AnninGlos Report 28 Mar 2011 21:21

Nobody has been on here since yesterday, where is everyone?

The anarchists (Yobs) have threatened to do the same during the Royal Wedding celebrations. I hope the police have them more under control. Maybe the shops should board up their windows. In the photo in the paper today the aggression on the face of one young lad who is attacking a policeman with a stick is appalling. Fancy looking in the paper and seeing your son/grandson doing that. (Or maybe they will be proud of him).

SylviaInCanada Report 27 Mar 2011 21:50

Hi all
xxx

yes Mo, we saw that on our TV .......... there seem to be a group of what our police often call anarchists who go around the world to where a demonstration is planned, and then they try to take it over by rioting and causing damage.

There were peacful protests in Vancouver around the opening of the the Winter Olympics ............... several of those yobbos tried their tricks during the opening, were surrounded by police and prevented. Then the next day, they went right into the centre of the shopping district breaking windows, overturning cars, threatening passersby, ..................... and were discombobulated when passersby set about putting things to rights! Then the police surrounded them again ....... and the rioting was over in short order.

We are in election mode here ...................... the minority Conservative government was defeated on a Vote of Non-confidence on Friday. They want it to be seen as a vote against the Budget which they had introduced on Tuesday (but not yet been debated). In fact, the vote was because they had been found guilty of Contempt of Parliament

.............. the first ever Commonwealth government to be defeated on a vote of non-confidence for that .......... rather a dubious honour!

Voting Day is May 2nd ................ and it looks as though it might well be another Minority Conservative Government. We have 3 Opposition Parties ...... one is active only in Quebec, but the other two are NDP (close to Labour, but milder!!) and Liberal .................... and they unfortunately often divide the vote, thus letting the Tory come up the middle and win a riding!

We have our Census on May 10

Well Huia, you know what ButtercupFields is like, she gets everywhere, so who knows if it was her or not. LOL

You are right no Party knows the right path to lead, or the answers to the financial problems.
But it's always the poorer people who suffer.

Huia Report 27 Mar 2011 20:45

Hi there all. Yes, Mo, I saw the riots on the news last night. I wondered if ButtercupFields was the woman in the green t shirt with the mauve thing round her neck! She had been talking on Daff's thread about wearing bile green with other colours.

Conservative, Labour, there is no real difference between them. They do not have the answers to the financial problems.

Mo in Kent Report 27 Mar 2011 16:57

Good afternoon girls. It's 4.30 p.m Sunday evening. Well it's that time the
moment, but by the time I am finished typing it will be much later.

Sylvia, what colour did you decide on for the kitchen paint, at the end of the day.
I am pleased for that your OH has now started it.
Did the guys singing the aria look like a lot of penguins, dancing in their tails like that.
The wonderful dancer Fred Astair comes to mind, dancing in top hat and tails.

Tess we have a big park, about a ten minute drive away from us. But the one that they have furnished with the exercise equipment, is what is known locally as "The Wreck ", a very apt name I must say.
It is just a field, that the local footballers use for their matches. It HAD a wonderful play area, for the younger children to use, until such time as the yobs took hold there. The swings ended up being wound round the top rail, the slide were full of glue and graffitti, and the round about was ruined.
The police were for ever being called, becuase fighting had broken out between local thugs, or drug abusers were using the toilets.
Not a pleasant place to be, and parents stopped their children from going to play there. Such a shame really, when a lot of children these days don't get enough excercise, being stuck in front of the t.v or on computers.

Marie, after the children had gone yesterday, the hoover had to come back into use again. They got biscuit crumbs, and crisps all over my carpet.
My grandson had just got back from football training, and had to jump in the bath to come here, as he was covered in mud.
Consequently, he had had no lunch, my grandaughter had had hers, and he was starving bless him.
Good ol nan, made him a couple of rolls and some crisps, that he thoroughly enjoyed. But madam didn't want to be left out, and insisted that she was hungry, but not hungry enough to eat a roll, so she had crisps and biscuits instead.
It's amazing we still come in handy, when a hungry belly comes into the equasion. I hate to admit it, but of all my grandchildren, he is my favourite. I know we should not show favouritism, but he lived with us for such a long time, when he was a baby, and he became very close to both of us.

