Hi Mo, and everyone

Ann ....... sorry to hear that the doctor couldn't see what was wrong with T's leg ............... he isn't on high cholesterol pills is he? Some of those can cause muscle weakness and pain :-(

I had a strange experience earlier tonight ..........................

I was on another site with a few friends, and we were talking about the typical English semi with it's 3 bedrooms and 2 Reception rooms, etc, and whether it was a small or large house .............................

My brother used to live in one, he bought it in 1958 or so, as a new build on a brand new private estate near Belle Vue in Manchester

He died in September 1990, and my sister-in-law sold the house very shortly after.

I have to admit that I had forgotten the number of the house after almost 25 years, although not the street.

I googled the street, found a site that had houses for sale in that area, and zoomed in on one, then used the link on the other site to show my friends what I was talking about ......................

and 2 hours later realised that, yes, that was indeed my brother's old house :-0

There were some major changes inside ........... most notably knocking out the wall between the 2 downstairs "reception rooms", and gas central heating installed, but otherwise it was little changed.

My sis-i-l sold it in early 1993 for about £35,000 or £36,000 because it needed a lot of work done ........... it had sold in 2000 for £48,000

I don't think the buyers had made much profit after doing the necessary maintenance and upgrading!

But what a weird experience looking round that house after so long!

BTW ................. Google street view showed the garden was as bad as when my brother lived there :-)

Ann, sorry that the doctor wasn't too much help today, let's hope that T's blood test results will show up whatever the problem is and that they can give him something to help the pain.
Also hope that you can park the car at the walk in centre and that you won't have to hang around there too long.

Mo, I mean't to have said on my earlier post this evening, that it's lovely to read your news and that it is not at all boring.

Tomorrow we are going down to S Wales just for the day, we are meeting up with some of the family, so looking forward to it.

Will chat to you all again soon.

Take care everyone.

Well as we expected doctor (she was not our normal one as he is on holiday) couldn't find anything wrong. Well how could she, the pain is inside his leg, no outward signs of swelling or redness and it comes and goes. All she could do is send him for a fasting blood test and urine test tomorrow. Sending him to the walk in clinic at the hospital which is a pain, instead of doing it at the surgery, because she can get the result back more quickly. She is going to phone on Monday with the result. She did make him stand and go up on his toes (which didn't hurt him) and she compared his legs, I suppose to check if one was a different shape. Afterwards it did occur to me that, as it must be two years since he last had it done, she should have checked his BP. She also said Nurofen were a good thing to take. This morning he couldn't put his foot on the floor but it eased during the day. So we know where we will be spending our morning. (if we can find somewhere to park the car.)

Hi girls, I missed you all posting yesterday, it's nice to hear from you all.

Jean, sorry that you are having problems with your voice, I hope that the camera will show that it is nothing to worry about.

Like you, I am glad that it is a bit cooler now, hot weather and I don't get on at all, never have.lol!!

Hope J, D and the rest of the are getting along okay.

Ann, hope all will go well for T at the doctors this afternoon and that it isn't anything too much to worry about and that he has something to help with the pain.

Sylvia, thanks for asking, both Alun and I are not too bad at the moment.

Alun went out to breakfast yesterday with three of the men he worked with, they thought that he looked well and they were pleased to know that he is enjoying his retirement. It's an all men's club so I wasn't invited.LOL

Hope that things are better for both of you now, as you have had a lot of stress and family worries for a long while.

Mo, I hope that Ava's temperature is down and that she is better than she was. Bless her!
Gosh, how times have changed, we wouldn't have even thought about giving ours ice cubes, but as you say , I suppose that's progress......still it makes me wonder sometimes, if it is.LOL

I hope that the spots on your face is nothing to worry about, but it's best to be sure. Do you know how long you will have to wait to get the results? But I suppose if they are anything to worry about, the hospital will get in touch almost straight away.

