AnninGlos Report 29 Nov 2011 17:33

Good gracious, where is everyone? Christmas shopping? It is two days since anyone posted. Not a nice day here today, very grey and very wet and windy. we did pop out to the local garden centre but otherwise have stayed home doing not a lot. Can't work up enthusiasm for housework when it all looks so dark and drab. Just stirred myself and made three birthday cards, written a couple of Christmas letters but not done anything else. Was wondering about going into town tomorrow as I have some stuff for the charity shop but wonder if it will be chaotic with the strikes.

Has anyone heard anything from Jean? I hope they have got the problem sorted out.

Heard of another death today - the 4th this year - this time it is a long term (fifty+ years) penfriend from cyprus who apparently died in July. She was not ill for long, had a virus then heart failure, she had led a good life being very adventurous going to all sorts of foreign places on her own. Her annual letters used to entertain me with tales of her travels. She was in her late seventies, I shall miss her letters. I hope that is the last one this year. That is the trouble with getting older, all your friends are as well. Then you begin to wonder when it will be your turn!!

Anyway I hope everyone is OK and that the reason nobody is on here is because you are all busy. :-) :-)

I understand what you mean Ann, you could be right, I don't know how paypal works. I didn't get round to ringing her as my back was so bad I spent most of today laid flat. I will ring her in the morning.

Forgot to say. Joyce thank you for the Christmas card. My first one!!!!

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 27 Nov 2011 13:40

What I meant Caz was that you don't need to carry that amount in paypal as it is very quick and easy to transfer money as you want it. But maybe somebody sent money thatw as not actually in her account. (That sounds weird but I know what I mean, if somebody bought something using her account then paypal would chase her for the money.

What an horrendous night, never stopped raining against the windows and the wind was worse than I've known it for a long time. Glad I'm not going out today as it's still windy.
I will be ringing Jean later today and hope she feels a bit calmer, and also hope she can get her money back. It does sound a lot Ann but she buys an awful lot for her card making as she makes a lot for a couple of charity shops as well.

Huia

I would imagine it would be very hard work, indeed.

You are to be congratulated for trying.

We in BC had to vote some years ago on a referendum for changing our first-past-the post system ........ and the committee came up with this quite terrible mish-mash of variations on your MMP system!

Fortunately, it was voted down ............. although first-past-the post does need changing.

Huia Report 27 Nov 2011 00:36

Sylvia, we used to be a bigger party but due to various other things we are not so big at present. We actually got 21% of the vote nation-wide about 30 years ago, but as we had first-past-the-post voting - no MMP in those days - we had only a couple of seats in parliament, seats which we had actually won. Small parties have proliferated since MMP has been introduced. Unfortunately, unless they put up a candidate the local media will not give them any coverage, and meet-the-candidate meetings are not interested in hearing from a representative of those parties. How are we supposed to get our policies across, unless we take out expensive adverts in the local papers throughout the country, or pay for leaflets to be delivered throughout the country? It is not a level playing field as it should be in a democracy. This is why I became a candidate, so that I could speak at meetings, not that there were many, and be reported in local newspapers, except that the reporters and editors twisted my words to give a wrong impression. Hard work.

Jean ..... I am so very sorry to hear about the loss from your Paypal account. Do hope they can sort it out, and you will get the money back.

Huia ........ that's not bad for a small party!

It's pouring with rain here .............. so hope this doesn't follow the wind Mo, or you'll be wet in bed :-D

Linda ........ what a wonderful find ......... IF you can identify the people!

Good evening everyone
Sorry to hear that Jean has been robbed, beacuase that is really what has happened.
Huia sorry you didn't get lots of votes but 74 shows you have some followers as you thought you would have zero votes yourself.

I have spent the last week decorating my youngest daughters flat with my newly retired hubby. No wonder people say they don't know how they had time to go to work !!! We haven't stopped.

