Huia Report 15 Feb 2014 19:51

Hello there. Yesterday morning after breakfast I went up in the attic and brought 4 boxes of material and clothes down. I have sorted a banana box full of material to go to our shop as I will never get to making it up. There is one piece of blue fluffy material that I was going to use 'some time' to make sweat pants but now I might just hem it to make a blanket. I will go up to the attic again soon, before it gets too hot, to bring down more boxes of stuff. I am really determined to get rid of as much as possible.

Best wishes to those who get dizzy and who have other problems. :-)

It has been sunny all afternoon which has brightened things up. I have nade two cards with them so far Jean. Quite difficult to know how to use them though. I will wait until I have done a couple more then put them on the blog.

Yes Luke is a bonny boy, next time we see him -- in March, he will be eight and a half months. time goes so fast.

JustJean Report 15 Feb 2014 14:36

Just had a look Ann, he is a grand little boy and dont they grow up fast...

glad the cards arrived safely and quickly too. I hope to see your pics when you make them ;-) ;-) ;-)

Mo , my little poppet what am I going to do with you :-| :-| I will have to enrol you into the Vertigo club now, do take it easy , no sudden turns and bending down , get on of those grabbers , I pick all manner of things up with mine ;-) ;-) ;-) has the doctor mentioned doing some head exercises, I do them as soon as ifeel the dizziness coming on , and they work, but there are different forms of vertigo, mine wont work with all of them....I shared them with a friend and she had no change at alll... so its trial and error I am afraid..... take extra care lovey.

love and hugs to Huia and also Sylvia hope you both feel much better....

rain, rain and more rain here and cold too.... think I will go back to bed :-D :-D :-D

Ooh now I am talking to myself.

Jean, thank you for the cards I shall look forward to using them.

Just been to the garden centre. They gave us 10% off in the cafe for supporting them as they have had little custom the last few days because the access road in one direction (A38 Gloucester to tewkesbury) was closed Gloucester end so they lost trade.

Bought a couple of books in the garden centre but had to pay cash as there phone lines were down. A large fir tree had come down overnight in the field behind them and taken the phone lines out. It just missed their roof too.

Very windy here last night but no damage here. :-) :-)

A couple of new photos of Luke on the photo blog if anyone is interested.

Hello everyone,
Sorry I have not been on for a few days, but have had a bit of the dreaded vertigo.
I haven't read whats been happening on here, but hopefully will be able to read back tomorrow, as the dizziness is not quite as bad today, and the words are not so blurry.
Take care all, love to you all, Mo xxx

Huia Report 14 Feb 2014 05:55

Hello girls. I have just had an unexpected 2 days and nights in hospital. I had a couple of minor symptoms (feeling faint, just briefly, one day and the next having numbness going up the fingers of my right hand in waves for several hours). The doc gave me a good going-over and then rang the charge nurse at the hospital to ask what she thought. Nurse said 'send her through straight away'. It was a suspected minor stroke. The hospital took blood tests, kept checking my BP, asking me to push them and pull them and all sorts of things, then the second day they gave me a head scan. It did show some small spots which might just be an age thing or could be signs that I have had some mini strokes at some time. The finally turned me loose at lunch time today and I was allowed to get the train back to Papakura and pick up my vehicle and drive home, but if I have any more symptoms I have to go back, and no more driving. Very difficult when I live 25 mins from town with no public transport. At least I have now got the message that I really must get stuck into clearing out junk in case I have to sell up and move. Over the past couple of months I have done very little as I have felt so lethargic. Perhaps that was one of the symptoms. Anyway, I feel fine at present.

AnninGlos Report 13 Feb 2014 14:33

It was very windy in this area but I don't think it was as bad as it was further north. No damage here anyway thank goodness.

Glad you were able to see C on Saturday Jean. Rotten journey for D yesterday then, so tiring for her after working. Large lorries should have been banned as soon as the forecast was known with those winds.

Had to go out early this morning and wait an hour for Tony to be able to re-visit the dentist. As I think you know, he had a tooth out Tuesday. Since then he has hardly been able to open his mouth or swallow with swollen gland on that side. today back to the dentist and it is an infection (as I said yesterday when I wanted him to go to the dentist then!!!!! men!!!) So now he has anti biotics and I hope that cures it because bear and sore head don't even come near!

I am running out of ideas for 'slop' for dinner, we've had savoury mince and rice, bolognese mince sauce and mashed potatoes and tonight it is fish pie. Having said that he couldn't even eat weetabix this morning so that went out for the birds. He is not sleeping either, which means neither am I!!! I so hope these antiBs work fast. And I admire the patience of those who wear a carers hat. I did have a chuckle this morning though when I realised the dentist's receptionist was addressing me instead of him about seeing the dentist. Now I know how carers and their charges feel!!

