Morning Patrica
maybe you will need to turn your day & night routine around Patrica, shop and do your house work through the night. and sleep through the day,lol

Mind you I don't think my OH would go shopping if he couldn't get to sleep , probably spend the time in the garage fiddling with his bike or watch cycling on the sports channel. I don't drive so I couldn't go to the shops myself.

another sleepless night ,O.H. decided he'd be as well getting up as I''d disturbed him too much for him to get back to sleep. So 1.30 this morning saw us doing our shopping in a local 24 hour supermarket. The shop was quiet(as you'd expect) and it was a much calmer experience than usual.Only downside O.H. seemed to revisit his childhood and I came home with bags full of things I didn't want or need add to that my bill was about twice the normal size and it took me 3/4 an hour to unpack it all and put it away and I 'm not sure if it's something well ever repeat. Upside was after I went back to bed I slept for a full 8 hours!!

When I was on Maternity in 1953, we had to clean babies with Arachis oil, which is derived from peanuts. I often wonder now how much damage we did, with so many people allergic to peanuts.

Afternoon all
I'm like you Jane, I Stand on bottom shelves to get things off the top. I have to ask who ever is in the kitchen to reach the top shelves of my cupboards as we still have the old kitchen we had when we moved in.and the last owners who lived in the house were tall people, the man was 6 foot he was policeman and the cupboards reach the ceiling, my SIL in 6 foot 2 and it's great at christmas time when he's around to put up the decorations on the top of the christmas tree.

I remember getting a right rollicking for letting my daughter sleep for more than 4 hours without feeding her.I think it was nearly 6 hours, but I was exhausted and baby asleep so I couldn't see a problem. My son wanted a feed ALL THE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.I was so sore just after a day lol
As for dummies,my daughter had one ,son refused. One day when my daughter was 3 she just said I don't want a dummy anymore and put it in the bin.End of !!!!

Hi Fiona, the olive oil is interesting, when my sister was born prematurely 65 years ago mum wasn't allowed to wash her in water but had only to wipe her down with cotton wool soaked in olive oil, her cot was also lined in cotton wool.Anyway she always had the most beautiful skin ,no teenage spots ,always clear and smooth.Mum always said it was the olive oil that did it,you never know maybe thats why Italians have such good skin.

Fiona Report 13 Sep 2009 14:22

Exactly AB,
daughter has her MIL staying with her for the next 4 weeks,(God help her) they do things differently over in Italy to us, they use Olive oil on the baby's bottom, what!!! she was going to use the oil that SIL cooks with.
so I said to daughter Sudocrem, got black looks of MIL, this is where the problem of not being able to speak each others lanuage. but community midwife said Sudocreme(not sure of spelling) too. so that was the first hitch. MIL says put baby sleeping on side, I kept out of this one, midwife Say's on the back. I now have learned to keep my thoughts to myself and we only visit daughter when we are needed, which happens to be for a hour or two each day at the moment, we don't want to over stay.
will be ok when things are back to normal.

AB I have sent you some photo's let me know if you don't get them.

Fiona Report 13 Sep 2009 13:08

Hi All
Your right AB, there's too many people giving different opinions, there was three different midwifes in the hospital telling daughter what to do, feed her every four hours, other one- feed on demand, yes wake her up to feed, daughter said she felt like a milking machine, had to get her breast cream yesterday she was so sore. but the feeding is now coming along ok and mum & baby are more settled and both are sleeping better.
they left the hospital on Friday about 4 and daughter said she was glad to get back home she felt claustrophobic in the hospital. and needed to get some air, also hadn't had any sleep so was exhausted.

oh!!!! Patrica it's a wonderfull feeling having a little grandaughter , I hope it won't be long for you now this waiting drives you mad. keeping fingers crossed that all goes well for the happy couple.

