Sallie, just saw your name and thought I would be cheeky and answer on here. I never seem to catch up with you for a conversation. I always seem to be caught up on other things.
I have to say that, in my book, your Jennie, is the bravest soul I know, having a Colonoscopy, without any meds. I couldn't. And I never want to watch the screen.
I had one a few years ago, and had some sort of 'pain killer'. But, I could feel everything they did. A later Sigmoidoscopy, was even worse as they gave me even less than the first time.
Now when I have Endoscopy's, me and my Prof. have an arrangement. Befoe I leave the ward, I have a good dose of Morphine. Then when I go down to the unit, he gives me a good dose of Pethedene. When I wake up, I don't know anything has been done. And I don't see the pictures on the monitor. Scardy cat, I am.
Anyway, I keep looking for you in both the garden centres we both use.
One of these days I'll spot you, and have a good catching-up session.
You take Care of Yourself
Good Luck To Jennie

Sallie Report 15 Jun 2012 11:15

Hi girls, thank you all for your good wishes to Jennie, it's nice to know that she is thought about.

Huia, glad that it all went well for you and hope that the results will be nothing to worry about. It was good that you were able to go and do some shopping with your friend after leaving the hospital. Thank you for your good wishes for Jennie.

Ever since Jennie had her first colonoscopy she has always chosen not to have any kind of sedation.....she said she felt so awful after having it that she prefers just to suffer the discomfort while having the colonoscopy. She also likes to look at the screen while she's having it and her consultant tells her what is going on as she is doing it. I thnk Jennie is quite brave to go without any kind of sedation and also to watch what's happening. I'm afraid I'm not a very brave person when it comes to things like that.

Ann hope you have a good and safe journey up to the Lakes. Enjoy your holiday.

Sylvia, like you I don't drive, so have to completely rely on Alun to go anywhere. At least, I have Jennie and Michael living just five miles away so can rely on either of them if I need to. Many times through the years I have wished that I could drive, but it's too late and with so much traffic on the roads now I think it's better and safer that I don't.lol!!

Mo, I wish that they would sort out the problems that both J and Lilly have....it's a big worry for you, Roly and S. It isn't always easy to try and keep thinking on the positive side. Let's hope that it will all soon be sorted.

Well, I'm going to try and go up to town, I need a few things so have to make myself go up for them. Easier said than done, sometimes.

Speak to you all later on.

Take care everyone.

Love, Sallie.xxx

Huia Report 15 Jun 2012 08:04

I think the nurse said they removed one of the polyps for a biopsy but I have a little trouble hearing and I had removed my hearing aids so am not sure. I will have to wait for the final report.

I was fine, Sylvia, after about 30 mins in the recovery room, during which I dozed. No trouble walking. But one of the other women looked quite dozey. I am a tough old bird. Friend and I both did some shopping on the way home and it didnt trouble me walking around a big shop and some others.

For dinner I had half a tin of spaghetti with an egg beaten in, plus half a cup of frozen veg and a bit of cheese melted in it, all put onto a slice of white bread. My throat doesnt feel sore now.

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 15 Jun 2012 06:12

Hi all,

Huia, hope you are feeling ok now and things can be sorted out re polyps, good that they have found them and will get rid of them for you soon I hope. Two friends had the same problem and are ok now they have had them removed.

Good that the hiatus hernia hasn't caused you problems so far and hope you can continue in same vein.

Mo, hope the hospital can decide what is wrong with Lilly, shame the nursery weren't vigilant with the sand pit but hope it will have made them realise they have to be more careful.

O.h.'s father had keyhole surgery on Weds to remove/break up kidney stones that had caused no pain or problem but had been found on a scan when the docs were trying to find out why he has been in such pain in his groin, they think he needs a hip replacement but when he was checked out there were problems with his heart (atrial fibrulation) so he was put on warfarin and that's taken a while to regularise. Now they did this kidney op and because the stone was so big they were digging around and caused a blockage somewhere in the kidney so he has to have a second op soon and won't be home for Father's Day. He is very fed up and annoyed, at nearly 81 he hasn't much patience and hates to be stuck in one place. Add to that that o.h.'s son in USA had to have a knee op so if off work and o.h. has had to send a lot of cash over to help him out and you can imagine the state o.h. is in, he is still not happy over the incident with his d.i.l. while his other son was away working. That son is saying he has to sort it with d.i.l. and of course, o.h. thinks she should apologise (so do I actually ) so things are bit dodgy there. That son is changing his job again and will be commuting to London so away longer every day and will still have to go abroad for times so d.i.l; probably won't be any happier. He says they might have to move nearer London later on so that means d.i.l. will have to leave her part time job (scaled down from her longterm full time job) and won't be near her best mate and her relatives....... heyho, I can see fireworks on the horizon.