Joyce is okay, I have heard from her a couple of times lately. Her and Jan are coming over to Yorkshire on the 10th August, so I might see her then.

Huia, hope you are all packed up and ready for your weekend at Christchurch
and that it all goes well for you. Good Luck.

Hope that the antibiotics have started to work for Phil and that at least nothing will happen while you are away.

Marie, hope you are and your family are okay, it's a little while since we heard from you.

Well must go now and sort out what we are having for dinner.

Will speak to you all again soon.

Love and best wishes.

Sallie. xxx

Huia Report 29 Jul 2014 22:18

Hi Mo and everybody else. I am still looking in each day, but I am pretty busy as I go to Christchurch on Friday for a conference (I am a candidate in the coming elections) and will return on Monday. I bought a lovely top and matching cardigan which I want to take, but the sleeves come down to my fingertips so I am hoping to turn them up today. Yesterday morning I got a phone call from Phil's home to say he has another chest infection and is on antibiotics again. I immediately thought if he should die while I am away I have nothing definite in place so I made a quick visit to him as I hadn't visited last week, and then went to the funeral director and told him what I wanted if he did die over the weekend (he probably wont though), so at least everything is in place now. They say they will hold the body there until I get back, if he does. Not that it would bother me unduly if they went straight ahead with the cremation, but maybe they want their money up front!

Must get on now with my sewing and sorting and packing. Today is Wednesday and I leave here on Friday morning, so only 2 days to get everything done. I have asked the postie to hold my mail on Friday and Saturday.

Mo in Kent Report 29 Jul 2014 19:33

Oh my goodness, I am sorry to hear that our Jean, and Ann's T, are having problems.
This weather does seem to make things worse for us all. I always was taught, that the sunshine was good for us, but we have never in the the last few years, had the chance to adjust to it, and now it just knocks us all for six.
I do hope that T gets a good result from the doctors tomorrow Ann.

Oooh Jean, you are much braver than I would be, just the thought of having the camera down my throat, makes me quiver. I hope and pray it's something they can sort out on the day it's done my love.
On the lighter side, I bet J has had the flags out, as it's been so quiet in your house...Naughty Naughty me, you know that I am only joking Jean don't you honey.

I had an appointment today, at the hospital, re these things on my nose, and cheek. My G.P is not sure wether it's age spots, or something nasty.
The woman I saw today, took photo's of my nose...(with a wide angle lens lol ) and the one on my cheek, and she also took a deeper photographs, that goes beneath the layers of the skin, to see if anything nasty is there.
I now have to wait for the specialist to take a look, and if he wants to see me, they will contact me, for him to either see them for himself, or for biopsy's to be done.
Oh my word, why is life never easy.

Our new baby Ava, had to be taken to see the emergency doctor today, she had a temperature of 38, and had not taken a feed since eleven p.m at night. She was boiling over, and crying her little heart out.
Her Mummy and Daddy were told to give her calpol, to bring the temperature down, and place her near a fan to cool her down. They also suggested they trickle an ice cube into her mouth, to ensure she didn't dehydrate.
My oh my, how things change, we were told to give the little ones tepid baths, and strip them down to cool them off, not give them ice cubes. Then I suppose, this is what they call progress these days.

Sallie, I hope you and Alun are doing well. It's nice to hear from you, even though you feel that nothing much is happening.
All my news seems to be about illness and hospitals, it must bore you all to tears.

Has anyone heard from Huia lately ? I have not seen her posting recently. I do hope she is o.k.

Joyce has not been on our thread for a while, but she has been on Face Book, so I know she is around.

Sending love and best wishes to Sylvia, and Marie.

Take care everyone, stay as cool as you can. Love Mo xxx

Jean ...... hope that they find out the problem with your voice, and that it is easy to cure

Ann .................. I know what T is going through! I've had those aching pains for weeks, all connected up with the knee problem.