Today I have been with my brothers and sisters trying to empty Mum's flat, as she is now in a care home and we have to sell it to pay for her care. I have many photos, thankfully lots of old ones, but so many with no names, places or dates.
Yesterday I copied some and e-mailed them to a distant cousin, who I had previously found on Ancestry. She sounded pleased, I think they were new to her.
Today I have copeid more, some for my sister as she is interested in Genealogy too. Others for another cousin and I hope she hasn't got these either.

Tomorrow I must clear my own house as I have a wedding reception on 16th December and then Christmas to prepare for too.

Sleep well my friends and lets appreciate the good weather before is is stolen away..

Bad luck Huia, it is what happens to candidates of smaller organisations I guess. But they can't say you didn't try.

Caz, thanks for letting us know. I have never heard of anyone losing money from a paypal account before. And that is a heck of a lot of money to have in your paypal account. I wonder how they accessed it. Unlesspaypal have lost it in some way.

Oh my lord, poor Jean, I bet she is devastated after this happening to her.
I just thank the lord that we don't do any banking of any sort on line.
I just hope that the culprit is caught and punished for putting both Jean and Jeff through this.
Thank you for letting us know Caz. xxx

And Sylvia, ( slap slap, you know you are not to overdo things love.) you will wear yourself out before christmas at this rate. SLOW DOWN woman will you.

It looks like we have got the gale force winds that Sylvia had earlier in the week.
I have put anything that is moveable away out of harms way. I just hope we have a roof in the morning. If I wake to hear the birds singing, I will look to see if they have joined me in my room before I get out of my bed and then look up to see if the bedroom ceiling is still there. lol ;-)

Night Night, God Bless you all Mo xxx

For those who are interested, I was the lowest scoring candidate in this electorate. I received 74 votes. Our party nation-wide received only 0.1% of the vote. I just hope that the people will not suffer too much when the crunch comes. I dont want us to be another Greece/Germany/Italy etc with the financial moguls telling our govt what to do.

Hi girls, I am sat here fuming, Jean has sent me a pm to say she has had £600 taken from her paypal account. Paypal are sorting it out she says but asked me to let you know why she won't be on for a while. Debra is sorting her computer out and we will have to keep in touch by phone or letter she said.

Hi all
xxx

another gale due in tomorrow (Saturday), Mo :-D

Huia ...... hope the vote goes well.

I did a bit too much on Thursday, and am paying for it. It is Fall Graduation at the university, and we went to the University President's Reception for Honorary Degree Recipients on Thursday evening. Less than 2 hours, but we were standing the whole time ...... it's like a cocktail party, but with a few speeches. I got tired, but then this wretched fatigue from the operation struck.

It usually takes a couple of days to go away. And it will gradually get better.

Of course, I don't know whether it has improved or not other than by doing too much :-D :-D

When I visited England in 1997 with my sister and bro-in-law we visited Ilkley briefly. Sis and I put a foot each under a fence into a paddock and sang 'On Ilkley moor' although I dont think it was the real moor.

We also visited Otley where our gt grandmother was born, but unfortunately I didnt have her b cert or know as much detail as I now do.

I have to take the recycling stuff to Hunua this morning, paper, cardboard, plastic, tins. Then of course I have to go and vote. That will make at least 3 votes for me, despite the fact that a poll in our local paper didnt give me any. Maybe the poll will cause a lot of people to give me their vote in sympathy! But I know there will be more anyway.

Good grief Huia, I cant believe your card has arrived all ready, I suppose it's the blessing of sending it a bit early, but I never realised it would be that quick. lol ;-)

Ann, enjoy your weekend at your sons. You will have the opportunity to wear a few of your new cardigans.

It looks like our Sylvia has been bugged by the wind lately. ( not the gaseous belly type I might add. lol)
Just take care when going outside Sylv's we dont want you getting blown away now do we.

Oooh I have just thought, I wonder if I have missed Sallie before she sets of for Ilkey.
Have a safe and enjoyable time both of you.

Bye for now girls, love Mo xxx

Sallie I would suggest if you have any problems with sending/receiving messages that you go to the announcements board and open Phil's technical blog and report it on there as he has a lot on ther about the message board updates.