What a terrible day yesterday, D left work early, but she got on the M62 at 5.15pm and immedietly was in a huge traffic jam a high sided Lorry with a high sided trailer on it had gone over blocking two lanes , she finally got home at 8.15pm she said the winds were horrific, and I noticed on the travel map for that area another couple of disruptions had happened too.... how I hate that moterway even in fine weather always loads of huge lorries going up to Hull for the ferries however the police finally decided to stop lorries using it... thank goodness its calm and wind free now although snow is on the higher ground.. S had the same problem on the M60, but not as long before he got home...We had a lovely couple of hours when he brought C on sat morning, C is full of it and opened his birthday presents , and promptly ran all over the place with a wheelie type trolly that he has had since he was born, wont be long befor he walks unaided, but he is a lovely happy little boy and the nice thing he knows us now...
I am not making any cards for a while its a bit too cold even with the heating on...
J finally has managed to post the cards to you Sallie and Ann and Jo, so should be with you soon...which dies have you ordered?I got a large clear stamp with Mum on , ready for the mothers day cards....

hope everyone else is afe and well, stay indoors unless its vital to go out, summer is a -coming.... clocks forward next month.... seems to have come round quicker each time....Mo hope you and him indoors are both better and darting around as usual :-D :-D :-D

love to all Jean xx <3

Hello Girls, it's very quiet on here, hope that you are all okay.

Jean, I see that along with the whole of West Wales, that the NW of England are suffering very high winds and rain, so hope it isn't that bad where you live. Hope D has arrived home from work safely, seen on the news that some roads have been closed.

Richard was saying last night, that there were a few places he couldn't get to yesterday, Staines, Datchet and a couple of other places where he has to go to visit customers. the roads were all closed off.

Christie, works in Oxford University, as there were no trains running from Slough through Maidenhead, so he had to take her on the M4 to Reading so that she could get a train to Oxford, all before he went to work himself. Don't know how she has managed today though.

I sent for a couple of dies over the weekend, normally they only take a day or two, but I haven't received them yet. I suppose with all the disruption on the roads and rail, I'll have to wait a at least another couple of days,

Anyway, I must go now, I hope that you are all safe in your part of the country.

Speak to you all soon.

Love, Sallie.xxx

Hi girls, hope that you are all alright .

Ann, hope all went well at the dentist for you, Like you I am I hate going there, in fact I am terrified, so you have my sympathy about going.

All went well at the show for Alun, he always enjoys going to them, He bought another engine off one off the stalls there, but when he tried it on the layout that the club had there it wouldn't go at all so he took it back and the chap gave him his money back. Alun was really disappointed, as it's an engine that he has wanted for a while.....never mind he can try somewhere else for it.

Sylvia, pleased that you are feeling ' more human ' as you put it.lol!!! It's good to hear that you are feeling a lot better, and that you managed to go out for more coffee.

We had some snow this morning, I was going to try and go up to town on the bus to get bread, but it started to snow, so thought I had better not go, didn't want to risk falling and making by leg worse, as it is getting better.

Mo, hope that you are alright, haven't heard from you for a few days.

Shaun, if you are looking in, I hope you managed to order some things online after all.

Marie and Huia, hope all is well with you both and your families.

Jean, you sound ' a busy bee ' making your cards. I hope that I will be back to making mine within the next couple of days.

Must go now, speak to you all soon.

Take care.

Love, Sallie.xxx

Hi Mo, and everyone

Ann ............. glad to hear that you got your heating back :-)

I'm feeling human once again, and may even consider going for afternoon coffee later :-)

Today is a Stat Holiday in this province ..................... Family Day

It's really an excuse for a day off between Christmas and Easter ........... which can be as long as 4 months without a break.

Most other provinces have Family Day on Monday next week ............... don't know why we had to be different :-S

It is raining hard here, and is much warmer than it was, at around +5 or +6C.

The rain IS better than the original forecast of snow, followed by freezing rain, followed by rain!

take care everyone

Apologies if you read the Welsh thread I have copied this from there.

Mostly today it was blue skies and sunshine with just one short shower here, not too cold either.

