Morning folks, sorry I havent been on for a bit, just overtired, and still haveing the odd dizzy spell but nothing like before...
Sallie I havent done any crafting for well over a week, I did however manage to take a huge bagful of cards to our local hospice so have lightened my load of card stock, still too many. though it seems a bit pointless doing many more at the moment...

We have been trying to get a break away but the places we want to go to are all booked up , so we will try again after the bank holiday.... June may be a little quieter....

The meet went well it seems, and Joyce had a great surprise when Liz turned up... so that would have lifted her spirit.... sorry to read about Judes friend and pray she is getting better by the day....

Sylvia sorry you havent been too well hope things improve for you...

The weather is rotten here ... rainy, and chilly enough that we have the heating on in the house again! And tomorrow is a Stat holiday!


Sallie ..... I'm feeling much better, thank you. It has left me with little energy though, and i soon get tired. Amazing how much it took out of me!

I did do the right treatment though ....... stayed in, drank lots of water, kept warm, etc.


Like Huia, it would be so nice to be able to attend meets with people. We did manage to get back to England for a Friends Reunited meeting back in June 2008, held in York. I think OH enjoyed himself meeting all these crazy people .......... especially as he wasn't the only "partner". It lasted 3 days, so we had plenty of time to chat.

Then we drove up to the Heversham area and traced some of OH's dead rellies (in the graveyard), and found the house where his grandmother was raised.


Have no idea when our next trip to the UK will be, though. We had intended going to Australia this year, but have postponed that trip, hopefully only until next year.

Hi Huia, I saw the mistake I made in the spelling, was going to change it, and then forgot about it.lolol!!

I hope your new hearing aids will be successful for you this time-----I had an in the ear one, but it kept falling out, so decided to go for inand over the ear type. If you know what I mean?

The church in Staffs looks nice, I'd like to see it, with it having an octagonal tower.


Hope all is well with Phil when you visit him today or tomorrow.


It's very quiet on here today, I wonder where Mo and Jean are.

Ooooh, Sallie, a bother-in-law and a brither-in-law. I dont have any of those, just a couple of brothers-in-law.

I am trying to decide whether to visit Phil this morning before I go to work in the hospice shop, or visit him tomorrow.

I get my new hearing aids on Friday, the in-the-ear ones. I hope I like them better than my current ones.

Sylvia, hope you are feeling much better now. As you read the meet went well, there was so much to say to each other, that we didn't stop talking.lol!!




Huia, it's such a shame that we live so far apart , it would be really nice if we could meet up with all our friends on here.

My friend Janet, goes to have her toe nails cut, I think every six to eight weeks. She pays about twenty five pounds to get them done. I can still do my own at the moment , thank goodness......but for how much longer that's the question.lol!!

Hope all was okay with Phil when you visited him last, and that he was able to respond to you.



Ann, hope you and T are enjoying your week at Dorset and that the weather is good for you. Take care and hope the rest of the week goes well for you both.




Linda,nice to see you on here again, pleased that you and hubby enjoyed your holiday. Scotland is a lovely place. Alun's niece is married to a Scotsman, They have two little boys, and live in Pitlochry. Alun's sister and bother-in-law live in Yorkshire but they also have a house in North Berwick that they use quite a bit. Brither-in-law has suffered from Alzheimers for seven years, since he was fifty eight, so Lynda finds it nice for her and hubby to spend time there.

Yes, Jude is a very nice and friendly person, it would be nice to meet her again sometime. I received a pm from her this morning, she's thankful that she visited her friend yesterday morning and that she her friend recognised her.

Mo, it looks as though you and Roly enjoyed your time with your three grandchildren yesterday. You are lucky, I wish that Alun and I had some, but at the moment I can't see that happening------I think if we do have any
I'll be too old to play with and enjoy them.lol!!

Alun and I are going to visit Richard tomorrow until Wednesday night, so might not be on here until Thursday . I have an apponitment at the doctors on Thursday morning, I'm slowly coming off my medication, but have noticed that I'm fine on the days I don't take one, but depresssed and anxious on the days I take them. So have to go and sort it out.


Jean, hope you, J and D are okay. Have you made any more cards lately?

I have some to go on Ann's blog, but with her being away and with Jude being in Derbyshire' I'll have to wait at least a few days. There's no rush anyway!

I have to go on Thursday afternoon to pick up the hearing aid for my other ear. I just hope that I can cope with wearing one in each ear.




Marie, hope you are a lot better and that the scabs from your cold sores have now gone.

Is there anymore news about your granddaughter's scan yet? I hope it all goes well and the results are good.

Gi all, Tess I was sent to the pain clinic as FM is very painful but more to do with Rhumatism than arthritis. They talked me through it and put me on morphine, it does help a bit.
I have just had a phone call from Liz, she is coming up to see me this dinnertime, it will be lovely to see her, and what a surprise. Liz Sally and Dutch phoned yesterday from the meet so it was lovely to "join" in with them even though I was woke up from a deep sleep.
I had a bad fall this morning and hurt my bad hip so not going to pick my glasses up this week, they can wait.
Can't sit much longer so will leave it at that.

I am pleased to read that some of you were able to get together and see the people that we all feel we know so well.
I do hope that Jude's friend is not too bad, I met Jude 18 months ago and she is so friendly.
Well it is another lovely day in the south east, though it did rain overnight. Much needed by the look of the garden. We are just back from a 5 day holiday in Scotland and I must get out and sort the garden over the next few days.
I am retiring at the end of this week so will be in a new stage of my life. Need to think about what to do with my time and do some things I have never tried too.

Sally, I am so envious of you being able to meet up with people I 'know' through this site.

