After all, dressed as a maid, no one would think anything untoward was going on, they would just think Berona had a strange taste in maids.

No Tec, I was on that myself a few years ago when a Pulmonary Embolism almost did for me....not a nice experience!

Allan, my understanding of it is that volunteer fire fighters do get paid - per fire, etc. I could be wrong, but a few years ago, a suburb near mine didn't have their own Brigade. They had a small building with two engines standing at the ready and only one or two staff. When a call came in, they had to call the volunteers in before they could leave for the fire, so it was engines from neighbouring suburbs which got there first. One of the volunteers told me about them getting paid a fee. It's not much and certainly not worth risking their lives for. However, in spite of the large amount of volunteers, as in everything else, there will always be the odd screwball who wants either the money or the chance to have his photo in the paper.

After a devasting bushfire, some years ago, it was found that some employers had not paid firefighters for the time lost at their normal jobs and they were shamed. I believe there might have been a law passed on that one. Maybe others can tell us for certain.

Yes, I remember the employers that were shamed for not paying their employees for their time away fire fighting. I also think the fire brigade attracts people who have some sort of obsession with fires. No different than paedophiles working in occupations involving children.

I've had one of those - very nasty, and I nearly died too.
Oh phoned the doc to say I had a pain in my leg, and couldn't breathe very well. Which made no sense to him at all. What happened was I had a DVT in my leg, part of it broke away and went into the lung.
The best part was, the doc came to the house, I'm in agony and can't breathe. He then told me to drive to the A&E Dept of the local hospital, which in that town was only four miles away. OH didn't drive, took my ages just to get dowstairs, but somehow managed to drive the car. When I got there they had to get me out of the car and the whole thing turned into a real emergency, I was very ill for weeks after.
That GP needed a talking too.

You will be welcome to join us on our cruise. He and I are going halves in purchasing a big cruiser - just as soon as we both win a lottery. In the meantime, he will keep us employed at his palatial estate, waiting on him and his Duchess.

Good morning/evening all,

Allan, I don't think its an advantage to have a large hand to catch a softball, more of a skill. the catcher is the one that calls the pitch (tells the pitcher what to throw) Now I'm a small lady, about 5"2 so I have very small dainty hands, on the other hand my hubby is 6'2 his hands are more than double mine (dinner plates). He loves his sport!!
They ended up losing yesterday 8-5, but coming second is not bad considering, hubby's side were over 45's and the other sides oldest player was 26 years old!!
This morning he was extremely sore, i felt so sorry for him, but at the same time I understand his passion and have always supported his sport.

Today, I am going to ride a horse for the first time in about 30 years, so I will let you all know how I get on(or off) We are going for our trail ride either next week or the week after!!

Sue... I saw those fires on the news, I thought of you and Berona :-)
Its very scary, stay safe you two!!! Its going to be a bad year for fires I think, everywhere!!!

My Butler has to be a little old man, stooped, with bandy legs - couldn't stop a pig in a passage - he has to make the crockery rattle on the tray, so that I hear him staggering along.........