My daughter was in the hospital from Monday 7th at midnight till friday 11th was in longer than some mums because of having lost so much blood,

Hi Jane ,I never really felt I had a hard time ,was only grateful that I got 2 great kids and now will have 3 little ones ,baby was due last Sunday and son is like a cat on hot bricks although they're only young they've had everything organised for ages and are desperate to meet the baby .21 wouldn't have been thought of as young when I had mine but nowadays people get married much later after they've got house ,car, good holidays etc. all sorted .We know it's a girl so lots of pink things and frills ,he's even put a pink sticker on the back of his car which says "powered by fairy dust" If the scan was wrong we could have a problem

Morning Ladies.
Another baby on the way,we will all be on tenderhooks again. When is the baby due Patricia?
I'm sorry that your daughter only lived for 4 days and then all those miscarriages. You did have a tough time.
My daughter is closer to her dad and my son closer to me .I don't know if they would say that but it's how I see it.
My sister and her children are extremely close. Her daughter 30 and grandson visit everyday as does her son 25.Her youngest son 18 is just about to embark on 10 months travelling. He goes on thursday and I dread to think what she will be like!!

Hi Jane,Ifelt that way with mine too ,my first daughter only lived for 4 days and I had 6 miscarriages and 10 years between numbers 2 and 3 no. 3 was 11 weeks prem so they were and still are the centre of my world I feel quite emotional to think my baby is going to be a dad in the next few days ,but he will be a great dad as he has a terrific nature.Daughter will be 31 on Monday and she and I see each other every day ,sometimes I wonder if we're too close ,but I wouldn't have it any other way.Fiona, how long did your daughter stay in hospital?

Jane

Jane Report 12 Sep 2009 22:20

I never had to go through the dilation thing.I had both of mine by booked C Section.I had epidurals for both ,so was awake, but felt no pain, just a bit of tugging lol.Quite a strange experience, but seeing the baby just pulled out and held up to see was just amazing and then plopped on me before being taken away to be wiped off and weighed etc.The first time was the most amazing time for me as my daughter was my first blood connection to me.I am adopted so had never had a blood relative. It really hit home when I looked at her and thought she is part of me!!!.I will never forget that feeling,it was probably the biggest emotional thing that has ever happened to me.

Patricia

Patricia Report 11 Sep 2009 20:58

I'd make a guess she's not thinking of a second at the moment.I remember before I had my first 32 years ago ,saying to my Dad that "childbirth was painfree in the late 20th century" and saw him smile and shake his head. After the birth he asked me "so how was this painfree childbirth you were telling me about"After a 36 hour labour you can imagine my reply! Still it didn't stop me from having another 2.We're on the baby countdown now Lisa was 21/2 centimeteres dilated at her appointment yesterday although it doesn't seem to have progressed any since then despite the curry and the long walk by Loch Lomond today.Heres hoping it's soon she's a bit fed up.Fiona waait til she asks you to babysit ,then you'll be a paranoid Granny, everything is done so differently now.

Fiona

Fiona Report 11 Sep 2009 12:15

Hi AB
How did you guess that, because that is exactly what Sofia is doing, NO not really!!
But she does make a lot of squeaks like a little kitten and her mum jumps every time ," is she alright" says daughter, I don't know how many times I have said"she's OK, relax" she has a real loud cry when she's not happy, and is still having great problems with this breast feeding, but it's early days. and do you know it brings back so many memories for me. and the paranoid feelings you get when your a new mum,
pm me your e-mail address and when I get the photo's sorted out I'll e-mail you them.

Fiona

Fiona Report 10 Sep 2009 08:28

Morning .
I've got a chance to say hello now as , I know I won't get a chance later. I'm whacked, mostly mentally. SIL was very good at bringing me home from the hospital last night as OH was away, we were both very tired, daughter is fine , a bit frustrated at not being able to move in the bed as she is very uncomfortable as you imagine, got up yesterday for the first time after having Sofia. took about 15 mins to get out of the bed , poor soul, but was feeling much better after her shower.
Sofia well what can I say, she's beautiful just like her mum but with lots of dark hair (daughter had blond hair)and she has a little dimple in her chin, just like her mum and gran has.
anyway will stop now as I need to get a cup of tea and a shower
Hope everyone OK