Tess, I go to have my toenails cut about once every couple of months. I go to a podiatrist, and it costs me $60 which would be roughly 30 English pounds, maybe less. I am not sure what the exchange rate is at present. He cuts the nails really short (shorter than I ever did) and trims off some of the hard skin under my feet, and applies some sort of oil or cream. I gave up cutting my own as I have trouble bending to do them (fat tummy!) and my scissors werent sharp enough for the tough nails.

I should be doing the washing today. I slept in until after 10, as I had trouble getting to sleep last night and finally took half a sleeping tab just after 2 a.m. Better go and do the washing now, and have lunch later.

Huia, hope that you enjoyed having your toenails cut. I had a delux pedicure plus eyebrow shaping (using tweezers) on Thursday 19th. at my local college. All for the princly sum of £7

A lovely bit of pampering. A pedicure won't deal withcors, bunions etc. but they wiil deal with dry and hard skin. You get a foot spa treatment as well as a lower leg masage. and your nails trimmed etc before polish is put on them. A lovely bit of pampering.

Sylvia, hope that you bronchitis has gone for good. It is nasty isn't it? and very tiring too. I remember a time when brandy was recommended as a treatment (or is that wishful thinking?)

Caz, have you had specialist advice for your FM?
I went to a talk last Thursday evening given by a lady from BARC - Birmingham Arthritis Research Centre. She said that there re around three hundred types of Arthritis. I am pretty sure that she mentioned FM.
They have loads of infornmation leaflets as well as someone there to talk to.
It is located in Birmingham but is THE centre for the whole country (Apparently they get a lot of people from Scotland using their service).

Let me know if you are interested in their details and I will PM them to you.
Won't be till Sunday now, as it is nearly bedtime.

Lovely to hear about the meet, Sallie, great that Joyce and Liz Purple were able to go. It must have been good for them to get away. Great too that you were able to meet Joyce's grand-daughters and their children. Perhaps now thaey will get interested in their Family History. Especially as they see that their nan isn't the only one researching, and it does help to open up a new world.

Hello girls.
Tess, my youngest son is 34, he was the only one born that I hadn't had to suffer the awful indignaties I had had,with the four previous births.
In the sixties and early seventies, all women in this area had to undergo these things.
The hospital itself was soooo ancient, they only had two loo's,and one bath for the whole of the maternity wing.
When they closed it down, they built a whole new housing estate in the grounds.
The new maternity unit is in a brand new annex, added onto the old military hospital. If you google Medway Maritime hospital, you will see how old it is.
The new part of the hospital has been added onto the back of the old one.

Sallie, I am pleased you all had a lovely time at the meet. And with Liz turning up like that, it was the icing on the cake.
I bet Joyce really enjoyed seeing you all.
What a shame that Jude had to leave under such sad circumstances. I hope her friend rallies round,and doesn't suffer to badly.

We have been to see my sons three children today.
When we arrived, they were all outside doing the garden. Guess who got roped in to help, yes me.
But it was nice having the eldest two helping, whilst baby Lilly sat and watched us. Give her three years, and I will have her helping as well, bless her.
Even though I was wearing rubber gloves most of the time, I think I must have an allergy to one of the weeds I pulled out, as my hand and wrist have got a rash on them. I have put plenty of anti-histamine cream on them and that is helping with the itching.
I am really exhausted now though, and can't wait to get into my bed.

Hello Girls,

Well the Sheffield meet went well, nice food, and lovely company.There should have been seven of us there, but Annina suffered a bad migraine just before she was due to set out to meet us, so couldn't make it, which was a pity!

Jude was the first to arrive at the pub, but after about a hour and a half, she had to leave as got a phone call, telling her that her friend had suffered another stroke and things are not looking good for her. Still it was nice meeting her, even though it was for a short time.



Joyce was thrilled when Liz Purple arrived, it was a lovely surprise, as Liz had told Joyce that she couldn't make the meet, with it being too far to travel. Lovely to meet Liz at last.

Also, nice to meet Sheila and her friend, both living in Yorkshire----both of them very nice ladies.


Joyce's two granddaughters and their children came along to say hello to us all and to have a meal. It's nice to be able to put a face to everyone when we hear about them or talk to them on here.



I hope all our friends on here are okay. I'll speak to you all tomorrow, going to have a cuppa now and hoping to have an early night.

Hi everyone, sorry for staying away, and then for just posting a few lines on my previous entries.

Marie, sorry I missed your birthday. I hope you have a very happy x x years and 10 days day. Go on, live it up. Your owls sound great, do you, like me, sometimes talk to them? (or am I the only mad one on here?)

As to having babies now and then, I was not given an enema when I had my son in a maternity home 37 years ago (can't remember if I was shaved - but don't think I was). I left hospital after five days.

My sons partner left hospital six hours after giving birth to her third child. She counted down the hours and couldn't wait to get home. She didn't make it to the hospital with her second child, he was born at home in the bath. She was checked over by the mid-wife there, no need to go to hospital after the birth.

As to places being closed when we visit them. A couple of years ago my son and I took his two younger sons to the local (small) steam railway (not the severn valley Sallie) on Good Friday.
we were all very disappointed to find that they didn't open tll; Easter Monday! Luckily I was able to take the little ones on the main-line train back into Birmingham.

Jean, good to hear that your exercises are helping to control your vertigo. I have found recently that doing Sudoku seeems to help, as scanning the lines and rows is a way of doing the eye exercises. It doesn't always prevent me from staggering about the place though, when I am outside!

I am sure I will find the info. I am trying to find where my dad was living in his pre-marriage life. I will find his parents on the electoral rolls. I have dad's school report for 1909 so that tells me they were in Wellington then, but I would like to know how long they were there. I also have things from Richmond Rd school in Auckland, so that tells me which part of Auckland they were in in that year.
