I quite like the lay out of the new message board but don't know why it takes so long to get on that it often times out and I get the error message. But the whole site has also been slow since they did the adjustment to the message board.

Ye you are right Sallie, going to son's tomorrow. OH is packing warm clothing as he is going to watch MK Dons play football with son and Grandson on saturday, then we shall all go for a meal.

Today we went to Gloucester where down by the docks there is a large Victorian markey which was very good.,

also detoured to M&S outlet centre and have to admit I am very pleased. I found a lovely black straight skirt, with wool, reduced from £35 to £11.99 and There were shorty style jackets, quite thick with big buttons, polyester but feel like wool (OK made in China but seem to be well made) reduced from £39.50 to £19.50. I couldn't decide between red and bright green so OH encouraged me (I needed no second telling) to buy both. And I also bought a red cardigan with small brass like buttons with red centres reduced from £25 to £15. So I feel I did very well. Got a couple of extra Chritmas presents in Pastimes as well as they had everything 50% off.

Thanks Sylvia, I'll have to wit until Alun gets home from the club so that I know what browser we use. I'm afraid I'm not very computer literate.

Shame about the trees blowing down but at least there is no damage to buildings and especially nice that no one has been hurt.

I'll have a look at the Suggestion thread and maybe tell them about the problems I'm having.

Ann I'm sure you said you and T are going to your son's this weekend.
Hope you both have a lovely weekend with your son and his family and have a good and safe journey.

Love, Sallie.xxx

Hi all
xxx

we have another gale coming in .... the rain is here, the wind will follow!

Sallie ........ not much damage to buildings, but lots of trees have been blown over.

We do get a lot of gales in mid-November into December, and then again around February.

I was having problems with the new message system ........ couldn't send any pms.

There is a thread about problems on the Suggestions Board ................ if you would like to post on it, then GR gets to know that more people are having trouble.

I've discovered that I can send pms if I use Mozilla Firefox as my browser. I nrmally use IE6 ..... which is old and way out of date, but I like it. But obviously the new messaging system doesn't like it.

So using IE might be the cause of your problem. It shoudln't matter waht browser you're using ................ but GR doesn't seem able to do that!

Caz, like you I'm so fed up of this site that I'm thinking if it carries on like this I won't even bother to renew my membership in March. Again it's taken me a while to get back on here and again more error messages.

How are things with you? Hope that you are feeling a bit better than you've felt over the last couple of months. Have you felt like making any cards lately.

Alun and I are going up to Ilkley on Saturday to see his sister and brother-in-law, so looking forward to that.
They were going to come to see us at first, but brother-in-law is becoming a bit more agitated so we all thought it might be better for him if he's nearer home.

Well I'll say bye for now, will speak to you soon.

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

No you are not a misery Sallie, I am finding the new message board awful as well, I can send and recieve messages but the old layout was much better. I don't like the new one.
The problem I have with GR is it's so slow lately, this morning I went and made a cuppa while waiting for the page to move to the next one, I came back with it and the page still hadn't changed. I am due to renew my subscription early next year but not sure if it's worth it any more, but there again it's where I keep contact with my friends.

Hello Ladies,

Yesterday I had trouble getting on GR and when I finally did the site was very, very slow and I alsokept getting error messages. And as far as I'm concerned the new messages centre is awful. I know, ' I'm a right old misery '.lolol!!

Huia, glad you and your daughter got the billboards down okay.

It would be nice if you could win the seat or as you say at least get enough votes to get someone from the party in.

It's the same everywhere, people don't bother unless they suffering from the policies that are in.

It's gone cloudy here now, the morning was bright and sunny but windy and cold. I pegged out the washing before going to Derby and so by the time I got home it was dry....just got to iron it now.

I bought some more Christmas presents so only have Richard, Christie and Alun left to get for now. I haven't a clue what to get for R and C, I've asked them but still waiting for them to tell me. Alun is easy to get for, I'm getting him three carriages for his train layout. Little boys and their toys.lolol!!

