Huia Report 13 Apr 2014 22:16

I have had a busy few days. On Saturday there was a class reunion in Pukekohe. We now combine with the class that comes after us as our numbers are dropping. For the class photo I gave my camera to one of the other women, asking her to take a photo. She finished up with 3 cameras and I couldn't find any photo on mine! She obviously didn't know how to use it, or got confused about which camera she had used each time.

Yesterday I went to a choir concert in Papakura. It was Mozart's Requiem. The singing was magnificent.

I overate at the class lunch, and I overate at the concert afternoon tea :-(

Today I am on duty at the Hospice shop, so no temptation to overeat I hope. But I must drink lots of water.

Hi Jean, just you and me then and I am not sure about you if you have gone to bed. We actually sat out there this evening with a drink before dinner, the sun was shining, I was in a T shirt and it was lovely and warm. Summer is coming. :-D

Thank you Sallie for your remarks re my photos, I love taking photos. Glad you liked them. Mind you the blossom is easy to take.

Marie hope as Sallie says, that you just need new glasses. The optician told me last month that I have the very early stages of cataract in one eye. I am hoping it will be some time before it gets any worse. I haven't noticed anything myself.

Huia, nice to take soft toys to the home, they will bring comfort to the residents I'm sure.

Elizabeth thank you for your good wishes for the weekend. It is quite cold here today compared to yesterday when it was 15 degrees. Today there is a cold wind but we had a lovely trip out to the shops in Cheltenham and lunch out.

Jean, oh dear, what a shame to both get tummy bugs, was that before you went or when you were there? Do you know where you got it from? You needed that holiday too both of you. Anyway, I am pleased that you cheered yourself up by buying lots of craft stuff. The range has opened a new store in Gloucester and they have quite a large craft department so that can only be a good thing!! We went there yesterday, it was very crowded as it was opening day but we had a good look round, got a couple of craft bits and some paint for the shed which was half price.

Ann, thank you, I had a look at your photos on your blog on Sunday night, the magnolias are beautiful. I must say that you are a very good photographer, all the photos you take are very good......wish Alun and I could take photos half as well as you do.

Huia, sounds as though the sale was a great success, well done. I'm sure you must have been shattered by the time you got home and especially with the weather being so hot.

They will appreciate the soft toys at the home, I'm sure. From what you say, you must have a lot to take in for the residents.....they will love them.

Marie, hope you won't need to have the cataract removed and hope that you will just need new glasses. You have had to wait a long time for your appointment, haven't you?

Hearing aids are very expensive here too, I bought my first hearing aid about five years ago, paid over £1,500 for it, but I couldn't get on with it at all. So, now I have the NHS hearing aids and find that they suit me a lot better. Which reminds me, I must make an appointment for a couple of weeks time.

Anyway, let's hope that things turn out not as expensive as you expect them to be.

I can't remember seeing the film Paradise Road, I have probably seen it but just can't recall it at the moment. Good luck, and hope that the choir will sing the song well.

Well, I'm off to bed now, so will look in again soon.

Love, Sallie.xxx

Hello my friends.
I have just finished reading the last page, you all sound well which is good to hear
I am feeling a bit wacked (tired) the last few weeks have been busy.I think I need a holiday I would like to take off to QLD but unfortunately it is still too hot & humid in Rockhampton.
The school term finishes at the end of this week and it is almost Easter not a good time to be traveling ,
Daylight saving finished last Sunday.

Does anyone remember the Movie ( Paradise Road ) ?? I am teaching my chior,
The Largo of the New World symphony. The women prisoners of war were taught this Largo by a very clever English Woman the hummed this song every where they were forced to travel it featured in the Movie it is called "A Song of Home " it is just so Lovely. I do hope that we will be able to sing it WELL.I think the words were added after the movie ,
It was a very sad but beautiful MOVIE.

I have been been finding it difficult to see for some time now, I have had an appointment with the EYE Specialist since the end of Jan, for 29th April. I am certain he is going to tell me that the Cataract in my right eye will have to be removed and that I need stronger glasses, It will all be expensive, I also need a new hearing aid that will cost $ 5.000 , it is just as well that I will be receiving some money from the sale as I will be needing it..