I am staying out of it all. My son is getting down because he can't find work and is not happy at coming up to 30. I remember the feeling lol but it was a heck of a long time ago lol I went to his girlfriend's flat last week and met her little lad, we got on well and she adores my son, he is very fond of her but not sure where things will go in the future so just watching and waiting....

Better get to bed, take care everyone

That is good news, Huia!

Did they remove the polyps while they were in there?

I'm glad your friend stayed to bring you home.

OH is usually a bit dopey when I bring him home ..............

......... I don't drive, so I have to collect him from the recovery room, take him in the elevator to the floor above, walk along to the entrance of the hospital, then find the phone that is the direct line to the taxi company. Sometimes there is a taxi in the special area outside, but it only takes about 5 minutes if I have to phone.

I sometimes wonder what I would do if he fell or got woozy! I walk with a cane, have a bad back, and couldn't lift him anyway!

His doctor leaves a little note on the pillow to say what they've found, and what they have done about it if needed.

Huia Report 15 Jun 2012 04:11

Sallie, all my sympathies to Jennie. She has so much more than I have.

I am home, all done and dusted. I didnt get through all the electrolyte last night, I gave up after 800 ml of the litre. I just couldnt face any more. My neighbour took me up to Middlemore this morning, in fact we were travelling as you were typing, Mo. My appointment was for 7.30 a.m. but a fellow who arrived at the same time as I did and whose appointment was for 7.45 was taken through before me, as was another man who arrived after us. Then when I did go through and after the nurse interviewed me and I got into the gown I was left sitting on the bed for ages. Just as well I took my book of sudoku puzzles with me. After the procedure I dozed for about 30 mins in the recovery room, then they took me to sit in an armchair at the end of the room. I asked when I would be able to eat and drink so the nurse brought me a cuppa and 3 dry crackers. They were delish. When I had been waiting in the outer waiting room before I had been taken through I had been eyeing the fishes in a fish tank, and they were frantically swimming around trying to escape my hungry eyes.

My friend had gone to do a bit of shopping and came back to bring me home and as I was quite chirpy we did a bit more shopping on the way home. I have now had a late lunch of ice cream which I remembered I had in the freezer, softened it in the microwave, yummy, and had some jelly, then a cuppa soup and a banana. I have a bit of a sore throat from swallowing the camera, so will probably open a tin of spaghetti tonight.

The prelim report is that I have some polyps, (which can always turn cancerous), and also a hiatus hernia. Phil and his mum both had that, but I hadnt noticed any problems there. Anyway I feel a box of birds, no nasties at present.

Sallie, as Mo says Jennie has a lot to contend with poor girl, hope she doesn't have to go back on the injections.

Mo at least they stopped Lilly throwing up all her lunch so that was good.

Sylvia, your weather is sort of like ours although better if you are getting hot days in between the cold.

Sallie

Sallie Report 14 Jun 2012 20:05

Mo, yes she did have a reaction to the medication that she started with, if you remember it was the one that she had to go into hospital for as a day patient because it could only be given intravenously.

You have got a good memory, wish mine was as good.lol!!

Hello everyone,

Huia, I will be thinking of you tomorrow. In fact I am thinking of you now, and wondering if you are sitting at your computer, or on the loo, bless you love, it's not nice, but a neccessary thing to go through.
<3 <3 <3 <3 for Huia, <3 <3 <3 <3

Ann, have a lovely holiday. I hope that the forcasters have got their predictions wrong this time, and that you get at least dry weather. You can wrap up against the cold, but when you get wet, the chill that sets in, goes right through to the bones.
Stay safe and warm honey, speak to you when you get back, just in case you cant get wifi connection.

Sallie, poor Jennie has been through the wars over the years hasn't she. I pray that they can sort her out quickly.
If I remember rightly, didn't she have a reaction to the injections before, or was that a medication they put her on.
No news yet for J, this is getting beyond a joke. He had to come home early from work yesterday, because he was getting pains again.
And Lilly, well......she started nursery properly today. They gave her her lunch, and she started to retch and bring her food up. They managed to stop her fortunately, but not happy with that, she thought she would like to try and eat the play sand, and nearly choked herself on that.
I cant believe that someone was not watching her properly, knowing that it was her first full day, and that she had never seen sand before, let alone felt what it was like.
I dont suppose she will ever like sherbert after this event. lol ;-)
Her mum was supposed to be ringing the hospital this afternoon, to see if the doctor had looked at her results, but she has not phoned me, so I don't know whats happening yet. I will let you know as soon as I know Sallie.