Mo, have you got a darts match tonight? If you have hope you and your team will win. Keeping my fingers crossed for you all.

Sorry to hear that Roly might have kidney stones, it seems a good while before he gets his xray.

Sylvia, sounds as though you are all suffering from gale force winds over there. I hope the winds haven't caused any damage to buildings, and trees etc.

Hope all is well with you and OH.

I'm going to prepare our dinner ready for later on and then get back to the card makiing, so might look in again later on if GR lets me.

Love and best wishes, Sallie.xxx

I forgot to say, the rain had stopped by the time we went to take down the billboards and it took us just an hour, although I still have nails and staples to remove from things. I was glad to have help though as the winds were strong and the billboards were trying to blow away when they were no longer attached to the timber frames. It wouldnt have been easy for me to get them into the ute on my own.

Sylvia, the election starts on Saturday morning (it is now 5.17pm on Thursday). I already know I wont win the seat. I am just hoping I can gain enough votes for the party to get somebody in. Preferable several, but it doesnt look likely at present. People are not suffering enough yet to start listening to what we are saying.

It is raining here at present. I hope it clears up quickly. My daughter has agreed to help me pull down the last 2 billboards this afternoon. She probably will wish she hadnt agreed, with this weather.

The actual bill board is made of corflute, about 3ft by 6ft, not too heavy. The frame to which it is attached is timber which I will have to dismantle to some extent to get it all in the ute.

Good afternoon ladies.
How are we all this fine but cold day. No snow yet, so lets hope and pray we get away with it this year.
I had to take Roly up to the doctors again today, bless him he is still in a lot of pain.
The doctor is still thinking he has got Kidney stones.
His appointment for his Scan came through for the 7th of December, so much for it being an emergency.

Huia, what are you doing lifting those heavy bill boards in the heat. You will do your self a damage if you are not careful love.
Lucky you having some sun over there, can you send us a few days of it please.

Sallie when my son was at school, he used to do a lot of doodles, like kids do, but nothing on this scale.
When my brother was a child, he wanted to do cartoon sketches, but never pursued the career, he became a general builder instead, doing things with his hands in that direction. Stupid boy could have made a fortune at it, or so I thought at the time. lol ;-)

I am doing us a lovely Sweet and Sour Pork for our dinner tonight. I felt like having something different for a change.
Now Roly would have chips with everything he eats, given the choice that is, so he gets no choice.

I hope you are all o.k, take care. Love Mo xxx

Huia Report 22 Nov 2011 00:52

I went out this morning and dismantled one of our double billboards as it had been knocked over (or blown by the wind?). One of the actual billboards is missing, I think somebody has taken it as the wind cant possibly have blown it so far that there was absolutely no sign of it. Our billboards have to be down by Friday night, so I didnt see any point in trying to put the one up again on my own. It took me a couple of hours to take things apart and get them into the back of the ute to bring home. Hot work in the sun.

Hi Girls,

Oh Mo I couldn't get over how much you had to pay for the second class stamps....I will have to buy the stamps soon too.

I have to get the presents and the cards written ready to give to Alun's sister on Saturday. We have decided that we will go up there this time as Alan (brother-in-law) seems to be getting agitated quite a bit lately, so we all thought that if he's near home when we go out for lunch it will be a bit easier if he get's too bad. Bless him.

Yes Mo it was funny when Daff was asking if we would like to give some plants when she was collecting for Izzy's son. When I first read the thread, I thought I had lost the plot.lolol!!!

Was your son good at art when he was in school? He must be good to draw and paint some of the Winnie the Pooh characters. Well done to him!

Ann, you have done well today, I'm sure you must feel relieved that they are all done, especially the letters. Not one of my favourite jobs I must say.lol!!

I have to go and get two more presents tomorrow for Lynda'sS-i-L's granddaughters, I haven't got a clue on what to buy for them.
Also need to buy some more ribbon so that I can finish a card off.

