Tec, I misread your post: I thought that you said I was the Mutter in Chief. I've reached the stage wher I really cant tell Talk from Mutter!

I'm not Sure what Sue's reaction to being called Mother Nutter is going to be, but I might move to the side of my screen just in case.

Hi, Allan. Very difficult to be forceful on the computer. It's against the T & C's to swear or be abusive:-))

The meeting went reasonably well and the majority of the people that turned up were philosophical about the changes. I did however receive 3 resignations from people who were adamant they wouldn't retrain or learn the basics of a simple computer. That is of course their choice but it was annoying to find that they blamed me for the changes.

That's disappointing Sue that 3 resigned. Had they never had any experience of a computer?
Maybe it was fear of the unknown, but hopefully you can find computer literate volunteers? Easier said than done I know.

Just wondering how tall Tec, Allan and Colin are. GR member Muffy is in a foul mood and looking for a little fellow to kick. Any volunteers?

It is the unknown they fear. I can't altogether blame them but I was disappointed. However, once I outlined the training the others seemed interested. The problem I have is getting people to understand that their very valuable life experience means nothing to bureacracy.

Sue, it's a shame because in today's society a basic knowledge of computing is essential. When I went on traing courses not directly related to my job I used to have the attitude "wow, someone else is paying for me to get this additional experience"

If I would have to have paid for it myself, I wouldn't have gone

I also saw Muffy's thread and I think that she was after someone shorter than 5' 4".

I think that from a previous chat that rules out both Tec and myself!

We could always volunteer Colin and if he is tall we can chop his legs off!

Tec, I have a large number of computer literate volunteers but the amount of knowledge they will need is very little. Basically turning the computer on and guiding people to the relevant websites. The computers will only have access to certain websites so it won't be difficult. I actually have a problem with the censorship. The hospital has decided that it will only use material approved by the Cancer Council - who as I mentioned before are in the process of trying to take over our organisation. We are making certain compromises to ensure we still have control of what we do and who we give our money to.

Sounds like they are making life as difficult as they can for you - one hand tied behind your back as it were, typical of the powers that be.
Surely, as fund raisers you are entitled to put those funds where you choose?

Yes Allan, we'll volunteer Colin for Muffy's rath - but we don't know how tall he is - he sounds tall........how do you sound tall?

Tec, the hospital would love us to just hand over our money to them rather than buy equipment for the relevant departments but we know it would go into their overall budget and probably get swallowed up in administration. We raise a sizable amount of money - around $150,000 a year and I think that's the main reason they tolerate us in the hospital. They are worried we'll donate it all to research.

Sue with all the aggro. I'm suprised that the Cancer Councilhas any volunteers!

The Council likemost organisations represents a very worthy cause but is staffed by petty bureaucrats who have limited experience of the real world.

I used to find that with the State Government. The one thing I learnt very quickly was that if you had a problem, speak to a local colleague not someone in Perth!
