Berona, I think that the male gender on here is already seriously imbalanced lol.

I have a few odds and ends from deceased rellies but als plenty of bricklayers, shoemakers etc on the side I have managed to trace. I also remeber some of the old tales passed down about how people died and now I have the death certificates, some of these would appear to ave a grain of truth!

I've got shoemakers, ag labs, railwaymen, on my fathers side, but all my mothers side were farmers, and land owners. Some later ones were coal miners.
Some emigrated to Bountiful in Utah, they became Mormons, and I have photo's of their graves in the Mormon Cemetry in Salt Lake City.
One emigrated to Moosejaw Canada, aged 23, but was dead in 6 months.

Colin: pleased do not disappear - I saw "There's no business like show business" with Ethel Merman. Johnny Ray was in it and I think Marilyn Monroe but could be wrong about that. Ethel Merman had the loudest voice and the widest mouth I had ever seen, that I do remember with her singing 'Anything you can do I can do better etc" My mother was a bit of a Hollywood Musical fancier because I seemed to get to see them all.

Allan: My great grandfather went Gold mining in Australia one of his sons (the plasterer) was born in Coolgardie in 1897. I have a copy of his mining certificate. He mined it with a Norwegian and I think a Swedish chap but would need to dig it out– the mine was called Burgess and my uncle’s middle name is Burgess. I have no idea where exactly it was.

My OH - The foot is healing BUT he has to wear his orthotic boot (which he hates) for another month. I did my mitzvahs yesterday and helped this Chinese couple find their Doctor – I had not been there before so was a bit of a giggle – they were all worried that once they got up to the floor in the lift how would they get back to their car. One of the surgeons on the same floor as OH's surgeon has the name Adam Dalgleish. Think he is in the wrong profession.

We have had the builder and plasterer and now the painters at our place. Then it is new carpet etc then curtains and a new splash back so am a bit ‘now and then’ when I get to have a good bang away on here.

Hi to Alison, Berona, Carolee, Sue and everyone. Thought of you today Sue when I had to prune back the rose bush that grows outside the dining area window. The painters could not open the windows far enough because of the climbing Rose so I was out there in the rain and am afraid I did do a bit of a hatchet job on it. It seems to have plenty of spirit and usually grows back with a vengeance.

Red sky all over, not just in the east when I woke up, brown fog as I walked to the station-- but you don't get fog with that much wind.
I think there have been mornings like this before, but possibly not in my life time. The dust bowl 1930s come to mind. Melbourne got an almighty dust storm about 25 years ago, same cause.
One of our directors was all excited this morning. He got out our very expensive dust monitor. Reading was 2500 micrograms / cubic metre outside; even inside it was reading 80. Recommended maximum level is 50-- for one day a year.
No wonder people catching public transport were covering their faces or even wearing masks. It has been seriously weird for us. As Berona said, we see this when there are bush fires in the region but it doesn't seem normal for an otherwise ordinary spring morning.
You people are right. The fun on this board and similar ones (like Posh's) help keep me sane. The GR annual fee is cheaper than a doctor's visit although my GP charges only 8 dollars more than the scheduled fee but I am sure I wopuld have to see him regularly. Or, perhaps a psychiatrist.
Hello Persy, nice to see you. You too, Susan with numbers. But doesn't our fearless leader SueMaid also have numbers? And what is their significance? On the ABC message boards I use my postcode. So does someone else who call themselves Sydney 2218. I must look up where that is one day.

We have been watching the storm and am hoping it dissipates before we get any of your dust - you know how fussy customs is with bringing in dirt from other countries.
Would you believe there were Aussie tourists here complaining that they were not back home to see it.

They have been talking about having this sort of weather in the 1940s. It is persistently raining here so everything will be dampened down first and then it will be a sticky mess if we do get it.

I have had enough of dust with all the goings on here and today have just pulled up all the carpet and underfelt and it was dusty as underneath. Plays havoc with the rhinitis.

I stayed home all day and waited for the sky to clear. Absolutely EVERYTHING was red! - the sky, buildings, streets, people - it was amazing. The strange part of it is that there is no red soil within hundreds of miles of here. I saw it on a trip to western New South Wales, but not anywhere near the coast - and it is forecast that it could continue as far as New Zealand! Surely they mean the wind - not the dust too?

The sky seemed to be covered in cloud - red cloud - and the sunshine has only broken through later in the day - with only little more than an hour to sundown - but the wind has finally abated - thankfully.

Colin 2218 is Carlton - in the St.George district. Would you ever have got around to looking it up?

Good evening/morning everyone. So nice to see Colin, Persey, Alison and everyone else posting.

Well I have to tell you all that your friend Suemaid is a superstar. Not only interviewed by the radio but photos and interview with our local paper and our local TV station filmed my speech - oh and the speeches of the other people. I mustn't forget that the Uni website also interviewed me so when it goes up on the website I'll post the link. It was quite nerve-wracking to start with but one does get used to being in demand. Line up for autographs:-)))

Seriously it was wonderful to have our organisation shown such appreciation and the media attention is a real bonus.

It was a very odd day weather wise. The wind was quite wild at times and the red dust covering everything was horrible. No point in doing much clean-up because of the wind today but everything outside including the plants are filthy. All the garden furniture will need a good clean.

We are now getting the dust storm up here, north of Brissy. We apparently reached 36 degrees today - air con is ON! Should only be 32 tomorrow.

I'm loving the thought of New Zealand weather. What does green grass look like again?!