We haven't heard from quite a few of our friends for a few days, hope all is well with them all and thier families.

Speak to you tomorrow.

Take care!

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

Well today I have made a birthday card for grandson's fiancee, written loads of letters long overdue and wrapped up a couple of Christmas presents. Other than that I don't seem to have done a lot. Oh yes walked round for the papers and decided to post all my foreign cards before the post office develops long queues. I know they will all get there early but at least hopefully they will get there. (Over £8 in postage!!) Good job for the UK ones I had stocked up with second class stamps before they went up in April by buying a couple of books a week. So I only had to buy 4 books for the Christmas cards as I already had the rest.

Mo in Kent Report 21 Nov 2011 15:59

Good afternoon girls,
Another very miserable day here in Kent. Yesterday it was lovely, but this morning we could not see a hand in front of our faces, for the fog. It has been many years since we had a pea souper like this.
If I remember rightly, it was way back in the 1960's since it was this bad.
I dread to think of people travelling to work, on the motorways this morning. I just hope they slowed down, instead of driving like lunatics, in bad weather like it is at the moment.
I know I am a worrier, but my son has quite a way to drive down to Canterbury for his work, and the motorway gets very busy at peak hour times.

Jean it's lovely to have you back with us again. I missed you honey. How the devil are you all.
It sounds like you have been keeping yourself busy with your card making.
Is Jeff still progressing well.
I hope you got on o.k at the doctors, and they were able to give you the answers you were looking for.

Ann, I was thinking of Daff again this morning, and had to chuckle about the time when we were doing the collection for Izzy, and Daff was " Collecting plants for her garden ", what a brilliant woman she was, and oh how she made us laugh at her antics.
She will be sadly missed by us all........but she would not want us to be sad, just happy that we had the joy she bought to us all on here, and those who knew her personally.

Sallie, get the kettle on gal, me thinks we all need cheering up. Put the cards down for a bit and come and have a good ol chinwag with us. ;-)
We went to see our youngest grandchildren over the weekend. Our son has started to decorate the childrens bedroom again for them.
I didn't realise that our son could be so artistic, he has drawn a lot of Winnie the Poo characters on the wall, and painted them in their traditional colours.
He certainly didn't inherit this skill from either Roly or myself, we are not artistic at all.
I was absolutely gob smacked when I looked on my face book wall, and discovered them there.
He's cleverer than I ever gave him credit, and he drew them all free hand, no stencils were used at all.

Well my friends, if Sallies not making this ere cup of tea, I will have to go and make one myself.
So toodle pip for now. Love Mo xxx

Hello Ladies,

Ann yes it was lovely to see that the GR Team took the time to add their condolences to the thread for Daff. It's all so sad, even though I never met her we would sometimes send each other PM's. I hadn't posted on her thread for a long while, although read it most days .... I no longer knew what to write on there.

I've had a very busy weekend, I've bought most of the Christmas presents and wrapped them all....but still haven't written any cards. So today I'm hoping that I can at least start doing that and also make a couple of birthday cards.

Mo, pleased to hear that your team won on Thursday night. Keep it up so that your team will win tonight. Good luck.

Jean nice to see you back on here... you sound just like me, I make the cards the give them to others and then have to make more for myself.lol!!

Huia, it looks as though you are still one very busy lady.

Well I'm going to make a start on the cards now, so may look in again later on.

Love, Sallie.xxx

Such sad news about Daff wasn't it. But isn't it nice that the Genes Team have taken the time to add to her condolences thread, and good to see it stickied as well. She was one popular member of Genes and is so badly missed. But, knowing Daff, I am trying to drag myself out of the doldrums as she would be very cross. Daff never stayed grumpy or miserable for long and would want to know that we were celebrating her life rather than being miserable. So T and I raised a glass or two (or three) to her last night and remembered the good times we'd had when we met her. I am sure this past year have not been very nice for her as she will have been so confused and weak so now she is at peace, no pain and no confusion.
