MANCHESTER OFFICERS IDENTIFIED ARMED W ACCOUTRMENTS Item number: 280331383466

A CDV photograph album containing 24 photographs of commissioned officers of the British Rifle Volunteers. The officers are in dress uniform, armed with their swords and accouterments. Each soldiers name, as well as a date (mostly 1860) is written on the reverse of each photograph in period ink. Most or all also show the photographers maker mark "R. Knott Chemist & Photographer Blackburn Road Little Bolton". There were several units in Manchester and Lancashire during this period so it is likely that the men are enlisted with one of them. An inscription on the inside cover of the book reads "Rifles Volunteer Bazaar 1862. To Lieut Col Heswith ? with Frank Francis Comps Sep 14, 1891. The Volunteer Rifles went on to fight in the 2nd Boer war as well as in WWI WWII and to the present date. The date 1860 shows the original Rifles as they were in the begining. Condition: The album needs rebinding, the images are in overall excellent condition, sharp and contrasted. Please see my scans for an accurate representation of the item