Old age is a pain it is such a pity that everything starts to Fail but i would rather be alive than dead, which reminds me ----I went and bought myself a plot in the local cemetery last week, I picked it out myself I made sure that it got shade in the Summer as I do not want to cook in the heat LOL :-D ;-)

I must be off, it is time to rustle up some Food for my Dinner .
Love <3 to you all Marie <3

I got it wrong about the garage sale today. It finished at one pm. It was a very hot sunny day, so I wasn't sorry that it finished earlier than I thought. There would have been 12 or 15 of us at a guess. Most of us were just standing around watching, offering plastic bags for people who were getting lots of clothes, picking up clothing that finished up on the ground. They started with just the one table for people to pay, using the old till, but the queue was so long that they brought another small table out for people making cash payments. Most of the things were $1 each. I didn't buy any clothes but I bought quite a few soft toys to take to where Phil is. I now have 2 big rubbish bags full to take to them. Some of the residents like the soft toys. I arrived home exhausted.

Ann, your wedding outfit sounds nice......I'm sure that the top with deep pink flowers will work well with the pale pink/blush trouser suit. Will look forward to seeing a photo of you wearing it, on the big day.

Mo. hope that your friend will be able to sort out the bridesmaids dresses for your daughter, though I'm sure she will. Sorry, I can't remember when the wedding is, although I know you have told us.

Have you any ideas on what you would like to wear and what colour you would like?

Although, sometimes I think it is better to go with an open mind and that way you are more than likely to see something that you like.

Huia, no wonder you were utterly whickered, walking for 2hours. You sound as though you enjoyed the walk though, and it will hopefully have done you some good.

Looks as though you are going to have a very busy Sunday, take it easy and don't try and do too much. How many of you will be working that day?

Sylvia, hope things are all okay with you and OH. Also hope that things are starting to get better for your daughter and son in law.

Marie, hope all is going well for you and your family. Take care.

Hope that Jean and J will have a nice weeks break and that the weather will be good to them.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone and take care.

Hope you find something Mo. I found a trouser suit for Grandsons October wedding last weekend, very very pale pink. Blush I would think it is called. Already have a top to wear with it, white with deep pink flowers. Oh had not seen it on,tried it on today and he liked it. Just need shoes now. Trousers are straight legged ankle length.

Hello dear friends,
It's so good to catch up with all your news, and a big hello to Elizabeth for popping in to say hello to us all.

Well tomorrow, I have to take my daughters, and grandaughters, to a friend of ours, who is going to do the alterations, to their bridesmaids dresses.
They have got to be taken up, taken in in some cases, and let out in one dress.
Our daughter bought them online, and they were a totally different colour, to what she expected, and the sizings were all wrong, but not to drastically.
K thought they would be a champagne colour, but they are like a light moccha/bronze, so K has changed the colour scheme now, to coffee and cream lol
They will look good enough to eat...or drink as the case may be.

I shall be going to a shop in a local outlet centre during this week, as there is a little shop there that caters for middle to older aged people, in hopes I find something to wear.
My birthday suit is a bit to wrinkled to wear these days, and my body has not seen the sun in such a long time, it looks like I have seen a ghost. lol

Well my lovelies, have a great weekend, hugs to you all, Mo xxx

This morning I drove over the hill to the valley, and walked up the dam then up the waterline road. I was walking for almost 2 hours. When I drove back home I just sat in the vehicle trying to get the energy to get out and open the garage door, I was so utterly whacked. I must get the few photos I took onto my computer.

Tomorrow morning I am going to help at our shop. We are not usually open on a Sunday, but we are having a garage sale from 9 - 4. I will need to get up early to get there by 9 but luckily our clocks go back an hour tonight, so there will be an extra hour to sleep. :-D

Huia, I've been having problems getting to sleep over the last 5-6 weeks, so I thought it might have been a good idea to post some messages on GR.
I still wasn't able to get to sleep until gone 04.00am......too much going on in my head, that's the trouble.

