At least you, like, me know where you are with basal cell, just a blessed nuisance aren't they. It seems every time I have one removed I find another one. And noy all are where they have been exposed to the sun which is why I don't let it stop me going on holiday to the sun. I do though wear factor 30 to 50 sun cream

I have my flu jab in 2 weeks ................ don't like the thought of a blunt needle!!!


Gosh, what are you lot like?? Scrumping apples!!!


OH saw the doctor this morning .........

.......... yes, it was basal cell carcinoma.

BUT we already knew that was the problem with the tips of his ears and also on both cheeks near his ears. So, nothing different.

All the doc said, was talk to the dermatologist when you next see him ........... which is next February!

Basal cell carcinoma is the least worrying of cancers .............. usually doesn't penetrate below the basal layer of the skin (hence the name). All skin areas just have to be watched carefully


I changed the dressing on my leg this morning ............ it looks OK, and I now just have an ordinary plaster on it.


We have heavy fog again today .................... yesterday it burnt off about noon, and we had 3 or 4 hours of sun before the fog came back in.

That is also supposed to happen today, but I'm not sure ............... it's almost 1 pm and no sign of it lifting.

The airport is still operating though


OH's sister was supposed to fly down to Vancouver this morning, then transfer almost immediately to a flight to Whitehorse ..........

.......... she is still stuck in her home town as they have heavy fog / low ceiling up there. She has been re-booked onto an evening flight to Whitehorse ............. if she can get to Vancouver!!

She phoned to ask if she could spend the afternoon with us ..................... but I'm beginning to wonder whether we should make up the bed in the study :-) :-)


Her daughter says, just wait until "Mum" phones you from the airport for pick-up!

Oooh Ann, you and T scrumping for apples, you naughty things. lol When we first got married, and I fell pregnant with our eldest daughter, we lived opposite an orchard that grew beautiful apples, and when the fancies took over, we both used to pop over the road after dark, and fill a bag with apples.
Just along the road, in a greenhouse grew peaches,and once again, when the fancies for peaches started, we would go over and help ourselves.
We thought ourselves so clever, until our next door neighbours, who were friends of ours, said that the people next door on the other side owned the greenhouse, and had watched us scrumping for their peaches.....red faces all round for us two, and we didnt do it after that.
It sounds like you had a lovely day at the arboretum. It must have been wonderful seeing the Stag.
Last night whilst on our way to darts, we saw a lovely Fox in the car park. Everyone was afraid it was going to run out into the main road, and straight into the traffic. Fortunately it didn't, but how stupid can some people be, one of our girls tried coaxing it towards her, we said to her that they were not meant to be near humans, and that they were getting very daring coming out where humans were about. Stupid woman, had she not read about foxes attacking people, especially helpless babies.

Well I hope everyone has a nice weekend. We have got Lilly tomorrow for four hours, so by 4 p.m we will be exhausted. :-D :-D :-D

I can't believe we were on page 4.

Just had our flu jabs. I think my nurse must have had a blunt needle ouch, it hurt this year and is still aching now.

Our day out yesterday.

Yesterday (17th). We set out at 0930 and drove in sunshine across the Cotswolds, we drove across to Stowe, taking the old road above The Slaughters. The views all the way were glorious. We were heading for Batsford Arboretum and we arrived there around 10.30, I didn’t check the time. We had a coffee in their restaurant – which is not cheap. We were amazed that a scone that cost us £1.75 in places round here cost £2.75, so we went without. We spent about an hour and a half walking round the arboretum, the sun went in just after we got there but it was still bright and we took lots of photos. Some of the trees have yet to turn but some of them were glorious. Like an Acer which was a florescent pink in places.

Although there were two coaches in, it wasn’t crowded as people spread out. We usually don’t cover the whole arboretum this time of year as we know where the colour is. A bonus was spotting a magnificent Stag in the field next door, although he was too far away to photograph. I was looking out for the deer because I think it is the rutting season.

We also saw some strange fungi, they looked like a lot of pancakes all lying overlapping..

After we had walked enough we drove off towards Evesham, another lovely drive across first the Cotswolds and then Worcestershire. We went to The Country Park where there is a big garden centre where they do a pensioners lunch. (£7.95 for two courses), I had beef goulash followed by sticky toffee pudding – Tony had apple crumble.