Did your news in OZ, NZ and Canada, show the people demonstrating in London against David Cameron and the Conservative party, re all the changes they are going to initiate over here. Thousands attended, but some lunatics decided to spoil it, by causing riots.
These are what the papers are calling "The middle class mob". They came armed with Batons, and ammonia-filled light bulbs, and smashed into Fortnum@ Masons, and the Ritz hotel in Piccadilly.
These people are not the ones who are going to be affected, by the increases the government are bringing in. It's the likes of many of our members on here, who are going to be affected.
Must get down from my soap box now LOL

I hope that everyone are enjoying their weekend.
Take care my friends. Love to you all. Mo xxx

Hello Girls, It is Sunday 10 past 9 pm daylight saving time.

Hi,Sylvia before I forget "Girls girls girls' is from the musical South Pacific.
and what a great musical it was
Hi Theresa you are very lucky to live close to good amenities.

Hello Mo, I know how you feel it seems that every time I decide to wash my floors and then polish them the grandchildren arrive they let the dog in and he slips and slides everywhere and scratches my floor.
The weather was a bit cool to-day the wind was quite cold unusual for Autumn, our springs are always very windy and cold.

I spent this afternoon playing my Piano and singing some of my old music , I had a most enjoyable time LOL
Mo only one of the girls that was in our quartet lives in Barhurst the others all live elswhere.

I agree with you Huia it's a pain having to change all the clocks, the one in the car takes me for ever to change,I usually get around to it months later., mind you I often give myself a fright when I happen to look at the timeand I am in a rush to get to an appointment, the word S--t is often heard.

Well the labour party got a thrashing in the elections,I think it will be years before they get back in , a hard lesson for them.
People were so angry with them for selling off our electricity.

Hello to Ann, Sally, Linda, Liz, Marilyn, and our lovely Jean I hope your vertigo is abatting, also Cazz and Dutch I hope dutch and Jan are feeling better.
Love to you all

Tess, that sounds rather funny, talking about 'the toilet situation' and in the next paragraph 'I am very glad to have use of a great local park', which is 'well used by all age groups'.

I hate having to change most of the clocks. I no longer have to bother with the one on the stove as I turn it off at the wall each night, so the clock is always wrong anyway. I used to have to change it, but there is the one in the bedroom, one in the living room, the one for the tv/recorder, one in our vehicle. At least the one on the computer automatically adjusts itself, although one time it was a week late doing so. By the time I go round changing the clocks before I go to bed, it is just about time to get up again! And I forgot to mention my watch. Then in about 6 months I have to change them all over again.

Mo, sorry to hear that your local park has been taken over by drug users etc.
Seems rather silly too that the toilet situation hasn't been sorted out before now.

I live in an inner city area and am very glad to have use of a great local park (when I am well enough).

It is well used by all age groups, has a Leisure Centre and a couple of childrens play grounds, as well as a boating pool and a Cricket Ground (is that the correct word), with pavillion. Plenty of benches to sit on too.

It has felt rather like a Sunday here today for me. Not really sure why, but maybe because it has been rather quiet on the road and there were no Premier Football Games on today.

I am off to bed now, will put my (non-electronic) clocks forward before I go.

It is now 22.44 in England

2:46 pm PDT (ca 9:46 pm GMT)

it was so warm this morning that I found out a short sleeved top, and wore that isntead of a longsleeved turtle neck!

Mo ..... we had a great time at the ball. I didn't dance, but it was lovely watching everyone else, and listening to the Big Band music at the same time. The food was good, and the students did a wonderful job of entertaining us (showing off their skills lol!!) during dinner.

7 of the guys sang an aria called Girls Girls Girls from (I think) The Merry Widow .......... and ended by doing the can can. It was hilarious! Especially as they were dressed in white tie and tails!