I do hope our Jean is o.k. It's not like her not to pop in and see us is it.
(((((((((((((((((HUGS JEAN)))))))))))))) xxx

Sending love to Caz as well, hoping that she is bearing up. <3

Got to go now girls, darts tonight. Take care, love to all, Mo xxx

Sallie Report 14 Jun 2012 19:05

Ann, hope you have a good holiday in the Lakes, let's hope that you get some dry weather.

Mo, just wondering if J has heard anything about his results and also if there is any news about baby Lilly. I hope that things will be sorted out for the both of them very soon.

Caz, hope you are feeling a bit better. Thinking of you.

Sylvia, sorry to hear that you have had another break in at the cabin.
I expect you are looking forward to having your family stay and spending some time with them all, especially MJ.

Huia, hope all goes well with the colonoscopy and gastroscopy. Will be thinking about you.

Jennie seen the Consultant yesterday, she has to have a MRI scan to find out if the the small ulcer she has st the very top of her leg is deffinitely an ulcer or a fistula, it depends on how far back it goes and if it goes into the bowel. She also has to have another colonoscopy, she hasn't had one for three years so the Consultant wants to check to see how things are. She may have to go back on the treatment that she had in the past, the one where she has to inject herself in the top of her leg.....she's not too keen on that.

Jean I hope that you are not poorly and that the family are all alright.

Will speak to you all again soon.

Take care.

Love, Sallie.xxx

Huia, thinking of you, it must be quite unpleasant.

In between working through my pre=holiday to do list and packing I am on here briefly. I was just thinking that I have not seen Jean lately. I did have an e mail from her a few days ago when she had been unwell so hope she is not missing because she is ill. <3 <3 Jean.

We go to the Lkes tomorrow morning, will have my laptop but probably only on line while at daughters apartment which has internet access, otherwise I have to trek down to the centre of the timeshare estate to use the Wifi there the rest of the week so may not be on line then.

Hi, Sylvia. If they wont let me home without a responsible adult they will have to keep me in overnight, but I dont know if they have enough beds! My sister had said a week ago that her OH could always drive me if need be, so if my neighbour cant do it I will try to get him, but it will mean coming all the way from North Shore to drive me home to the south of Middlemore. Anyway, I will see what happens tomorrow. In the meantime I am trying to get through 1 litre of electrolyte. It is supposed to take about 1 hour to drink it, but I have added a bit of fruit juice to improve the taste (slightly) and have been working on drinking it for the last 2 hours and am only about half way through it. I do have frequent breaks to dash down the passage!

Mo ...... do hope they manage to work out what is wrong with Lilly. It must be so worrying for you all. xxx

Huia ........... OH has had to have that test done several times. But over here, he is not allowed to leave the hospital afterwards unless he is with a "responsible" adult ........ ie, me :-S

A taxi driver doesn't count ;-)

so you may want to check whether your neighbour can pick you up

that is, of course, if you see this before you leave home!

Good luck <3 <3

Mo, I hope they can find out what Lilly's problem is, it must be very worrying for you all.

Glad your car passed as well.

Huia Report 13 Jun 2012 21:44

Good morning from me. Well, at least the sun is shining again today. I am on a No Solid food, no milk products day today, with laxatives to take this afternoon, and the electrolyte. Tomorrow morning I have to be in hospital at 7.30 a.m. for a gastroscopy and colonoscopy. My neighbour is going to drive me in, leaving at 6.00 in case we get stuck in the morning rush hour, so I will have to be up at 5.30 or earlier, but I dont know if I will get much sleep in the night anyway, after the laxatives!

I am not allowed to drive for 24 hours afterwards because of the sedatives, but I am planning to get train back to Papakura and taxi the rest of the way, or taxi all the way, unless my neighbour insists on coming to pick me up, but she is such a busy lady helping other people.

I will probably be playing on here or FB all day, although I have to drink a glass of fluid every hour and when I start on the laxatives, I expect I will be dashing down the passage frequently. Pity I dont have a laptop, I could spen the whole day in the small room. :-|

Hooray Ann, our car passed as well. Thank goodness for that, it's such a relief isn't it.