Hi Jean, sorry you have a problem with your voice. I hope the camera shows that it is nothing to worry about. I wonder if it is something to do with the constant heat as we are not used to it. T has a problem with one leg, most of the time the calf muscle aches but every so often he gets bad stabbing pains in it. He has a GP appointment for tomorrow afternoon. (He phoned Monday morning but didn't take my advice to phone early and it was gone 9 when he phoned, otherwise he'd have had an earlier appointment.) I can't think what it can be but will be glad when he finds out as a lot of the time he is like the proverbial bear with sore head!!! :-D

Hi Mo, so pleased to see that you are feeling a bit better to post.

I know what you mean about the heat, it is far too hot for me too. Although after rain last night it was a little bit cooler this morning, but has got hotter again this afternoon.

So glad that you had enjoyed the BBQ at your daughter's house yesterday and that you and most of the family had a good time.
Made me chuckle to hear about Lilly and Gracie's antics with the shot glasses, just shows how carefully we need to watch three year old's. LOL.

I haven't been on GR for a few days, not much news here at all. I'm afraid.

Hope all our other friends on here are okay.

Will chat to you all again soon.

Hello all,
Just popping on quickly to say hello to you.
Things are good here, we are both sweating and swearing, about the heat. We Brits are never happy are we, soon we will be complaining that it's to cold.
We had a lovely BBQ, at our daughters house last night. Most of our family were there.
Lilly and our great grandaughter Gracie, came into the garden with little shot glasses, and were stopped just in time, before filling the glasses up from the fish pond, and drinking it...yuk, little monkeys, we needed eyes up our backsides. When they get together, like are like two whirlwinds, and rush around like blazes.
At the moment, the sky is as dark as dark can be, and hopefully we will get some rain, as the garden desperately needs it.

I hope you are all well, I send you my best wishes, Mo xxx

Ann, sorry I'm a bit late, please would you wish T Many Happy Returns of the Day, from us. I hope he's enjoyed his birthday.

Sylvia and Mo, like both of you we have a lot of things that mean a lot to us but not to anyone else. Especially some stuff that we inherited from our parents, uncle and aunties houses, nothing really valuable, but of sentimental value to both Alun and myself.

Mo and Ann, yes the boards are certainly a lot slower and at times a bit boring, but it would be a shame not to bother posting at all, as it is nice to catch up with each other and to be here for anyone who is feeling down or having problems.

Well ladies I will say goodnight now. Speak soon.

Mo in Kent Report 23 Jul 2014 21:29

Hello girls,
Good to catch up on your news.
Sylvia, like you, I think we all have a lot of things that our families wont want, when we are no longer around.
It's funny, but yesterday, I was going through some old photo's from when my children were very young.
I discovered all their medical records of their immunisations, when they were babies.
Some of the school reports, even baptism cards.
Good lord, I have saved some of them for nigh on 50 years.
I have sorted them out, with their names on the front of the envelopes, so that they can see them when we are gone.
The amount of champagne glasses, and other crystal glass ware we recieved for our 40th wedding anniversary, are still in boxes in a cupboard.
The family are not going to want glasses that are enscribed " On your 40th Wedding Anniversay" LOL

Oh Sallie, you are a nut case why would I be offended by your remarks my love, when I totally agree with what you are saying.
Why have children, if you are not prepared to love and care for them.
Especially these days, when there are precautions available, to prevent pregancy, and god forbid...abortion, if the circumstances are dire, and mother or baby at risk.
Not like in our ancesters times, when a large family was the norm, but not always what families wanted.
My Mum was one of thirteen, and there was a lot of infant deaths between my Mum and her siblings.

Ooh Ann, please wish T a very happy birthday for today. I hope he's had a lovely day.
I wonder if the Roman, you visited is the same company as the one bought my wedding outfit from.
They do some lovely clothes, and are very stylish in as much a they cater for us senior ladies, and not teenagers.
The boards are definately becoming slower, and at times rather boring. It is so nice to catch up with each other though isn't it, even though there might be a few days when circumstances prevent us from doing so.