OH is busy painting in the kitchen .......... it's slowly getting finished!

take care

Mo in Kent Report 26 Mar 2011 11:30

Morning everyone, it's 11.10 here Saturday morning, it's dry and bright, the sun is trying to break through, and the washing is out on the line.
The whole house has been blitzed from top to bottom, and I am feeling very happy with myself.I have worked like a trajan to get it all done.
And guess what, my son will be arriving soon, with three of my grandchildren soon. LOL. If I had known they were coming I would have left it till tomorrow.

Oooh Marie, how great you are getting back to your singing. I know how much you have enjoyed doing it over the years. Will your friends from your quartet be joining you in this.
Are you still seeing your physio for treatment on your knee. I am also wondering if you are still going to the gym, just for easier excercise I mean, not putting stress on your knee.

Sylvia, you are so clever working out the time differences. It may be an idea if we post what time of day it is, when we are posting, that may stop all this confusion.
By the way, how did the ball go. Did you have a nice time.?

Huia, it's so nice to hear that Phil aknowleged (sp) you, it shows that he does still have some memories of your times together.
Will you be seeing anything of your children soon. I know that your son does pop up to see you quite frequently, even if he does scare the life out of you at times, by springing up in the most unusual places. LOL

When I was in town a few weeks ago, I did a survey with a young lady, who is at a local University.
She was asking questions about an excercise area for the elderly, that they had built in our local park.
When asked if I would like to take advantage of it, I declined. My reason being that the park is used by the local drug takers, and a lot of youngsters who are trouble makers.
Who wants to attend such a place, for the hooligans to take the mickey out of them.
Now had it been errected, in a private area, especially for the use of the elderly, I would no doubt have at least had a go.
In the post yesterday, I received an invitation from the young lady who did the survey, to attend a training day at the said location, on a day in April.
Now will I be going, NO, I don't think so.
There are no toilets available in this area either, they had to closed due to drug users, and prostitutes.
I am just wondering why the powers that be, did not ask the people who should be able to take advantage of the scheme, where they thought it should have been placed in the first place, before erecting it.
Beurocracy gone mad, me doth think.

Well girls, thats enough of me spouting off. Got to go and prepare myself for the onslaught.
Oh and it's now 11.30 a.m it's taken me ages to type this. LOL

Huia Report 26 Mar 2011 06:14

I visited Phil today just after lunch today. He was actually talking to me at times. Not that I could hear him properly as he has such a quiet voice, and there was another resident talking to herself the whole time, plus other noises. Still, at least he was talking to me. I didnt hold his hand. The nurse said they got the doc to look at him last week and they decided to treat him for scabies. I dont know if they were sure he had it, or if they were just taking precautions in case I had given it to him with previous hand-holding.

The weather has turned wet and windy. There is apparently a tropical cyclone on its way, although they are usually downgraded to a depression by the time they get here, but I can stay indoors tomorrow.

phew!!!

I used to try to phone my friend in Mudgee NSW about 8 pm on a Saturday evening, and it would be about 3 pm on Sunday afternoon ........ and they'd be relaxing in the shade on their little patio!

Hello to everyone,
Hi Huia, yes you are right the Silver eyes do love figs but they dont get much of a look in here as the starlings are a much bigger bird and frighten the little silver eyes away, also the blackbirds are a nuisance as well.,i dont have a fig tree now but I have had them and they seem to go alright when pruned I think I would wait until spring to prune.

As I am writing this, it is Midday daylight saving time,i THINK WE CHANGE NEXT WEEKEND ALSO.

Our state election is on to-day the prediction is that Labour will get a thrashing.
My leg is a little better but i have been warned by the physio that I must still rest .

Hi Bridget the fidget , it is nice to see you popping in
.
Hi Jean sorry to hear that your vertigo is still with you Try not to stress out my dear, as one who knows it doesnt help.

I dont know if I told you all, that I am a member of the University of the 3rd.age and in the 2nd term I will be starting a group for Singing it will be some instruction in breathing also word as sung but the whole aim is for all to enjoy what we do , last night I sat and went through some of my music it took awhile and I still have boxes in the Garage unpacked also a large brief case of Chior music. the class will only be about 8 to 10 voices .I am looking foward to the experience.(explaination U3A is entirely made up of people over 60 yrs.)