While we were there we walked round the edge of the country park. This was all built on apple orchards and in the hedgerows there are plum trees and apple trees. The plums had all gone but we got a bag full of coxes apples, mostly small but all ripe and a couple of larger ones. It was quite strange though because, although the trees have gone wild and are not commercially viable or picked, I still felt guilty picking them. T said it was my first experience of scrumping. (But not his!!!)

It was a lovely day out though, we really enjoyed it.

Oh Ann, poor T, and here we are laughing at his maybe losing his teeth soon.
Tomorrow you will feel like a new woman, after your visit to the chiropodist, lovely smooth tootsies, and nails nice and short. It's a pity they cant give some sort of pain relief before they tend to your feet, as they do at the dentists, it would make the visit more enjoyable wouldn't it. Mind you, you would probably fall over afterwards, if they did anaethestise the tootsies before they had to be been done...der stupid me. lol ;-) ;-) ;-) oooh I can just visualise it, as you can imagine, my mind is going into overdrive.
I hope it's a nice day for your visit to the Arboretum, as I have said before, our local Arboretum is wonderful at this time of year.

I am hoping it will be milder tomorrow, as we have got the plumber coming to install a new radiator in the lounge, and bathroom.
If it's chilly I shall have to put my coat on to keep myself warm. At the moment, for some reason I feel the cold quicker than any other year, it's got to be my age. lol

Mo, Ooh I didn't see any comments by James prior to the show, what did I miss? Yes I think Hairy Biker should go but people are perverse and will probably keep him in.

I too find Turkey a bit dry, I'd rather have chicken really and if Turkey I prefer the leg meat. We are going to son's this year and they only ever get a crown so I shall have to eat what I am given.

Thursday we are hoping it will be sunny like today and not wet like yesterday as we want to go to Westonburt Arboretum to see the autumn colours. Today T had a dental appointment (check up) and then we had the joys of Tesco. As usual he was much cheered up by being told that his teeth will most likely fall out before too long :-D

Tomorrow I have the chiropodist, I don't like that much as my toe nails are horrible and quite painful when he does them, but it doesn't last long and is marginally better than the dentist. Then next week is hospital :-)

Managed to get the last of the bits for Luke this morning. We will give them money for him but wanted to get a few bits, so have some clothes and a bath toy, an all singing all dancing one by all accounts.

A happy thanks giving day Sylvia. I do hope your OH made the sausage meat stuffing, I love it, especially made with sage and onion added, it's yummy. Thats one of the only meats that I really enjoy at christmas, turkey can be very dry can't it, thats why we tend to have Gammon and also a nice piece of Lamb instead.
Sorry to hear that OH's ear is still weeping. Unfortunately, when we go to sleep, we tend to rub our ears on the pillows don't we, and no doubt this is probably what is making it weep even more. Poor chap, you can't exactly make him sleep sitting up can you, lol
Anyway my love, enjoy your special day.

Ann, I do agree about Vanessa, but James did say things in the paper prior to the show being aired, and I think maybe it went against him with the judges.
Unless some miracle happens, I think the hairy biker will be out this week, or he will be up against the fashion designer, I really can't remember his name, but he has been in the dance off, for the last two weeks, but Saturday night he danced his socks off and got through.
Some of the girls are excellent, and maybe two or three of the men stand a chance, of getting somewhere.
Has T been out on the golf course recently? My friends son, has gone on a weeks golfing holiday today, he and his friends got fed up off not being able to get a game here, so booked up last minute and they flew out this morning. Lucky lad, getting away from this weather.

Hi Mo, and eveyone


we're having some lovely Fall weather ............. sunny and cblue skies, but temperatures in the low teens, and getting down to 6 or 7C at night.

We've also had some cloudy periods, and a little rain ............. but nothing like the terrible we had while daughter was here!


Ann ............. I've also had punch biopsies before. The first one proved to be a basal cell, but luckily the young doctor who did it took a large enough "punch" sample that she'd taken it all and there was a sufficient margin that I didn't need anything else to be done.

the others all proved to be benign.

Not sure about this one on my shin. There isn't much "meat" between the skin and the bone in that area!


OH's ear is still weeping, so we have it slathered with an ointment called Polysporin ............. it contains 3 different antibiotics plus an anaesthetic, and is what the doctors use



Tomorrow is Canadian Thanksgiving ........... we're not going anywhere or having anyone in, so there will just be the of us.

To be honest ......... we're glad to be on our own, and not rushing off or rushing around for people coming here. We've been so busy recently!

OH picked up a turkey breast from the butcher yesterday, he will roast that. I'll make sage and onion stuffing. He MIGHT make sausage meat stuffing.

