I liked Nicholas Cage in City of Angels

Yes I mentioned the Charles Bronson film on the previous page - it was released in the UK as "The Streetfighter" but in the US as "Hard Times".

I'd like to see the remake of "The Taking of Pelham 123", but the original was excellent with Walther Matthau as the cop trying to catch the criminals and Robert Shaw as the main criminal. I see that Denzel Washington put on about 40 pounds to play his part in the film.

Yes Denzil Washington did have to beef up for the film role, but hes lost it now....saw him on Jonathan Ross on friday night..

I saw this film on DVD recently:

" The Dish". Its about the televising of the moon landing in July 1969 and the part that the Australian TV Network played in getting the TV footage sent across the world.

Sam Neill stars. A very good film.

Has anyone seen the original of "Assault on Precinct 13"?
Most of the cast were unknown actors. Violent, tense but
brillantly made.

One for the youngsters, "Finding Nemo". Aahhh! Lovely!

I have just watched an amazing film called The Black Book. it is a dutch film with subtitles (but don't let that put you off) set in WW2 about the Nazi occupation and the Dutch Resistance. It is not for the squeamish or faint hearted, but it is brilliantly done. The director is Paul Verhoeven, who also directed Basic instinct and Robo Cop (not films I would go for).
i needed a bit of light relief after that, what better than Mama Mia!

Well I went for an interview yesterday. Was given visitor pass number 13 and after about 15 minutes the fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate the building. Twenty minutes later we're back in the building and the interview was wrapped up about half an hour later. I came out thinking it went well, but wasn't sure whether it seemed long enough. I had those things going through my mind, did I ask enough questions, were my answers OK, you know the usual things.

Well I must have done something right, as I was called this morning and offered the job! Naturally I said yes (nearly bit the poor woman's hand off if that's possible over the phone). Don't know when I'm starting yet, as I need to fill out a few forms they're sending me and they have to complete their reference checks.

It's a really really interesting role ...

EDIT: Yes Elizabeth, I remember the original Assault on Precinct 13 - love the film, especially the convict called Napoleon Wilson. You never did find out how he got his name. "You got a smoke?" I think was his punch line. Very violent film, written and directed by John Carpenter if I remember rightly.

Funnily enough, back on the film front, we have been watching the Harry Potter films over the last few days or so.

My FIL has the full set which he lent to us on DVD, as my little 'un decided she wanted to watch them. They never appealed to me when they came out, I think it was the hype surrounding the whole series that put me off, but I've actually found them quite enjoyable.

Glad you mentioned the proms and the film themes. I didn';t see it but my cousin watched it...he said the same thing as you! He said "I know it sounds daft Pam but I got very emotional over the film themes" I said it wasn't daft atall as music can have and should have that effect sometimes...sounded like it was wonderful, wish I'd seen it but was working that night i think.

PS. Elizabeth mentions Sam Neil on a post earlier, when the music from Rielly Ace of Spies came on (which he starred in in the late seventies) my dad and me used to fill up to that music!! What an emotional mob we are!!

Windmills of my mind....always makes me feel emotional...havn`t a clue why, think it was from The original Thomas Crown Affair starring Steve McQueen, if I`m wrong someone please put me out of my misery and tell me what film it was

Also Take my Breath away by Berlin from Top Gun, and of course all that haunting Irish music in Titanic {Kate Winslet/Leonardo DeCaprio version}.....

The music to "Reilly, Ace of Spies" was adapted from
"The Gladfly, Romance" by Shostakovich.

I got the 45 record of the TV theme.
Crikey, I am talking about records!

Other fims with emotional music:

1. "Brief Encounter" by Rachmaniov - definitely need kleenex tissues.

2. "Raging Bull", intermezzo from "Cavalleria Rusticanca" by Mascagni. Absolutely tugs at the heart.


3. I have got a copy of the silent film "Blood and Sand" with Ruldolph Valentino, made in 1922. The music makes me practically cry from the beginning.

4. Oh yes, the film "Stand by me" made in 1986. The song of the same name by Ben E King could be re-released every 5 years to new generations and be as popular as when first released in 1961. Outstanding.

Well I actually got to the cinema today.

Just took the girls to see the latest Harry Potter film. Very good special effects but a bit slow in places. Funny, I always wind up talking about the trailers I saw at this point.

One that really sticks in my mind that is coming out is "Dorian Gray", a remake of the 1945 film. I'm quite suprised that they've made another remake, I think a version came out about three of four years ago.

There'a also a pretty good "chick flick" coming out called "The Time Traveller's Wife" about a man who involuntarily travels through time, and the problems it causes with his marriage. The male lead is Eric Bana (Hector in Troy).

I also want to see Quentin Tarantino's latest film, "Inglorious Basterds", about a group of Jewish-American soldiers who are sent into occupied France in WW2 to spread fear amongst the occupying German forces.

BTW, thanks everyone for your support and messages. Can't wait to get back into work.

My most favorite film is
Monsieur Verdoux
It stars charlie Chaplin and in this film he speaks.
He also directed this film.
Its about a man who has an ill wife and a young son and to support them he marries rich woman and kills them for their fortunes.

Just about to watch a good film from the early 90's - The Commitments.

Love the music, love thestory and the lead singer's voice.

Yes Ed... the Commitments with another great singer to come out of Ireland... there have been so many......

U2, Ronan Keating, Westlife...{ yeah I know... but they have got good voices}..... used to love The Boomtown Rats in their day, but I can`t seriously say Bob Geldorf has a good voice, and my very favourite at the moment The Script, they were supporting Take That at Wembley the night I saw them and were absolutely brilliant...... to mention just a few..... us ladies do love an Irish lilt............