I have not got on here before been busy, although not sure doing what. Time seems to have disappeared. We had the boiler fixed, plumber arrived as promised at 0830, then had to go and get a new air pressure switch. He finished at 10.30 (£140). Then we went for papers and coffee, then I did a scrap book page, (that is five pages in 2 days) then made some veg soup for lunch with oddments of veg from the fridge, then wrote a long letter Hmm I suppose that is busyish!!! Trying to take my mind off tomorrow when I have the dreaded dentist. Anyone who knows me will know what a wimp I am when it comes to the dentist ugh!!!

Sallie, glad you had a good day in Wales and hope Alun enjoyed the model Railway show.

Hi Girls,

Sylvia, sorry to know that you have had the dreaded lurgy twice over the last few weeks. Very kind of your OH to share it with you.lolol!! Hope it won't be too long before you are are over it and that you are feeing l a lot better. Also hope that OH is much better by now.

Pleased that your leg is recovering well if slowly, but as they say, slowly but surely.

Sorry to hear that your daughter has a few problems with the firm she works for, let's hope that the people that owe them money will pay up straight away now and not keep the firm waiting for it.

Mo, you are right, even ten pence won't buy children any sweets these days, I usually give friends children or grandchildren about a pound to one pound fifty, to get sweets now.
When I make a comment about how many sweets I could buy for sixpence when I was a child, Jennie reminds me of how much people earn now to then, so of course we have to pay more for them. I know she's right, but I still think they are expensive these days, even from when my two were small.

I think I have become like my nan, I can remember as I was growing up, she was always commented on how much prices had gone up.

Elizabeth, lovely to see you on here, I didn't manage to watch the programme as we were down visiting my brother and family, but I might be able to get to watch it on I-Player.

Ann, sorry that you didn't manage to get much sleep last night and that you are feeling under the weather today.

Shaun, you are welcome, glad to be of help to you and Mrs Shaun. Let's hope that she will get interested in making cards, if she does, like the rest of us she may well become addicted to it.lol!!
My knee is feeling a good bit better and I am now able to walk short distances without having to use the stick for support, so hope over the next few days I will be able to manage the stairs, so can get back to card making.YIPEEEE!

We had a great day down in Wales with family and friends, had a lovely meal out and also my cousin's friends had bought her a birthday cake with some candles on, so we all sung Happy Birthday to her.

Only problem we had on the way down was on the M42 with a traffic holdup between jcts 5 to 3, it took us an hour and thirty five minutes to get between those two jcts. a long time considering that it is only one mile between 5 and 4.
Still, the weather was good, a bit windy but the sun was shining in lovely blue sky.

It started to rain heavily before we let my brother's, but by the time we got about half way on the M50, it had eased off a good bit and by the time we had passed Birmingham we had no rain at all, although it was still windy.

Alun is up in Doncaster today, at a Model Railway Show. They have a layout there so by the time they take it down and load it into the cars and then unload it and put it away at the club house, I don't think he will be home much before seven o clock.

As Alun was having a meal up there Jennie, Michael and I went out to lunch, it was very nice too..

Well must go now , will speak to you all again soon.

Take care everyone.

Love, Sallie.xxx

We will help you any way we can, just let us know, take pics of your cards I always do have done for years its surprising how much one gets better as the time goes on, so have a great time,

Sylvia I hope that the bug leaves you soon. Very generous of your OH to share.
Also hope your daughter doesn't have to go too long without money and that the customers who owe soon pay up.

I think we all still try and convert back to LSD sometimes Mo. I don't do it quite so often. One thing when thinking about how much things cost, how much pocket money etc, we also have to remember how much wages have increased, and things like what we used to call family allowance.

Only had about 3-4 hours sleep for some reason last night so feel rough today. I do need my sleep.

Hi Mo and everyone

OH had the dread lurgy on Tuesday ......... otherwise known as stomach flu (or possibly norovirus)

Guess what??

he very kindly shared it with me .............................

i have been sick since late Wednesday night :-(

It is my second bout in 2 weeks, as I had a go with it while we were with out daughter.

On the bright side .................... I have lost 5 lbs in the last 3 days ........ which means a total of 7 lbs in the last 2 weeks, as I lost 4 lbs the first time but put 2 lbs back on.

Not that I really intended to lose that much in such a short time :-)

Daughter seems to be recovering well, and has been given some tablets to help her sleep.

There is more stress on them at the moment ........... she is a partner in a firm, and unfortunately some clients did not pay their bills at the end of December, and when there is not enough money in the kitty, the partners don't get paid ...................... so we have had to lend them some money. Hopefully, it will only be the one month that is short.

My leg is recovering well, thank you Sallie. It has taken a long while to scab over properly, and the scab is still there. But it is not sore or anything.

take care everyone
