love to show him. Perhaps he knows it all now. Although he lived in the north east for many years and then here in Australia he was a Londoner through and through. OH would smile when he used cockney slang as he was a North Londoner but having since found that a large number of his ancestors came from Bethnal Green and surrounding areas I reckon he had a right to use cockney slang.