Well my friends, I will say cheerio for now. Take care, Mo

Hi Mo, and everyone

YAY!!!

much cooler weather today, and periods of rain :-)

It's about 17 / 18C outside .............. which is a huge change from the 30C of the last 2 weeks.

I hope it soon cools down for you guys!!

although I must say that the hot weather is expected to be back here by the weekend

Sallie ................ we are trying to find places for the pictures!! It is our own fault .............. we were asked if there was anything we would like to have, and "Please take it"!!!!

It has set us to thinking that we have lots of "stuff" that no-one else is likely to want ................ little things, paintings, pottery, wood objects that we have picked up at various places as mementos. They mean a lot to us ..................... but not to anyone else!

The next time my daughter comes to stay ............ I have asked her to go round the house and say what she would really like to have and what she really does not want. Then we can look at getting rid of, or passing on to others, the things she does not want.

take care everyone

Sorry sorry. We are fine T's 76th birthday today so we had a day out to Evesham country park and visited no fewer than three garden centres. Had lunch in one so not eaten much this evening. Didn't buy much, although did manage a blouse in Leading Labels (Roman), which has a shop on the complex at the country park.

No real excuse for not posting, a bit of a combination, the heat, the garden, some family concerns and general apathy with the boards being a bit boring. I have posted on the Welsh thread though. :-)

Mo, pleased to know that your neighbour is a bit better and out of hospital....but of course has to take it easy over the next few days, at least.

Yes, I agree Lilly is playing up because of the new baby, and her mum is making things worse by ' passing her off ' onto others. Roly's right, you daughter in law must learn to cope herself with both Lilly and Ava, thousands of mums have to, as we all did when we had ours. My feelings are, that if they want children they must learn to look after them and not forever pass them onto grandparents, to do their job.
I hope I haven't offended you Mo by saying that, but I do feel strongly on that subject.LOL!!

Sylvia, pleased that you and OH enjoyed your few days away at your friend's. Hope you have found some room for the gifts from your friend.

We keep saying that we are going to sort out some of the things we have here and hopefully get rid of some things. I'm sure like you and everyone that has been married as many years as we all have, we have far too much and when it comes to a special anniversary or Christmas we tend to hope that we won't get anything, like photo frames, cutlery etc...... as we already have more than enough. We are not ungrateful for what we get bought, just haven't got room.lol!!

Jean. have you and J managed to get out for a couple of trips in your new car yet?Hope you have, as it's been just the weather for a car ride.

Well our car is still not right, they sorted out one problem but then found another one, something to do with the air bag, but I'm not sure what. One thing I know that is costing us a good bit of money. Alun has to take the car in on Monday, to have it done AGAIN! and hopefully this time it will be right, then he is thinking about changing it. So we will wait and see.

Huia, I hope that you are okay, I'm sure I seen you post on one of the threads that your finger is not getting better and that you needed more antibiotics. Hope that the new ones are starting to work for you now.

Ann, how are things with you and T? Hope that you are both okay, as we haven't heard from you for about a week.

With the weather being so nice I expect you you been out in your garden.

We spent most of the day in the garden yesterday, my cousin and her daughter came yesterday morning until today, so we made the most of the garden yesterday.

Marie and Elizabeth, hope that all is well with you both and your families.

Well will chat again soon. Take care everyone.

Hi Mo, and everyone

back home again!!

We had a great time ...................... no WiFi access in the Cottage, so no internet access

Our friend had lost a lot of weight in the late winter / early spring, when she was very depressed ............... she went down to about 82/83 lbs. She's now back up to about 92 lbs ............... but that is about 15 lbs too light for her.

She is looking at condos to move into ......... she's realised the house and garden are way too big for her. She has seen 2 condos that she likes ................ both are ground floor, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living / dining room, den and kitchen.

Meanwhile, our other friend is now the proud owner of TWO places .............. and hoping that one of them sells quickly!