I am absolutely worn out tonight. We had baby Lilly for the day, and even though she was very good, she projectile vomitted all her lunch up, yet again, and then did the same with her dinner this evening.
At the moment my son and his OH are at the hospital with her. They have been rushed through to the paediatrics ward, and are waiting for a scan.
When they went to A+E they insisted on seeing the hospital administrator, as they are fed up of being fobbed off every time they take baby to the hospital.
They triage nurse looked at Lilly's blood results, and sent them straight up to the ward.
Hopefully now it may get sorted out at long last.
Liz, if you are looking in, I told them of your suggestion of what may be wrong, and they are going to ask questions about it, and chase it up just in case.
I will let you know how they get on tomorrow, when hopefully we may have a result.

Night Night god bless, love to you all. Mo xxx

Mo in Kent Report 12 Jun 2012 13:59

Good afternoon girls,

My word Sylvia, that cabin is becoming the bane of your lives isn't it love.
Perhaps you should have written both your names on the welly boots, or put the words left and right on them, so that if anyone is seen wearing them, the mounties would know they belonged to you. lol
How pathetic and desperate must someone need to be, to steal the boots and an old paint spotted shirt.
They may have got money for the other objects, but the shirt and boots would only be handy for someone who is without their own clothing.
As you said, " Get rid as soon as possible" to save the heartbreak every time you go up there love.
My lord, how lucky were the people that got out of that plane alive. How the devil did the pilot misjudge the overhead wires like that.

Ann, I also couldn't get on to this site yesterday, and it was only by seeing your message that I realised why.
I have read what GR said on FB, about the difficulties that arose.
Poor T, fancy playing golf in all that rain....but then thats men for you, we woman would have thought to ourselves, no way am I going out on that fairway in the rain, and stayed in the clubhouse having a nice warm cuppa, or a drinkie poo. lol

We got soaked going to see the physio therapist this morning, but it was worth it.
She did all the checks on me, and I am fine. So if the headaches come back with avengance, I will see my doctor.
It's been wonderful today, not waking up with a headache that lasts all day.

It's still chucking it down with rain at the moment, and poor Roly had had to take our car down for it's MOT, fingers crossed it passes.
Will pop back later to see if anyone has been on to see us.
Bye for now, love to you all. Mo xxx

SylviaInCanada Report 12 Jun 2012 05:23

Hi Mo

and everyone

We got back quite late on Sunday evening

not a very good weekend ...............................

pouring rain on Thursday ..... hate driving the freeway when it's doing that!

showers and COLD on Friday and Saturday

Then ............. lovely and sunny on Sunday driving home ............ so had to dig to the bottom of one of the bags to find the sun lotion!

The cabin had been broken into again, as it was this time last year ................. and, like last year, it was probably in the last couple of weeks. Once again doors were left wide open, but there was no sign of water damage OR of animal visits (ie, no droppings, or such things).

They took a variety of things, ranging from the old but great gas-powered lawn mower to 2 pairs of Wellington boots to long-handled garden spade and 2 rakes, but the piece de resistance was the one very old work shirt that was paint splattered and needing a wash (or disposal).

They missed the under-the-bed storage drawer that had OH's tools such as the Maul, Machete, 2 axes, (all good quality), the radio and the coffee thermos.

We've now changed our plans of "selling some time", to "get rid as soon as possible".

We spent Saturday packing the car with as much stuff as we could.

This morning (ie, Monday), OH had to phone the RCMP station in the town near the cabin to report the theft

We stopped by the station on Friday to report it ................. to find a notice on the door ................

It closes at 4 pm on Friday, and is closed on Saturday and Sunday.

There was a phone number to use if you NEEDED to speak to a constable .................................

.............. we decided that we did not NEED to speak to a policeman to report a burglary when we could only say "between August last year and June this year" (even though our suspicions are sometime in the last 2 weeks).

so he had got to phone and report it!

This evening, he went out, and I got to talk to a very nice sounding Mountie
:-D :-D

We have to fax a list of what went missing, it will be circulated to members of the detachment in case they come across stolen property ............ none of it was very expensive. No-one leaves "good" things in cabins ............... but OH does like good tools, so they are probably the most valuable.

It will go into the annual report, and allows them to keep tabs on activity in "cabin country".

I think it was probably "kids" in their late teens/early 20s.

On Saturday, we drove back from the cabin into the nearest small town about 45 minutes too late to see a small Cessna plane take off from the airport, try to go under the overhead wires at the edge of the main road, but hit the telephone wires then a huge restaurant sign on the other side of the road, turn upside down, and slide across the parking lot until it hit a building.

All 3 people walked away with very minor injuries .............

......................... but it was the talk of the town!!!

Google "100 Mile House plane crash" if you want to see more

what a weekend!!!