Hi Mo and Roly you sound very chipper I do hope you get your garden furniture painted while you have good weather I can only look at mine at the moment , it needs some replacement of some of the timber but I can't get out to( "Bunnings" our bigest hardware chain.) to pick some up.maybe next weekend.I hope LOL

Mo, I didnt take offence at your comments, but since Sylvia was the only one on here who guessed that silvereyes were birds, I thought that perhaps nobody else knew much about scabies either. I certainly didnt until I got it and I googled the site I was given.

Our clocks go back an hour next weekend, I think, so for a little while we will be 12 hours apart. After that it will be 11 hours, I think. The change of times always has me confused for a while. The time here now is 11.08 a.m. on Saturday.

Hi there girls.

Huia, give them darned rats a BIG dose of poison love, they have lodged at your home for long enough, and have outlived their welcome.
Those bloomin Scabies mites, are a nuisance to get rid off arn't they.
I meant no disrespect when I said about deep cleaning the house love.
And I genuinely wondered if the rats had bought the mites into the house.
Please forgive me if my comments upset you.
I wonder why your cat had changed her feeding habits, and wanting to be outside all the time. Is she getting on in years now. Before we lost our cat, last year, she wanted to be outside more, but we thought nothing of it, as she was always an animal that preferred to be in the garden, only coming in when she was hungry. But in the end she had a heart attack, and cancer. We still miss her terribly.

Like you Tess, I still have an aunt alive and she has got to be well into her
90's now. My cousin keeps me updated on her, as I have not seen her in well over 49 years, and she is quite frail.
I often think it would be nice to see her, but I am afraid that the shock might kill her, as the last time I saw her,I was only 16 years old.

Hello our Jean. I'm saddened to hear that you are still suffering with that
blasted Vertigo. I suppose it's an advancement that it's affecting you on your left side, when you are in bed, and not when lying down in general.
Mind you, no matter how we try to stay in one position in bed, we still tend to turn in our sleep. We will have to get J to tie you in one position in the bed so that you can't turn over. (Ooops that sounds rather cheeky doesn't it ) No saucy thoughts please ladies, keep it clean.

Not long now Ann, till you go to Tenerife. I will have to get your T to give Roly some tips about getting started on painting the garden furniture.
This is the best weather to get it started, but I can see me still waiting this time next year, before he gets up the energy to get going. LOL

Hello Caz. It's sad to hear that Joyce and Jan are still not good. They have had so much go wrong this year all ready haven't they. I hope that a member of the family can go and get their shopping for them, they shouldn't have to worry when they are both incapacitated. It's about time someone did something for them for a change.

Don't forget our clocks change this weekend, we lose another hours sleep
ooh I hate it when they change like this. We just get used to things, and wham we either go forward or backwards an hour.

We had our coucil tax bill in today, shock horror. Not that it has been increased, but they have our savings down as a huge amount. Roly has spent nearly half an hour on the phone trying to get through to them.
We have now got to send bank and building society statements to them, for it to be corrected.
How do they think that any major repairs get done, in our homes. They have to be paid for by us. And we obviously have had to fork out for a new central heating system, and Kitchen, so our savings have been reduced greatly.
Do they think that these things come free or what. LOL Everyones savings are going to dwindle, the way the economy is at the moment.
Right thats my moan over.

Bye for now girls. Love Mo xxx

Hi girls, I spoke to Joyce on Wednesday but she wasn't very well nor Jan. As you know jan has pnuemonia(sp) and he was laid on the couch rattling away in his chest when he breaths, he has to stay off work for this week. Joyce is still in a lot of pain with her back and feet, when she bumped into the bridge with her scooter last weekend she pulled a muscle in her back. The pair of them are really down and don't know how to do the shopping tomorrow, they take Jan's mum for her shopping as she needs help as well so it's all a bit of a pickle at the moment. I will be ringing her tomorrow for our weekend chat so will find the latest news of them both.
I'm hoping Liz is alright I haven't seen her on here today and she always puts something on.