His new place is really nice .................... and HUGE. It covers 1500 sq ft ......... which is larger than the main floor of our house.

We came back with 3 more paintings, 1 beautiful large wooden bowl carved out of Bigleaf Maple, and a couple of books ........ all gifts from our friend

Now we have to find room for them all.

The weather cooled off while we were away .............. it was so much more pleasant for sleeping!

The hottest day we had here was just under 30C in the shade in the back garden. That was HOT!

We even had a little rain .................. the gardens loved that :-)

we could really do with a downpour like some of you have had :-)

Mo ................... Lilly is probably reacting to the new baby .......... plus the fact that her mother is "passing her off to other members of the family".

She'll be feeling unwanted, so no wonder she's acting up.

Glad to hear that your neighbour is home again.

Hope everyone is well, or as well as they can be xxx

take care everyone

Mo in Kent Report 22 Jul 2014 19:29

Hi girls,
Sallie, our neighbour is home again now. He had open heart surgery a couple of years ago, and the hospital, after many tests, say that he had pulled the places where the surgery was done, and that has caused the heart attack symptoms.
He has got to get a lot of rest over the next few days, and not go searching through drawers, for a sleeping bag, as he did when he twisted himself, causing all the problems.
Like Roly and myself, he is not getting any younger, he is well into his 70's, and this came as such a shock to himself and his wife, as he seemed so well after his surgery.
But thank the lord he is now on the mend.

Jean, Lilly is fine, she is a proper little monkey since the new baby arrived.
At nursery, they have had to move her into an older age group class, as she kept bullying the younger ones. Now she was not this before Ava was born, and I know that this is no excuse for her behaviour, but it must affect her, as the new baby has to come first, and she is I believe, feeling left out.
She is normally as good as gold, when she is with us, but Roly has put his foot down, and says that their mum, must learn to cope on her own, and not keep passing Lilly onto other members of the family, as she has been doing, so that she can get a bit of respite and sleep.
His attitude is, that if I could cope with two children, who were born just a year apart, then she should be able to, and she is older than I was at the time.

Well my friends, take care, sending love and best wishes to, Sylvia, Marie, Huia, Ann and Elizabeth.

Hi girls,

Sorry not been on here for a few days, I have been quite busy, helping Alun to get the stairs, hall and landing painted. We are having our new carpet fitted tomorrow morning, so thought we might as well give it a coat of paint so that it will all be fresh and clean.

I've also been making some birthday and anniversary cards, and have managed to give the house a good clean. My cousin and her daughter living in N Wales, are coming over tomorrow morning until Wednesday, so looking forward to seeing them.

Our car still isn't sorted, Alun took it in to the garage this morning but they are keeping it until at least tomorrow, just hope that they will be able to sort it for us.

Mo, lovely to see you posting again, I hope that things are getting a bit better each day for you.

Also hope that your friend is feeling a bit more comfortable now. I'm sure she appreciated the trip out for a coffee, it was a nice change for her.

How is your neighbour now? I hope that they are improving.

Jean, we have had a few thunderstorms here, it seem to cool the air down for a short while and then it gets hot once again within a few hours.

I'm sure you enjoyed seeing C over the weekend, they are such a delight.

I have done a good bit of washing and ironing today, so at least I am a bit more organised now. Ironing and cleaning windows are my least favourite jobs. LOL!!

Huia, hope that you are okay, I haven't seen you on the boards just lately.

Also hope that things are not any worse for Phil at the moment.

Ann, Luke looks gorgeous, I can't get over how much he's grown, he's a real little boy now, bless him.

Sylvia, hope all is well with you and your OH. Hope you enjoyed your few days away visiting your friend.

Marie, hope that you and yours are all well.

Elizabeth, you are always welcome on here, it's nice to hear from you. Hope that you and your family are all well.

Well, it's past my bedtime, so will speak to you all again soon.

Take care everyone.
