Thanks Joyce, I have PMd you. We are sad to lose our friend but she will always be remembered by us as will Deanna and Daff (what a trio they will make). But it would be selfish of us to want to have prolonged Caz's life for our own benefits as we wouldn't want her to suffer any more. I have never know anyone suffer as much pain and still come back smiling as Caz did. God Bless her, now she is at rest.

Probably they didn't know at the time of prescribing Mo, it looks like a recent study.

Good grief Ann, thats shocking news.
Fortunately, my doctor changed me over to 20 mg atorvastatin, and I am not on Calcium blockers.
It's surprising how many general practitioners, prescribe medication to patients, and yet know nothing about the side effects.
Thanks for the information though Ann, it's an eye opener. Mo

AnninGlos Report 2 Nov 2012 17:46

Mo have you seen this today? This is an excerpt from the D Exp.

Most experts still agree that the benefits of taking them far outweigh any risks.

But now studies have shown that patients taking simvastatin, particularly at a 40mg dose which is the most commonly prescribed daily amount, suffered more problems if they were also taking the drugs amlodipine and diltiazem.

These are used to treat high blood pressure and chest pain associated with heart disease and they are often prescribed with simvastatin.

The side-effects are those usually associated with statins, including muscle problems such as pain, tenderness, weakness and cramps and more rarely muscle breakdown leading to kidney damage.

These were found to occur more frequently when patients were on both drugs at the same time. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has produced a patient leaflet with the dose recommendation changes.

But patients already taking the drug combination are being advised not to stop their medication but talk to their doctor instead.

The advice suggests that doctors can lower the simvastatin dose because the side-effects are less common on a 20mg dose, or switch them to another statin entirely. An MHRA spokesman said: “We have recently published information on dosing recommendations for simvastatin which were updated due to a small risk of an increase in side-effects when it is used at higher doses in conjunction with amlodipine or diltiazem.

“We have advised that patients continue their treatment and discuss this with their doctor at their next routine appointment”

Judy O’Sullivan, senior cardiac nurse at the British Heart Foundation said: “We know that side-effects with this drug are dose-related – the higher the dose, the greater the risk of developing muscle pain.

“Because calcium channel blockers slow down the rate at which simvastatin is broken down, the drug levels in the blood stream can be higher.

“Patients taking both simvastatin and a calcium channel blocker should discuss their dose with their GP at their next visit.”

So good job you've had your dose cut, although I don't know if you are on a calcium blocker as well as the statin. :-)
I am on 20mg luckily as I also take amlodopine.

Huia, I have looked on FB, and I cant see the photo's. I can see the photo of baby, and have commented on it, but thats all I can see love. I know you have my E.Mail addy, but just cant understand why I cant see them on F.B.

Thank goodness the news on Caz is a little better than expected. I know she has a long way to go, but she is in my thoughts and prayers.
I hope that Philip is getting as much support and help from friends and family, it must be so hard for him, bless him.

Joyce, in answer to your p.m. Could we please wait a little while before doing what you request till recovery is further on for our dear friend.
At least that way our friend should be home, and able to enjoy what you asked. They are not allowed in hospitals anymore. It's to do with health and hygiene I believe.

Ann, I hope that Barratts open here again as well. You could always find what you wanted in their shops. Not everyone wants high wedge heeled shoes ,that are the fashion with youngsters these days. Many of us have been there, done that, and bought those shoes many moons ago. We go for comfort and fit nowadays, not height of heels or being fashionable. LOL
Your photo's were beautiful Ann.
You should see them girls, they are stunning, and the colours well, there is no describing them.

Take care girls, love Mo xxx

AnninGlos Report 31 Oct 2012 09:16

Jean I wonder whyy Huia's photos got through to you and mine didn't.

Mo, apparently Barratts are opening again in Gloucester.

Glad you enjoyed my day out. Have you managed to see the photos on facebook?

Huia

Huia Report 31 Oct 2012 07:41

Jean and Sallie, I have emailed 3 lots of my son's photos to you. I just hope your email addies have not changed since I last used them. Luckily for me my son had downsized the photos so they didnt take too long to load. There are still quite a few more to come though. I will do it tomorrow, I hope.

JustJean Report 30 Oct 2012 20:44

Mo, there is no new update about Caz yet, Philip rings Dutch with any news,
I decided he will have enough problems without me ringing so dutch will let me/us know as soon as she hears any thing different other than that Caz is in a critical condition, she managed to give a little smile when her family came to see her..My prayer is that she has no pain. and is at peace, she has struggled with so much over the years, she deserves to rest quietly and with dignity,
doesnt stop the heartache though.....

Mo in Kent Report 30 Oct 2012 18:58

Cooeee my lovelies,
Ann, I was transported to a lovely day out reading your post.
It's been awful here again, so it was uplifting to read of your exploits.
We went to lots of different shoe shops looking for a pair of fur lined boots, for me.
My most comfy pair had given up the ghost on me. The fur lining had worn thin around the ankle, and the piece underneath had rubbed my ankle raw.
My favourites had been bought at Barratts many years ago, but they are now closed down. I am thinking of having a bonfire, and cremating them, aahh poor little boots.
I ended up in BHS, where I bought a pair very similar to ugg boots. Because the lining is so thick, I had to get a size larger, and all I am hoping now ia that when the lining settles, it doesn't make the boots to big for me. Still I suppose I will have to wear extra pairs of socks if that happens. lol ;-)

Sylvia, I wasn't aware of the things occurring over there. Good grief another type of earth quake.
No wonder you hadn't noticed it, I bet you were both well involved in Le Boheme.

All I had heard off was what was happening in the USA. And that has been such a disaster hasn't it. Is it true that you will be getting a battering from it as well ?
If so, batten down the hatches now, we dont want you blown away.

Jean, is there any news on Caz yet my love?

Take care my friends, love and hugs Mo xxx