We'll also have all the usual fixings, plus a sweet potato casserole that I love.

Thank you for the explanation Ann. I hope you have had a good day, and hopefully drier than it's been here. We had torrential rain this morning, and it stayed that way till about 2.30 p.m.
Oh dear Vanessa and James have just come bottom on Strictly, poor James like Anton always seem to get partners who have no idea how to dance. How the hairy biker is still in, I do not know, I suppose he got the sympathy vote.

Mo I have had two or three punch biopsies on my rodent ulcers, they take a small punch piece ( like a paper punch I guess) a small piece in diameter but fairly deep to see if there is anything below the surface.

Oh darn it, I missed saying cheerio to Jean and J, but I do hope they have a lovely break away, whatever the weather may bring.

Sylvia, I have never heard of the "Punch Biopsy" on what you call a "thingy on your shin", but whatever it is, and however they do it, I hope it turns out o.k for you.
Your weather sounds lovely at the moment, after all the rain we had yesterday, it was a pleasure to have just a dry day today,but....we are due another deluge tomorrow, so by Monday my web feet will be well used to it. lol

Hello there Ann, I think this is only about the second time I have spoken to you, since your return from your holiday, sorry about that my love.
Yes it will be lovely to have another baby around the house. Our Lilly does not seem to be a baby any longer to us, mind you, she will be three in January, but she is still our youngest grandchild.
We had a visit today from our youngest G.Grandaughter. She has the most gorgeous smlie, it could melt ice, and she is a beautiful baby all round.

I hope our Sallie,Marie and Huia are well.

Sylvia, the proper name for Rodent ulcers is basal call carcinoma. they are cancerous but rarely, if ever spread to other parts of the body. I had two scrapes done this year, not painful when done but sore while healing and one took a long time to heal.

Morning all, we are off in a little while for a weeks break ,so Mo you had better keep them all in order, lovely news about the new baby.... we had our littlie here last weekend , he is all over the place and full of it..... all the ornaments near the floor have to be moved , his best fun is ripping paper up and then trying to eat it !! so D has got a silver fire blanket that rustles and shimmers and safe . he will love it....

Sylvia, I dont think we will be getting sunshine next week but as long as there is no rain and high winds I dont really care, hope all goes well with the op and that all is clear...


I too have wondered how Marie has got on , hope she is settled in and enjoying her new home....

Mo ........ what great news!!! I'm sure Lilly will be delighted.


No, they won't do a biopsy on the "scrapings" ............. it is pre-cancerous, but they tend to take these things off before they develop.

I think what OH had done is what Ann of Gloucester talks about being done to her "rodent ulcers", though we don't have anything called that here. They sound very similar!



I was at the docs today ......... it seems that they are happy to leave my bp medications as they are at the moment, my "poo" test was OK, but they want to do a punch biopsy on a thingy on my shin, "just to be sure" :-(. So I have to go again next week to have that done :-( :-( :-(


The weather is quite beautiful here ..................... it has been really sunny for the last 3 days, cool (ca 10-15C in the daytime), and getting down to around 6 or 7C overnight.

I have 2 Jade plants that spend the summer out on my sundeck, but they spend the colder months on a large windowsill in the basement. I had OH bring them in late on Wednesday night when I realised it might get as low as 5C. I hope I hadn't left them out there too late in the month!



It is Canadian Thanksgiving on Monday ................ we will be just the 2 of us this year, but have ordered a turkey breast from the butcher.

What a lovely turn out for your friends laying to rest, his wife must have been so proud.
It will be nice for her to have your company over the christmas period, thats one of the occasions when it is hardest for those left behind.
Bless your OH, I hope the ear has stopped bleeding now. Are they doing a biopsy on it.
Oh listen to me, I seem to think that hospitals do biopsy's on everything these days, but then it's better to be safe than sorry isn't it.
My goodness it's so cold here today, the wind has been blowing a gale. The temperature was 9 celcius when we went shopping this morning, but it has dropped drastically now.

I must tell you my good news....we are going to be grandparents again in May. Little Lilly will have a new baby joining her in the family.
Our son was a bit nervous about telling us, fearing what we would say, knowing that he has two children from his first marriage.
DIL swore she would never ever have another child, following Lilly's birth. lol we all know how quickly we forget the pain that accompanies child birth don't we.
It looks like our christmases are starting to get expensive yet again. When our eldest grandchildren grew up, we thought the cost would reduce, but hey no it won't. lol

Well, it's good news that things are finally moving fast for your friend, Mo!! If only that had happened weeks ago.