Ann, so glad that you enjoyed the weekend with your grandsons, great grandson Luke and his mum.

Pleased that your fencing and patio are now finished, that's all you need now, is some lovely weather so that you can enjoy some time sitting outside.

Yes it was rather a long message Ann, but hadn't been on here for about a week, so had a good bit of news.lol!!

Jean, hope you and J will have a nice break in Llandudno, keeping my fingers crossed that the weather will be good for you.

Take care everyone,

Not a thing packed Ann, we went to see our friend the one I made the 80th card, he is quite lively but does wander off and its quite sad to see how he has gone down hill, although he openend his card and knew where it was taken and who Jeff was, he remarked about Jeffs moustache which he no longer has, so it was a time to remember , we also found out his wife Ruth isnt well either , so we shall see more of them both when we come back...dont know if we will be able to go to his birthday tea on the Sat we come home....then this afternoon we had the littlies in , from next door. they are having new windows put in and I think it was cold in the house , it was nice to have the little boy come in , Faye is always here but Stanley hasnt been in much, so nothing got done,... but we dont take much with us , buy what we need when we get there.....-D :-D :-D very laid back about it all which isnt like me ;-) ;-) usually I get in a panic, but am determined to stay cool ;-) ;-) ;-)
so if I dont get on tomorrow... take care everyone and behave Mo...

love and hugs Jean xx <3

OOH I bet that Jean is packing her bags today. Have a great holiday Jean.

Sallie Gosh, that was a long post. Yes we had a lovely time in Hampshire, Luke is gorgeous, still very smiley and not bothered who he goes to, very placid so far. The fence was finished last week and since then they rebuilt our patio, it is now in multi coloured 'cobble' (not the round variety, different sized bricks put together). It looks sort of like the old victorian brick paths.

Huia, it must be very sad and frustrating to keep visiting and not know if you are recognised or not. I am sure that Phil will be comforted that somebody is there holding his hand, even if he doesn't show it, and for your own sake you need to keep visiting.

Marie So pleased the property has been sold, I hope you get your money soon. Grandson's flat has fallen through for the second time. I feel so sorry for them as they have found a house to buy and of course can't until the flat sells.

I happened to read the first page of this thread and, besides feeling sad at seeing Deanna's name, bless her, she is so missed with her droll sense of humour, I also saw Mummo's name. does anyone know if she has left the boards? I haven't seen her for ages on here anywhere.

Well I shall probably not be able to move tomorrow. Just spent two hours in the garden sorting out the hosta pots and re-placing them at the back of the hosta bed in front of the new fence behind the new patio. then I had to put down four bags of slate. (Actually I needed help with the fourth as I was tired by then so OH helped.) I can see one hosta coming through in the actual bed. I am really keeping my fingers crossed that none of the other hostas came through and were tramped on, I suppose we shall just have to wait and see but there have got to be at least 12 hostas in the bed. A lot of moneys worth.

Had a nice run out this morning, despite the murky weather. We took our friend for coffee to a garden centre, which is where we got the slate. Hadn't been there for a while so it made a nice change.

Huia

Huia Report 3 Apr 2014 01:39

Sallie, what on earth were you doing on the computer so late at night?

I visited Phil yesterday. He still has that nasty cough, and his breathing was raspy. He was also 'green around the gills' but that would have been from whatever he had for lunch. His hands were tucked under a light blanket and when I took one of his hands out to hold it it was very hot and sweaty, so I blew gently on it to try to cool it down. How forehead didn't feel so hot. I just hope he doesn't last beyond this year, my visits seem rather pointless when he doesn't look at me or talk to me, but I feel I have to visit just in case he does know who I am.

Our shop installed a scanner and computer on the counter just over a month ago. I managed to freeze it last week. My partner hovers over me and last Monday when I made a mistake she was going to press buttons, and I told her not to hover over me as she makes me nervous. I think it is more an irritation that she tries to correct my mistakes instead of letting me try, and sometimes she just makes things worse.
