Happy birthday Janet, sorry I hadn't realised.

We did get out for lunch Sue, but it was a bit of a rush.

I have had a bit of a surreal day since then. Mum was perfectly normal when I visited her this afternoon, but apparently only half an hour after I left she was telling everyone that her daughter hadn't been to visit her today. When I went back at 6.30pm,she was totally confused, she thought it was morning and they would be coming to wash her at any minute. She was away with the fairies.
While I was trying to sort her out, I was trying to persuade a lady in the next bed to stay put. She had just arrived on the ward and was trying to walk out of the door all of the time. Unfortunately she was connected up to a drip in one arm and was connected to the other side of the bed by a catheter.

I had just got a nurse to come and restrain her when all hell broke loose as the emergency alarm went off. Medical staff were running in from all parts of the hospital, but sadly the man in the room opposite died. When I left the ward I was followed out to the lift by a young male doctor.He had been really nice yesterday when he put a cannula in mums arm, but he was almost in tears in the lift,so I spent five minutes talking to him to comfort him. It turned out being newly qualified, it was the first patient he had lost.

Surreal wasn't in it

Wow - a strange day, Linda. I'm sure the young doctor - and I've noticed these days that they are very young - was comforted by your words. When I do the training sessions I'm invariably asked how we can stop ourselves from becoming emotionally involved with the patients. I always tell them that the day you stop being involved is the day you stop working on the ward.

The doctors are really young aren't they. Sigh, does that mean that am so old?

I guess it does mean we're getting old, Linda. The police and fire brigade look very young too and I know there are teachers who are younger than my youngest:-))

Linda, your hospital visit yesterday, brought both a smile and a tear to my eye.

I have a nephew who is a final year med school student at University of WA.

When we first heard that he had got on the course we thought how appropriate. He had always been so arrogant and I could picture him ending up as a Consultant

However, whether it was just the course or he has matyred as a young man, he has certainly been injected with a dose of humility, and now comes across as a really nice lad.

And as different as peas in a pod, his younger brother despite entreaties from his dad (my brother) went out anf found himself a job as an apprentice glazier and has been as happy as the proverbial pig.

Janet, blew a real storm down here yesterday. At 1130 am temp was 16c at noon it was 15C. We lit the fire

Linda I can imagine that would be a little depressing:-)

Good morning Allan. We were supposed to have a thunderstorm here but all we got were grey skies and a few drops of rain. It's lovely and sunny here now.

When I do the training courses we have a fire safety officer come and do a presentation on....well fire safety:-) He has told us some great stories on what the young doctors get up to on their very little time off. In their accommodation building the fire extinquishers have to be checked often because they use them to cool down their cans of beer.

Besides, it was my OH wot wanted the fire lit! I did try to disuade her but she can be very forceful at times

Linda it takes a lot to insult me, except in Sue's case, as I am usually too thick to know when I am being insulted!!

I am sure that she is not insulting you Allan, just pointing out that you will need a big girls blouse as part of your maids outfit

Yes, thanks, Sue - I had a good day Sunday - after a day of chasing up and putting everything up high on Saturday!...The youngest grandson was born with long arms and legs, and he is using them to his advantage! His dad is 6ft 3ins and the little one is shaping up to be the same.
Of course, I love to see them all - but I also tend to feel tired after they leave!... I tried to watch something I had recorded from the previous evening - and nodded off to sleep while watching it!

So your defence of Sue may be slightly misplaced.....a bit like de fence at the back of our house
