Hi Ladies had a great night with all the little guisers coming to the door ,I had a teletubbie ,sponge bob square pants,a couple of witches assorted ghouls,Evel Kneivel, and a whole lot more.I always make up goody bags in the afternoon so I can enjoy the fun I hang out my Ghost who lights up and makes strange noises and watch the little ones faces either light up with glee or stop at the bottom of the drive and send their mums in for their bags .I love halloween,I hope I never grow out of it.I live at the foot of Loch Lomond though I was born in Glasgow ,been here 42 years so really it's home .It's not the worst place in the world ,in fact on a good day it can be spectacular. Can't imagine ever living anywhere else

Heard it said at least half a dozen times that Halloween is not a "British" custom.I'd like to put the record straight, in this part of Britain and in Ireland Halloween (all hallows eve) has been celebrated for centuries. The day before All Souls day in the catholic church and the month of November being the month of the Holy Souls where they pray for all the people who have died. In Scotland we always called it not trick and treat but guising when you went out in disguise (dressed up) and knocked on neighbours doors ,if they liked your party piece ,song, poem ,story or joke they rewarded you with fruit and nuts rarely sweets and almost never money.Usually you'd be invited to join their parties where you dooked for apples and tried to take a bite from a large scone hanging on a string from the kitchen pulley the scone was liberally covered in treacle If we'd pulled any tricks like they do nowadays we'd have got a clip round the ear, happy days .......

Morning Ladies, gotthe next 5 days free, not in a good way ,S.I.L. and both their little ones have swine flu!! Poor daughter is demented trying to look after them all at once. Still ,looing on the bright side it's all over at one time ,she''s still in plaster so thats a difficulty she could be withou the doctor has advised they isolate themxeves for 6 days, hence my time off.

I went on HRT - didn't want to as heard so many conflicting things about it, but once on I would have killed if anyone tried to take me off. haha. Everything was sorted within a week of taking it.

How nice for your OH Patricia. My OH has only a handful of photos of his family.I think his Dad must have thrown them all out after his wife died and OH's sister ran away.OH doesn't even remember his Mums name or have a Photo. He had a bad childhood and has more or less blocked it out.I feel bad for him as I have thousands of photos .

Patricia Report 28 Oct 2009 18:13

Just received some photographs of my husbands family from a cousin in Australia,we didn't know these photos existed and got quite emotional as they show O.H.s dad when he was about 7years old ,it was the anniversary of his death last week .My mother-in-law never got on with FIL's family and is most reluctant to pass on info as she says she'd rather not have anything to do with them.Something to do with him being passed ove r to a relative after his mother's death and hisdad's remarriage. If I hear her say "Better left in the past" again I'll scream she doesn't seem to understand that the younger generations would like to know where they came from.

Morning ladies, got 2 whole hours to myself as Miss Sophie has joined a playgroup where I just drop her off and collect her .Actually I joined for her.Have had an inordinate amount of mail through G.R. site and have added 4 generations to one side of the family that I had no info on at all also msgs from relations I'd lost touch with years ago .Seems it's like buse s none for ages then 4 in a row lol. Think I might buy one of those lights for S.A.D. feel very down since the clocks changed mind you the weather up here hasn't helped it's grey and wet and miserable.Mood variations another symptom of "the change"?