Sis-i-l's husband died back around 1987, cancer, when their eldest child was 12. She raised them, and they have all turned out very well, and have done very well for themselves.


I think you may be thinking of our best friend who died recently ......................

Today (Tuesday) was the "putting to rest" of that friend who died a couple of months ago

ie, burying the urn containing his ashes.

It has taken time to organise, because the widow wanted them to go into the ground in the Garden where we all worked.

It went really well. The weather was beautiful and sunny. The spot chosen was in a quiet but accessible area, and everything was ready to pop the container into the ground. There were 6 of us, plus the Director and Assistant Director, and we all took turns in putting some soil back into the ground.

A few tears by the widow, but I think she is doing as well as can be expected.


We are going to stay with her for Christmas, and hope to also get over there in the next 4 or 5 weeks, just for a couple of days.

One of the long time friends, who had moved up north 35 years ago, arrived rather unexpectedly this weekend, so he was able to attend.


I'm very tired now!


OH had to see the dermatologist in the morning before the putting to rest ................. and ended up having whatever-it-is on the tip of his ear scraped off :-(

By dinner time, I noticed red marks on his shirt and cardi :-0

so now we're trying to stem the seeping flow.

It should scab over in 2 or 3 days.

He SAYS it did not and does not hurt :-(

Hello Sylvia,
It's nice to hear you had a lovely visit from your daughter and little man. But it is sad news about your SIL. Her choosing the chemo was a must really, she has to do the best to extend her life...well thats my way of thinking. And going away whilst she is still feeling up to it, is wonderful. So sad for you and your OH though. Is it the sister that lost her husband not so long ago ?
Is there any news on the sale of your Cabin yet Sylvia.
Thank you for your good wishes for my friend Florence. She had her biopsy done yesterday, and they removed some of the growth so that she could breathe a little easier.
Saturday she goes for a Cat Scan, and on Monday for her MRI, and she has to have blood tests sent to both departments, goodness knows why as they are treating her for one thing, surely they only need one lot of bloods. Oh well what do I know.
They want to get her back in within three weeks, to remove the remainder of the growth.

I haven't read back, so I hope I haven't missed anything important.

Except .............. I just saw that Mo's friend is going for a biopsy. I do hope all goes well for her, and that she now gets fast treatment.


to bring you up to date ...........


we had a great week with daughter and grandson. Everyone was really relaxed, and enjoyed the visit. Daughter was more relaxed because she was not worrying about any effects people might be having on her husband!

They left on Friday evening, and we are back to as much like normal as we ever are!!

it was great to have them, and we did some interesting things with the tiddley!


OH's sis-i-l is not in good form ...........................

her trip down here showed that she does have metastazied (??sp) colon cancer into some lymph nodes.

Treatment .................... can only be chemo. because the nodes are too close to important organs for radiation.

Her choice was .........

....... no treatment and about 1 year to live

....... chemo and an expected life span of 2-3 years, or possibly to 6 years.

She has opted for chemo ..................... but is not starting that for about 5 weeks, to give her time to do some things she's always wanted to do ............... including an all-girls visit to Hawaii with some friends!!

She currently feels very well, and is trying to enjoy life while she can. She was told that it would make no difference if she left starting chemo for 2-3 months.

I am only posting this on "my" threads, so please no-one start any "be sorry for Sylvia" threads!

Hi Mo, I am happy with the Kindle, although it's going to take some time to get use to it......probably six months, as you said.lolol!! I still have a book to finish before I start to use the Kindle, I don't like to start another book until I have finished the one I am reading.


I will be thinking about your friend Florence on Monday and hope they will be able to do something to help her as soon as they can.


Alun and I went to Derby this morning, as we didn't want very much there we decided to get some more Xmas presents, so managed to get a few more. On the way back to the bus station we called in a shop selling Yankee Candles, both Christie and my niece love having them....only problem was that after I had opened one of the jars to know what it smelt like, I hadn't put the top back on securely so it ended up smashed to bits on the floor......oooooh! I felt awful about it. We offered to pay for it but the girls working there were very nice and said there was no need.
Apparently, they were saying that lately it has happened on a daily basis. We bought two jars that they have brought out for Christmas
.

I haveonly made a few easy Christmas cards today, haven't had time to do anymore. Hopefully I will have more time tomorrow.
